NOVA VULGATA	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Magistro chori. David, servi Domini, qui locutus est ad Dominum verba huius cantici, quando Dominus eum liberaverat e potestate omnium inimicorum suorum	1 [For the choirmaster Of David, the servant of Yahweh, who addressed the words of this song toYahweh when Yahweh had delivered him from all his enemies and from the clutches of Saul. He said:] I loveyou, Yahweh, my strength (my Saviour, you have saved me from violence).
2 et e manu Saul. Dixit igitur: Diligam te, Domine, fortitudo mea.	2 Yahweh is my rock and my fortress, my deliverer is my God. I take refuge in him, my rock, my shield,my saving strength, my stronghold, my place of refuge.
3 Domine, firmamentum meum et refugium meum et liberator meus; Deus meus, adiutor meus, et sperabo in eum; protector meus et cornu salutis meae et susceptor meus.	3 I call to Yahweh who is worthy of praise, and I am saved from my foes.
4 Laudabilem invocabo Dominum, et ab inimicis meis salvus ero.	4 With Death's breakers closing in on me, Belial's torrents ready to swal ow me,
5 Circumdederunt me fluctus mortis, et torrentes Belial conturbaverunt me;	5 Sheol's snares every side of me, Death's traps lying ahead of me,
6 funes inferni circumdederunt me, praeoccupaverunt me laquei mortis.	6 I called to Yahweh in my anguish, I cried for help to my God; from his Temple he heard my voice, mycry came to his ears.
7 In tribulatione mea invocavi Dominum et ad Deum meum clamavi; exaudivit de templo suo vocem meam, et clamor meus in conspectu eius introivit in aures eius.	7 Then the earth quaked and rocked, the mountains' foundations shuddered, they quaked at his blazinganger.
8 Commota est et contremuit terra; fundamenta montium concussa sunt et commota sunt, quoniam iratus est.	8 Smoke rose from his nostrils, from his mouth devouring fire (coals were kindled at it).
9 Ascendit fumus de naribus eius, et ignis de ore eius devorans; carbones succensi processerunt ab eo.	9 He parted the heavens and came down, a storm-cloud underneath his feet;
10 Inclinavit caelos et descendit, et caligo sub pedibus eius.	10 riding one of the winged creatures, he flew, soaring on the wings of the wind.
11 Et ascendit super cherub et volavit, ferebatur super pennas ventorum.	11 His covering he made the darkness, his pavilion dark waters and dense cloud.
12 Et posuit tenebras latibulum suum, in circuitu eius tabernaculum eius, tenebrosa aqua, nubes aeris.	12 A brightness lit up before him, hail and blazing fire.
13 Prae fulgore in conspectu eius nubes transierunt, grando et carbones ignis.	13 Yahweh thundered from the heavens, the Most High made his voice heard.
14 Et intonuit de caelo Dominus, et Altissimus dedit vocem suam: grando et carbones ignis.	14 He shot his arrows and scattered them, he hurled his lightning and routed them.
15 Et misit sagittas suas et dissipavit eos, fulgura iecit et conturbavit eos.	15 The very springs of ocean were exposed, the world's foundations were laid bare, at your roaring,Yahweh, at the blast of breath from your nostrils!
16 Et apparuerunt fontes aquarum, et revelata sunt fundamenta orbis terrarum ab increpatione tua, Domine, ab inspiratione spiritus irae tuae.	16 He reached down from on high, snatched me up, pulled me from the watery depths,
17 Misit de summo et accepit me et assumpsit me de aquis multis;	17 rescued me from my mighty foe, from my enemies who were stronger than I.
18 eripuit me de inimicis meis fortissimis et ab his, qui oderunt me, quoniam confortati sunt super me.	18 They assailed me on my day of disaster but Yahweh was there to support me;
19 Oppugnaverunt me in die afflictionis meae, et factus est Dominus fulcimentum meum;	19 he freed me, set me at large, he rescued me because he loves me.
20 et eduxit me in latitudinem, salvum me fecit, quoniam voluit me.	20 Yahweh rewards me for my uprightness, as my hands are pure, so he repays me,
21 Et retribuet mihi Dominus secundum iustitiam meam et secundum puritatem manuum mearum reddet mihi,	21 since I have kept the ways of Yahweh, and not fallen away from my God.
22 quia custodivi vias Domini nec impie recessi a Deo meo.	22 His judgements are al before me, his statutes I have not put away from me.
23 Quoniam omnia iudicia eius in conspectu meo, et iustitias eius non reppuli a me;	23 I am blameless before him, I keep myself clear of evil.
