1 Maskil. Di Asaf.Ascolta, popolo mio, la mia legge,porgi l’orecchio alle parole della mia bocca.	1 A maskil of Asaph. Attend, my people, to my teaching; listen to the words of my mouth.
2 Aprirò la mia bocca con una parabola,rievocherò gli enigmi dei tempi antichi.	2 I will open my mouth in story, drawing lessons from of old.
3 Ciò che abbiamo udito e conosciutoe i nostri padri ci hanno raccontato	3 We have heard them, we know them; our ancestors have recited them to us.
4 non lo terremo nascosto ai nostri figli,raccontando alla generazione futurale azioni gloriose e potenti del Signoree le meraviglie che egli ha compiuto.	4 We do not keep them from our children; we recite them to the next generation, The praiseworthy and mighty deeds of the LORD, the wonders that he performed.
5 Ha stabilito un insegnamento in Giacobbe,ha posto una legge in Israele,che ha comandato ai nostri padridi far conoscere ai loro figli,	5 God set up a decree in Jacob, established a law in Israel: What he commanded our ancestors, they were to teach their children;
6 perché la conosca la generazione futura,i figli che nasceranno.Essi poi si alzeranno a raccontarlo ai loro figli,	6 That the next generation might come to know, children yet to be born. In turn they were to recite them to their children,
7 perché ripongano in Dio la loro fiduciae non dimentichino le opere di Dio,ma custodiscano i suoi comandi.	7 that they too might put their trust in God, And not forget the works of God, keeping his commandments.
8 Non siano come i loro padri,generazione ribelle e ostinata,generazione dal cuore incostantee dallo spirito infedele a Dio.	8 They were not to be like their ancestors, a rebellious and defiant generation, A generation whose heart was not constant, whose spirit was not faithful to God,
9 I figli di Èfraim, arcieri valorosi,voltarono le spalle nel giorno della battaglia.	9 Like the ranks of Ephraimite archers, who retreated on the day of battle.
10 Non osservarono l’alleanza di Dioe si rifiutarono di camminare nella sua legge.	10 They did not keep God's covenant; they refused to walk by his law.
11 Dimenticarono le sue opere,le meraviglie che aveva loro mostrato.	11 They forgot his works, the wondrous deeds he had shown them.
12 Cose meravigliose aveva fatto davanti ai loro padrinel paese d’Egitto, nella regione di Tanis.	12 In the sight of their ancestors God did wonders, in the land of Egypt, the plain of Zoan.
13 Divise il mare e li fece passare,e fermò le acque come un argine.	13 He split the sea and led them across, piling up the waters rigid as walls.
14 Li guidò con una nube di giornoe tutta la notte con un bagliore di fuoco.	14 God led them with a cloud by day, all night with the light of fire.
15 Spaccò rocce nel desertoe diede loro da bere come dal grande abisso.	15 He split rock in the desert, gave water to drink, abounding as the deep.
16 Fece sgorgare ruscelli dalla rupee scorrere l’acqua a fiumi.	16 He made streams flow from crags, drew out rivers of water.
17 Eppure continuarono a peccare contro di lui,a ribellarsi all’Altissimo in luoghi aridi.	17 But they went on sinning against him, rebelling against the Most High in the desert.
18 Nel loro cuore tentarono Dio,chiedendo cibo per la loro gola.	18 They tested God in their hearts, demanding the food they craved.
19 Parlarono contro Dio,dicendo: «Sarà capace Diodi preparare una tavola nel deserto?».	19 They spoke against God, and said, "Can God spread a table in the desert?
20 Certo! Egli percosse la rupee ne scaturì acqua e strariparono torrenti.«Saprà dare anche paneo procurare carne al suo popolo?».	20 True, when he struck the rock, water gushed forth, the wadis flooded. But can he also provide bread, give meat to his people?"
21 Perciò il Signore udì e ne fu adirato;un fuoco divampò contro Giacobbee la sua ira si levò contro Israele,	21 The LORD heard and grew angry; fire blazed up against Jacob; anger flared up against Israel.
