NOVA VULGATANEW JERUSALEM
1 Magistro chori. Psalmus. David,
1 [For the choirmaster Of David When the prophet Nathan had come to him because he had gone toBathsheba] Have mercy on me, O God, in your faithful love, in your great tenderness wipe away my offences;
2 cum venit ad eum Nathan propheta,
postquam cum Bethsabee peccavit.
2 wash me clean from my guilt, purify me from my sin.
3 Miserere mei, Deus, secundum misericordiam tuam;
et secundum multitudinem miserationum tuarum
dele iniquitatem meam.
3 For I am wel aware of my offences, my sin is constantly in mind.
4 Amplius lava me ab iniquitate mea
et a peccato meo munda me.
4 Against you, you alone, I have sinned, I have done what you see to be wrong, that you may show yoursaving justice when you pass sentence, and your victory may appear when you give judgement,
5 Quoniam iniquitatem meam ego cognosco,
et peccatum meum contra me est semper.
5 remember, I was born guilty, a sinner from the moment of conception.
6 Tibi, tibi soli peccavi et malum coram te feci,
ut iustus inveniaris in sententia tua et aequus in iudicio tuo.
6 But you delight in sincerity of heart, and in secret you teach me wisdom.
7 Ecce enim in iniquitate generatus sum,
et in peccato concepit me mater mea.
7 Purify me with hyssop till I am clean, wash me til I am whiter than snow.
8 Ecce enim veritatem in corde dilexisti
et in occulto sapientiam manifestasti mihi.
8 Let me hear the sound of joy and gladness, and the bones you have crushed wil dance.
9 Asperges me hyssopo, et mundabor;
lavabis me, et super nivem dealbabor.
9 Turn away your face from my sins, and wipe away al my guilt.
10 Audire me facies gaudium et laetitiam,
et exsultabunt ossa, quae contrivisti.
10 God, create in me a clean heart, renew within me a resolute spirit,
11 Averte faciem tuam a peccatis meis
et omnes iniquitates meas dele.
11 do not thrust me away from your presence, do not take away from me your spirit of holiness.
12 Cor mundum crea in me, Deus,
et spiritum firmum innova in visceribus meis.
12 Give me back the joy of your salvation, sustain in me a generous spirit.
13 Ne proicias me a facie tua
et spiritum sanctum tuum ne auferas a me.
13 I shal teach the wicked your paths, and sinners will return to you.
14 Redde mihi laetitiam salutaris tui
et spiritu promptissimo confirma me.
14 Deliver me from bloodshed, God, God of my salvation, and my tongue wil acclaim your savingjustice.
15 Docebo iniquos vias tuas,
et impii ad te convertentur.
15 Lord, open my lips, and my mouth wil speak out your praise.
16 Libera me de sanguinibus, Deus, Deus salutis meae,
et exsultabit lingua mea iustitiam tuam.
16 Sacrifice gives you no pleasure, burnt offering you do not desire.
17 Domine, labia mea aperies,
et os meum annuntiabit laudem tuam.
17 Sacrifice to God is a broken spirit, a broken, contrite heart you never scorn.
18 Non enim sacrificio delectaris;
holocaustum, si offeram, non placebit.
18 In your graciousness do good to Zion, rebuild the wal s of Jerusalem.
19 Sacrificium Deo spiritus contribulatus;
cor contritum et humiliatum, Deus, non despicies.
19 Then you wil delight in upright sacrifices,-burnt offerings and whole oblations -- and young bul s will be offered on your altar.
20 Benigne fac, Domine, in bona voluntate tua Sion,
ut aedificentur muri Ierusalem.
21 Tunc acceptabis sacrificium iustitiae, oblationes et holocausta;
tunc imponent super altare tuum vitulos.
