BIBBIA MARTINI	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Alleluia: lodate Dio. Date lode al Signore, perché egli è buono, perché la misericordia di lui o eterna.	1 Al eluia! Give thanks to Yahweh, for he is good, his faithful love is everlasting!
2 Lo dicano quelli, che dal Signore furon redenti, i quali egli riscattò dal dominio dell'inimico, e gli ha raccolti di tra le nazioni.	2 Who can recount al Yahweh's triumphs, who can ful y voice his praise?
3 Dall'oriente, e dall'occidente, da settentrione, e dal mare.	3 How blessed are those who keep to what is just, whose conduct is always upright!
4 Andaron errando per la solitudine, per aridi luoghi, non trovando strada per giungere a una città da abitare.	4 Remember me, Yahweh, in your love for your people. Come near to me with your saving power,
5 Tormentati dalla fame, e dalla sete, era venuto meno in essi il loro spirito.	5 let me share the happiness of your chosen ones, let me share the joy of your people, the pride ofyour heritage.
6 E alzaron le grida al Signore, mentr'erano tribolati, e gli liberò dalle loro angustie.	6 Like our ancestors, we have sinned, we have acted wickedly, guiltily;
7 E li menò per la via diritta, affinchè giungessero alla città da abitare.	7 our ancestors in Egypt never grasped the meaning of your wonders. They did not bear in mind yourcountless acts of love, at the Sea of Reeds they defied the Most High;
8 Diano lode al Signore le sue misericordie, e le meraviglie di lui in pro de' figliuoli degli uomini.	8 but for the sake of his name he saved them, to make known his mighty power.
9 Perché egli ha saziata l'anima sitibonda, e l'anima famelica ha ricolma di beni.	9 At his rebuke the Sea of Reeds dried up, he let them pass through the deep as though it were desert,
10 Sedevan nelle tenebre, e all'ombra di morte imprigionati, e mendichi, e nelle catene.	10 so he saved them from their opponents' clutches, rescued them from the clutches of their enemies.
11 Perché furon ribelli alle parole di Dio, e dispregiarono i disegui dell'Altissimo.	11 The waters enveloped their enemies, not one of whom was left.
12 E fa umiliato negli all'anni il loro onore: restarono senza forze, e non fu chi prestasse soccorso.	12 Then they believed what he had said, and sang his praises.
13 E alzaron le grida, al Signore, mentre erano tribolati: e liberolli dalle loro necessità.	13 But they soon forgot his achievements, they did not even wait for his plans;
14 E li cavò dalle tenebre, e dall'ombra di morte, e spezzò le loro catene.	14 they were overwhelmed with greed in the wastelands, in the solitary wastes they challenged God.
15 Lodino il Signore per le sue misericordie, e le sue meraviglie a prò de' figliuoli degli uomini.	15 He gave them al they asked for, but struck them with a deep wasting sickness;
16 Perché egli ha spezzate le porte di bronzo, e rotti i catenacci di ferro.	16 in the camp they grew jealous of Moses, and of Aaron, Yahweh's holy one.
17 Li sollevò dalla via della loro iniquità, dappoichè per le loro ingiustizie furono umiliati.	17 The earth opened and swal owed up Dathan, closed in on Abiram's faction;
18 L'anima loro ebbe in aversione qualunque cibo: e si accostarono fino alle porte di morte.	18 fire flamed out against their faction, the renegades were engulfed in flames.
19 E alzaron le grida al Signore mentr'erano tribolati, e gli liberò dalle loro necessità.	19 At Horeb they made a calf, bowed low before cast metal;
20 Mandò la sua Parola, e li risanò, e dalla loro perdizione li trasse.	20 they exchanged their glory for the image of a grass-eating bull.
21 Lodino il Signore per le sue misericordie, e le sue meraviglie a prò de' figliuoli degli uomini:	21 They forgot the God who was saving them, who had done great deeds in Egypt,
22 E sagrifichino sagrifizio di laude, e celebrino con giubilo le opere di lui.	22 such wonders in the land of Ham, such awesome deeds at the Sea of Reeds.