22 perché non ebbero fede in Dioe non confidarono nella sua salvezza.	22 For they did not believe in God, did not trust in his saving power.
23 Diede ordine alle nubi dall’altoe aprì le porte del cielo;	23 So he commanded the skies above; the doors of heaven he opened.
24 fece piovere su di loro la manna per ciboe diede loro pane del cielo:	24 God rained manna upon them for food; bread from heaven he gave them.
25 l’uomo mangiò il pane dei forti;diede loro cibo in abbondanza.	25 All ate a meal fit for heroes; food he sent in abundance.
26 Scatenò nel cielo il vento orientale,con la sua forza fece soffiare il vento australe;	26 He stirred up the east wind in the heavens; by his power God brought on the south wind.
27 su di loro fece piovere carne come polveree uccelli come sabbia del mare,	27 He rained meat upon them like dust, winged fowl like the sands of the sea,
28 li fece cadere in mezzo ai loro accampamenti,tutt’intorno alle loro tende.	28 Brought them down in the midst of the camp, round about their tents.
29 Mangiarono fino a saziarsied egli appagò il loro desiderio.	29 They ate and were well filled; he gave them what they had craved.
30 Il loro desiderio non era ancora scomparso,avevano ancora il cibo in bocca,	30 But while they still wanted more, and the food was still in their mouths,
31 quando l’ira di Dio si levò contro di loro,uccise i più robusti e abbatté i migliori d’Israele.	31 God's anger attacked them, killed their best warriors, laid low the youth of Israel.
32 Con tutto questo, peccarono ancorae non ebbero fede nelle sue meraviglie.	32 In spite of all this they went on sinning, they did not believe in his wonders.
33 Allora consumò in un soffio i loro giornie i loro anni nel terrore.	33 God ended their days abruptly, their years in sudden death.
34 Quando li uccideva, lo cercavanoe tornavano a rivolgersi a lui,	34 When he slew them, they began to seek him; they again inquired of their God.
35 ricordavano che Dio è la loro rocciae Dio, l’Altissimo, il loro redentore;	35 They remembered that God was their rock, God Most High, their redeemer.
36 lo lusingavano con la loro bocca,ma gli mentivano con la lingua:	36 But they deceived him with their mouths, lied to him with their tongues.
37 il loro cuore non era costante verso di luie non erano fedeli alla sua alleanza.	37 Their hearts were not constant toward him; they were not faithful to his covenant.
38 Ma lui, misericordioso, perdonava la colpa,invece di distruggere.Molte volte trattenne la sua irae non scatenò il suo furore;	38 But God is merciful and forgave their sin; he did not utterly destroy them. Time and again he turned back his anger, unwilling to unleash all his rage.
39 ricordava che essi sono di carne,un soffio che va e non ritorna.	39 He was mindful that they were flesh, a breath that passes and does not return.
40 Quante volte si ribellarono a lui nel deserto,lo rattristarono in quei luoghi solitari!	40 How often they rebelled against God in the desert, grieved him in the wasteland.
41 Ritornarono a tentare Dio,a esasperare il Santo d’Israele.	41 Again and again they tested God, provoked the Holy One of Israel.
42 Non si ricordarono più della sua mano,del giorno in cui li aveva riscattati dall’oppressione,	42 They did not remember his power, the day he redeemed them from the foe,
43 quando operò in Egitto i suoi segni,i suoi prodigi nella regione di Tanis.	43 When he displayed his wonders in Egypt, his marvels in the plain of Zoan.
44 Egli mutò in sangue i loro fiumie i loro ruscelli, perché non bevessero.	44 God changed their rivers to blood; their streams they could not drink.
45 Mandò contro di loro tafani a divorarlie rane a distruggerli.	45 He sent insects that devoured them, frogs that destroyed them.
46 Diede ai bruchi il loro raccolto,alle locuste la loro fatica.	46 He gave their harvest to the caterpillar, the fruits of their labor to the locust.
47 Devastò le loro vigne con la grandine,i loro sicomòri con la brina.	47 He killed their vines with hail, their sycamores with frost.
48 Consegnò alla peste il loro bestiame,ai fulmini le loro greggi.	48 He exposed their flocks to deadly hail, their cattle to lightning.
