NOVA VULGATANEW JERUSALEM
1 ALLELUIA.
Confitemini Domino et invocate nomen eius,
annuntiate inter gentes opera eius.
1 Al eluia! Give thanks to Yahweh, cal on his name, proclaim his deeds to the peoples!
2 Cantate ei et psallite ei,
meditamini in omnibus mirabilibus eius.
2 Sing to him, make music for him, recount all his wonders!
3 Laudamini in nomine sancto eius,
laetetur cor quaerentium Dominum.
3 Glory in his holy name, let the hearts that seek Yahweh rejoice!
4 Quaerite Dominum et potentiam eius,
quaerite faciem eius semper.
4 Seek Yahweh and his strength, tirelessly seek his presence!
5 Mementote mirabilium eius, quae fecit,
prodigia eius et iudicia oris eius,
5 Remember the marvels he has done, his wonders, the judgements he has spoken.
6 semen Abraham, servi eius,
filii Iacob, electi eius.
6 Stock of Abraham, his servant, children of Jacob whom he chose!
7 Ipse Dominus Deus noster;
in universa terra iudicia eius.
7 He is Yahweh our God, his judgements touch the whole world.
8 Memor fuit in saeculum testamenti sui,
verbi, quod mandavit in mille generationes,
8 He remembers his covenant for ever, the promise he laid down for a thousand generations,
9 quod disposuit cum Abraham,
et iuramenti sui ad Isaac.
9 which he concluded with Abraham, the oath he swore to Isaac.
10 Et statuit illud Iacob in praeceptum
et Israel in testamentum aeternum
10 He established it as a statute for Jacob, an everlasting covenant with Israel,
11 dicens: “ Tibi dabo terram Chanaan
funiculum hereditatis vestrae ”.
11 saying, 'To you I give a land, Canaan, your allotted birthright.'
12 Cum essent numero brevi,
paucissimi et peregrini in ea,
12 When they were insignificant in numbers, a handful of strangers in the land,
13 et pertransirent de gente in gentem
et de regno ad populum alterum,
13 wandering from country to country, from one kingdom and nation to another,
14 non permisit hominem nocere eis
et corripuit pro eis reges:
14 he al owed no one to oppress them; for their sake he instructed kings,
15 “ Nolite tangere christos meos
et in prophetis meis nolite malignari ”.
15 'Do not touch my anointed ones, to my prophets you may do no harm.'
16 Et vocavit famem super terram
et omne baculum panis contrivit.
16 He cal ed down famine on the land, he took away their food supply;
17 Misit ante eos virum,
in servum venumdatus est Ioseph.
17 he sent a man ahead of them, Joseph, sold as a slave.
18 Strinxerunt in compedibus pedes eius,
in ferrum intravit collum eius,
18 So his feet were weighed down with shackles, his neck was put in irons.
19 donec veniret verbum eius,
eloquium Domini purgaret eum.
19 In due time his prophecy was fulfilled, the word of Yahweh proved him true.
20 Misit rex et solvit eum,
princeps populorum, et dimisit eum;
20 The king sent orders to release him, the ruler of nations set him free;
21 constituit eum dominum domus suae
et principem omnis possessionis suae,
21 he put him in charge of his household, the ruler of al he possessed,
22 ut erudiret principes eius sicut semetipsum
et senes eius prudentiam doceret.
22 to instruct his princes as he saw fit, to teach his counsel ors wisdom.
23 Et intravit Israel in Aegyptum,
et Iacob peregrinus fuit in terra Cham.
23 Then Israel migrated to Egypt, Jacob settled in the country of Ham.
24 Et auxit populum suum vehementer
et confortavit eum super inimicos eius.
24 He made his people increase in numbers, he gave them more strength than their enemies,
25 Convertit cor eorum, ut odirent populum eius
et dolum facerent in servos eius.
25 whose heart he turned to hate his own people, to double-cross his servants.
26 Misit Moysen servum suum,
Aaron, quem elegit.
26 He sent his servant Moses, and Aaron, the man of his choice.
27 Posuit in eis verba signorum suorum
et prodigiorum in terra Cham.
27 They worked there the wonders he commanded, marvels in the country of Ham.
28 Misit tenebras et obscuravit,
et restiterunt sermonibus eius.
28 Darkness he sent, and darkness fel , but that nation defied his orders.
29 Convertit aquas eorum in sanguinem
et occidit pisces eorum.
29 He turned their rivers to blood, and kil ed al the fish in them.
30 Edidit terra eorum ranas
in penetralibus regum ipsorum.
30 Their country was overrun with frogs, even in the royal apartments;
31 Dixit, et venit coenomyia
et scinifes in omnibus finibus eorum.
31 at his word came flies, and mosquitoes throughout the country.
32 Posuit pluvias eorum grandinem,
ignem comburentem in terra ipsorum.
32 He gave them hail as their rain, flames of fire in their land;
33 Et percussit vineas eorum et ficulneas eorum
et contrivit lignum finium eorum.
33 he blasted their vine and their fig tree, and shattered the trees of the country.
34 Dixit, et venit locusta
et bruchus, cuius non erat numerus,
34 At his word came locusts, hoppers beyond al counting;
35 et comedit omne fenum in terra eorum
et comedit fructum terrae eorum.
35 they devoured every green thing in the land, devoured al the produce of the soil.
36 Et percussit omne primogenitum in terra eorum,
primitias omnis roboris eorum.
36 He struck al the first-born in their land, the flower of all their manhood;
37 Et eduxit eos cum argento et auro;
et non erat in tribubus eorum infirmus.
37 he led Israel out with silver and gold; in their tribes there was none who stumbled.
38 Laetata est Aegyptus in profectione eorum,
quia incubuit timor eorum super eos.
38 Egypt was glad at their leaving, for terror of Israel had seized them.
39 Expandit nubem in protectionem
et ignem, ut luceret eis per noctem.
39 He spread out a cloud to cover them, and fire to light up the night.
40 Petierunt, et venit coturnix,
et pane caeli saturavit eos.
40 They asked and he brought them quails, food from heaven to their hearts' content;
41 Dirupit petram, et fluxerunt aquae,
abierunt in sicco flumina.
41 he opened a rock, the waters gushed out, and flowed in dry ground as a river.
42 Quoniam memor fuit verbi sancti sui
ad Abraham puerum suum.
42 Faithful to his sacred promise, given to his servant Abraham,
43 Et eduxit populum suum in exsultatione,
electos suos in laetitia.
43 he led out his people with rejoicing, his chosen ones with shouts of joy.
44 Et dedit illis regiones gentium,
et labores populorum possederunt,
44 He gave them the territories of nations, they reaped the fruit of other people's labours,
45 ut custodiant iustificationes eius
et leges eius servent.
ALLELUIA.
45 on condition that they kept his statutes, and remained obedient to his laws.
