NOVA VULGATANEW JERUSALEM
1 Lamentatio David, quam cantavit Domino propter Chus Beniaminitam.
1 [Lament Of David Which he sang to Yahweh about Cush the Benjaminite] Yahweh my God, I takerefuge in you, save me from al my pursuers and rescue me,
2 Domine Deus meus, in te speravi;
salvum me fac ex omnibus persequentibus me et libera me,
2 or he wil savage me like a lion, carry me off with no one to rescue me.
3 ne quando rapiat ut leo animam meam
discerpens, dum non est qui salvum faciat.
3 Yahweh my God, if I have done this: if injustice has stained my hands,
4 Domine Deus meus, si feci istud,
si est iniquitas in manibus meis,
4 if I have repaid my al y with treachery or spared one who attacked me unprovoked,
5 si reddidi retribuenti mihi mala
et exspoliavi inimicum meum dimittens inanem,
5 may an enemy hunt me down and catch me, may he trample my life into the ground and crush my vitalparts into the dust.Pause
6 persequatur inimicus animam meam et comprehendat
et conculcet in terra vitam meam
et gloriam meam in pulverem deducat.
6 Arise, Yahweh, in your anger, rise up against the arrogance of my foes. Awake, my God, you demandjudgement.
7 Exsurge, Domine, in ira tua
et exaltare contra indignationem inimicorum meorum
et exsurge, Deus meus, in iudicio, quod mandasti.
7 Let the assembly of nations gather round you; return above it on high!
8 Et synagoga populorum circumdabit te,
et super hanc in altum regredere:
8 (Yahweh judges the nations.) Judge me, Yahweh, as my uprightness and my integrity deserve.
9 Dominus iudicat populos.
Iudica me, Domine, secundum iustitiam meam
et secundum innocentiam meam, quae est in me.
9 Put an end to the malice of the wicked, make the upright stand firm, you who discern hearts and minds,God the upright.
10 Consumatur nequitia peccatorum;
et iustum confirma:
scrutans corda et renes Deus iustus.
10 God is a shield that protects me, saving the honest of heart.
11 Adiutorium meum apud Deum,
qui salvos facit rectos corde.
11 God is an upright judge, slow to anger, but a God at al times threatening
12 Deus iudex iustus,
fortis, irascens per singulos dies.
12 for those who wil not repent. Let the enemy whet his sword, draw his bow and make ready;
13 Nonne iterum gladium suum exacuit,
arcum suum tetendit et paravit illum?
13 but he is making ready instruments of death for himself and tipping his arrows with fire;
14 Et paravit sibi vasa mortis,
sagittas suas ardentes effecit.
14 look at him: pregnant with malice, conceiving spite, he gives birth to treachery.
15 Ecce parturiit iniustitiam,
concepit dolorem et peperit iniquitatem;
15 He digs a trap, scoops it out, but he fal s into the snare he made himself.
16 lacum aperuit et effodit eum
et incidit in foveam, quam fecit.
16 His spite recoils on his own head, his brutality falls back on his own skul .
17 Convertetur dolor eius in caput eius,
et in verticem ipsius iniquitas eius descendet.
17 I thank Yahweh for his saving justice. I sing to the name of the Most High.
18 Confitebor Domino secundum iustitiam eius
et psallam nomini Domini Altissimi.