49 Scatenò contro di loro l’ardore della sua ira,la collera, lo sdegno, la tribolazione,e inviò messaggeri di sventure.	49 He unleashed against them his fiery breath, roar, fury, and distress, storming messengers of death.
50 Spianò la strada alla sua ira:non li risparmiò dalla mortee diede in preda alla peste la loro vita.	50 He cleared a path for his anger; he did not spare them from death; he delivered their beasts to the plague.
51 Colpì ogni primogenito in Egitto,nelle tende di Cam la primizia del loro vigore.	51 He struck all the firstborn of Egypt, love's first child in the tents of Ham.
52 Fece partire come pecore il suo popoloe li condusse come greggi nel deserto.	52 God led forth his people like sheep; he guided them through the desert like a flock.
53 Li guidò con sicurezza e non ebbero paura,ma i loro nemici li sommerse il mare.	53 He led them on secure and unafraid, but the sea enveloped their enemies.
54 Li fece entrare nei confini del suo santuario,questo monte che la sua destra si è acquistato.	54 He brought them to his holy land, the mountain his right hand had won.
55 Scacciò davanti a loro le gentie sulla loro eredità gettò la sorte,facendo abitare nelle loro tendele tribù d’Israele.	55 God drove out the nations before them, apportioned them a heritage by lot, settled the tribes of Israel in their tents.
56 Ma essi lo tentarono,si ribellarono a Dio, l’Altissimo,e non osservarono i suoi insegnamenti.	56 But they tested, rebelled against God Most High, his decrees they did not observe.
57 Deviarono e tradirono come i loro padri,fallirono come un arco allentato.	57 They turned back, deceitful like their ancestors; they proved false like a bow with no tension.
58 Lo provocarono con le loro alture sacree con i loro idoli lo resero geloso.	58 They enraged him with their high places; with their idols they goaded him.
59 Dio udì e s’infiammò,e respinse duramente Israele.	59 God heard and grew angry; he rejected Israel completely.
60 Abbandonò la dimora di Silo,la tenda che abitava tra gli uomini;	60 He forsook the shrine at Shiloh, the tent where he dwelt with humans.
61 ridusse in schiavitù la sua forza,il suo splendore in potere del nemico.	61 He gave up his might into captivity, his glorious ark into the hands of the foe.
62 Diede il suo popolo in preda alla spadae s’infiammò contro la sua eredità.	62 God abandoned his people to the sword; he was enraged against his heritage.
63 Il fuoco divorò i suoi giovani migliori,le sue fanciulle non ebbero canti nuziali.	63 Fire consumed their young men; their young women heard no wedding songs.
64 I suoi sacerdoti caddero di spadae le loro vedove non fecero il lamento.	64 Their priests fell by the sword; their widows made no lamentation.
65 Ma poi il Signore si destò come da un sonno,come un eroe assopito dal vino.	65 Then the Lord awoke as from sleep, like a warrior from the effects of wine.
66 Colpì alle spalle i suoi avversari,inflisse loro una vergogna eterna.	66 He put his enemies to flight; everlasting shame he dealt them.
67 Rifiutò la tenda di Giuseppe,non scelse la tribù di Èfraim,	67 He rejected the tent of Joseph, chose not the tribe of Ephraim.
68 ma scelse la tribù di Giuda,il monte Sion che egli ama.	68 God chose the tribe of Judah, Mount Zion which he favored.
69 Costruì il suo tempio alto come il cielo,e come la terra, fondata per sempre.	69 He built his shrine like the heavens, like the earth which he founded forever.
70 Egli scelse Davide suo servoe lo prese dagli ovili delle pecore.	70 He chose David his servant, took him from the sheepfold.
71 Lo allontanò dalle pecore madriper farne il pastore di Giacobbe, suo popolo,d’Israele, sua eredità.	71 From tending sheep God brought him, to shepherd Jacob, his people, Israel, his heritage.
72 Fu per loro un pastore dal cuore integroe li guidò con mano intelligente.	72 He shepherded them with a pure heart; with skilled hands he guided them.