23 Coloro, che solcano il mare sopra le navi, e nelle grandi acque lavorano.	23 He thought of putting an end to them, had not Moses, his chosen one, taken a stand in the breachand confronted him, to turn his anger away from destroying them.
24 Eglino han veduto le opere del Signore, e le meraviglie di lui nell'abisso.	24 They counted a desirable land for nothing, they put no trust in his promise;
25 Alla parola di lui venne il vento portator di tempesta, e i flutti del mare si alzarono.	25 they stayed in their tents and grumbled, they would not listen to Yahweh's voice.
26 Salgono fino al cielo, e scendono fino all'abisso; l'anima loro si consumava di affanni.	26 So he lifted his hand against them, to strike them down in the desert,
27 Erano sbigottiti, e si aggiravano come un ubbriaco: e tutta veniva meno la loro prudenza.	27 to strike down their descendants among the nations, to scatter them al over the world.
28 E alzaron le grida al Signore mentr'erano nella tribolazione, e gli liberò dalle loro necessità.	28 They committed themselves to serve Baal-Peor, and ate sacrifices made to lifeless gods.
29 E la procella cambiò in aura leggera: e i flutti del mare si tacquero.	29 They so provoked him by their actions that a plague broke out among them.
30 Ed eglino si rallegrarono perché si tacquero i flutti: ed ei li condussero a quel porto. ch'ei pur bramavano.	30 Then up stood Phinehas to intervene, and the plague was checked;
31 Lodino il Signore per le sue misericordie, e le sue meraviglie a prò de' figliuoli degli uomini.	31 for this he is the example of uprightness, from age to age for ever.
32 E lui celebrino nell'adunanza del popolo: e nel consesso de' seniori a lui diano laude.	32 At the waters of Meribah they so angered Yahweh, that Moses suffered on their account,
33 Ei cangiò i fiumi in secchi deserti, e le sorgive dell'acque in terreni assetati:	33 for they had embittered his spirit, and he spoke without due thought.
34 La terra fruttifera cangiò in salsedine per la malizia de' suoi abitatori.	34 They did not destroy the nations, as Yahweh had told them to do,
35 I deserti mutò in istagni di acque, e alla terra arida diede sorgenti di acque.	35 but intermarried with them, and adopted their ways.
36 E in essa collocò gli affamati, e vi fondarono città da abitarvi.	36 They worshipped those nations' false gods, til they found themselves entrapped,
37 E seminaron campi, e piantaron viti, ed ebber frutti in copia nascenti.	37 and sacrificed their own sons and their daughters to demons.
38 E li benedisse, e moltipllcarono grandemente, e accrebbe i loro bestiami.	38 Innocent blood they shed, the blood of their sons and daughters; offering them to the idols ofCanaan, they pol uted the country with blood.
39 Quantunque ei fosser ridotti a pochi, e fosser vessali da molti affanni, e dolori:	39 They defiled themselves by such actions, their behaviour was that of a harlot.
40 Il dispregio piovve sopra i potenti, ed ei li fè andare fuori di strada, e dove strada non, è.	40 Yahweh's anger blazed out at his people, his own heritage fil ed him with disgust.
41 Ed egli sollevò il povero nella miseria, e fè le famiglie come greggi di pecore.	41 He handed them over to the nations, and their opponents became their masters;
42 Queste cose le comprenderanno i giusti, e ne avranno allegrezza, e tutta l'iniquità si turerà la sua bocca.	42 their enemies lorded it over them, crushing them under their rule.
43 Chi è il saggio, che farà conserva di queste cose, e intenderà le misericordie del Signore?	43 Time and again he rescued them, but they stil defied him deliberately, and sank ever deeper in theirguilt;
	44 even so he took pity on their distress, as soon as he heard them cry out.
	45 Bearing his covenant with them in mind, he relented in his boundless and faithful love;
	46 he ensured that they received compassion, in their treatment by al their captors.
	47 Save us, Yahweh our God, gather us from among the nations, that we may give thanks to your holyname, and may glory in praising you.
	48 Blessed be Yahweh, the God of Israel, from all eternity and for ever! Let all the people say, 'Amen'.