24 et fui immaculatus cum eo et observavi me ab iniquitate.	24 So Yahweh repaid me for acting uprightly because he could see I was pure.
25 Et retribuit mihi Dominus secundum iustitiam meam et secundum puritatem manuum mearum in conspectu oculorum eius.	25 You are faithful to the faithful, blameless with the blameless,
26 Cum sancto sanctus eris et cum viro innocente innocens eris	26 sincere to the sincere, but cunning to the crafty,
27 et cum electo electus eris et cum perverso callidus eris.	27 you save a people that is humble and humiliate those with haughty looks.
28 Quoniam tu populum humilem salvum facies et oculos superborum humiliabis.	28 Yahweh, you yourself are my lamp, my God lights up my darkness;
29 Quoniam tu accendis lucernam meam, Domine; Deus meus illuminat tenebras meas.	29 with you I storm the rampart, with my God I can scale any wal .
30 Quoniam in te aggrediar hostium turmas et in Deo meo transiliam murum.	30 This God, his way is blameless; the word of Yahweh is refined in the furnace, for he alone is theshield of al who take refuge in him.
31 Deus, impolluta via eius, eloquia Domini igne examinata; protector est omnium sperantium in se.	31 For who is God but Yahweh, who is a rock but our God?
32 Quoniam quis Deus praeter Dominum? Aut quae munitio praeter Deum nostrum?	32 This God who girds me with strength, who makes my way free from blame,
33 Deus, qui praecinxit me virtute et posuit immaculatam viam meam;	33 who makes me as swift as a deer and sets me firmly on the heights,
34 qui perfecit pedes meos tamquam cervorum et super excelsa statuit me;	34 who trains my hands for battle, my arms to bend a bow of bronze.
35 qui docet manus meas ad proelium, et tendunt arcum aereum brachia mea.	35 You give me your invincible shield (your right hand upholds me) you never cease to listen to me,
36 Et dedisti mihi scutum salutis tuae, et dextera tua suscepit me, et exauditio tua magnificavit me.	36 you give me the strides of a giant, give me ankles that never weaken.
37 Dilatasti gressus meos subtus me, et non sunt infirmata vestigia mea.	37 I pursue my enemies and overtake them, not turning back til they are annihilated;
38 Persequebar inimicos meos et comprehendebam illos et non convertebar, donec deficerent.	38 I strike them down and they cannot rise, they fall, they are under my feet.
39 Confringebam illos, nec poterant stare, cadebant subtus pedes meos.	39 You have girded me with strength for the fight, bent down my assailants beneath me,
40 Et praecinxisti me virtute ad bellum et supplantasti insurgentes in me subtus me.	40 made my enemies retreat before me; and those who hate me I destroy.
41 Et inimicos meos dedisti mihi dorsum et odientes me disperdidisti.	41 They cry out, there is no one to save; to Yahweh, but no answer comes.
42 Clamaverunt, nec erat qui salvos faceret, ad Dominum, nec exaudivit eos.	42 I crumble them like dust before the wind, trample them like the mud of the streets.
43 Et comminui eos ut pulverem ante faciem venti, ut lutum platearum contrivi eos.	43 You free me from the quarrels of my people, you place me at the head of the nations, a people I didnot know are now my servants;
44 Eripuisti me de contradictionibus populi, constituisti me in caput gentium. Populus, quem non cognovi, servivit mihi,	44 foreigners come wooing my favour, no sooner do they hear than they obey me;
45 in auditu auris oboedivit mihi. Filii alieni blanditi sunt mihi,	45 foreigners grow faint of heart, they come trembling out of their fastnesses.
46 filii alieni inveterati sunt, contremuerunt in abditis suis.	46 Life to Yahweh! Blessed be my rock! Exalted be the God of my salvation,
47 Vivit Dominus, et benedictus Adiutor meus, et exaltetur Deus salutis meae.	47 the God who gives me vengeance, and subjects whole peoples to me,
48 Deus, qui das vindictas mihi et subdis populos sub me, liberator meus de inimicis meis iracundis;	48 who rescues me from my raging enemies. You lift me high above those who attack me, you deliverme from the man of violence.
49 et ab insurgentibus in me exaltas me, a viro iniquo eripis me.	49 For this I wil praise you, Yahweh, among the nations, and sing praise to your name.
50 Propterea confitebor tibi in nationibus, Domine, et nomini tuo psalmum dicam,	50 He saves his king time after time, displays his faithful love for his anointed, for David and his heirs forever.
51 magnificans salutes regis sui et faciens misericordiam christo suo David et semini eius usque in saeculum.
