1 Cantico dei gradi. Se il Signore non fosse stato con noi; dica adesso Israele: Se il Signore non fosse stato con noi,	1 A Canticle in steps. If the Lord had not been with us, let Israel now say it:
2 Allorché gli uomini si levaron su contro di noi, ci avrebber forse ingoiati vivi:	2 if the Lord had not been with us, when men rose up against us,
3 Allorché il loro furore infuriava contro di noi forse l'acqua ci avrebbe assorti.	3 perhaps they would have swallowed us alive. When their fury was enraged against us,
4 L'anima nostra ha valicato il torrente: forse l'anima nostra avrebbe dovuto valicare un' acqua insuperabile.	4 perhaps the waters would have engulfed us.
5 Benedetto Dio, che non ci ha fatti preda de' loro denti.	5 Our soul has passed through a torrent. Perhaps, our soul had even passed through intolerable water.
6 L'anima nostra è stata sciolta qual passera dal lacciuolo de' cacciatori:	6 Blessed is the Lord, who has not given us into the harm of their teeth.
7 Il laccio è stato spezzato, e noi siamo stati liberati.	7 Our soul has been snatched away like a sparrow from the snare of the hunters. The snare has been broken, and we have been freed.
8 Il nostro aiuto è nel nome del Signore, che fece il cielo, e la terra.	8 Our help is in the name of the Lord, who made heaven and earth.
