NOVA VULGATANEW JERUSALEM
1 Magistro chori. Secundum Idithun. Asaph. Psalmus.
1 [For the choirmaster . . . Jeduthun Of Asaph Psalm] I cry to God in distress, I cry to God and he hearsme.
2 Voce mea ad Dominum clamavi;
voce mea ad Deum, et intendit mihi.
2 In the day of my distress I sought the Lord; al night I tirelessly stretched out my hands, my heartrefused to be consoled.
3 In die tribulationis meae Deum exquisivi,
manus meae nocte expansae sunt
et non fatigantur.
Renuit consolari anima mea;
3 I sigh as I think of God, my spirit faints away as I ponder on him. Pause
4 memor sum Dei et ingemisco,
exerceor, et deficit spiritus meus.
4 You kept me from closing my eyes, I was too distraught to speak;
5 Vigiles tenuisti palpebras oculi mei; turbatus sum et non sum locutus.
5 I thought of former times, years long past
6 Cogitavi dies antiquos
et annos aeternos in mente habui.
6 I recalled; through the night I ponder in my heart, as I reflect, my spirit asks this question:
7 Meditatus sum nocte cum corde meo
et exercitabar et scobebam spiritum meum.
7 Is the Lord's rejection final? Will he never show favour again?
8 Numquid in aeternum proiciet Deus,
aut non apponet, ut complacitior sit adhuc?
8 Is his faithful love gone for ever? Has his Word come to an end for al time?
9 Aut deficiet in finem misericordia sua,
cessabit verbum a generatione in generationem?
9 Does God forget to show mercy? In anger does he shut off his tenderness?Pause
10 Aut obliviscetur misereri Deus,
aut continebit in ira sua misericordias suas?
10 And I said, 'This is what wounds me, the right hand of the Most High has lost its strength.'
11 Et dixi: “ Hoc vulnus meum:
mutatio dexterae Excelsi ”.
11 Remembering Yahweh's great deeds, remembering your wonders in the past,
12 Memor ero operum Domini,
memor ero ab initio mirabilium tuorum.
12 I reflect on al that you did, I ponder all your great deeds.
13 Et meditabor in omnibus operibus tuis
et in adinventionibus tuis exercebor.
13 God, your ways are holy! What god is as great as our God?
14 Deus, in sancto via tua;
quis deus magnus sicut Deus noster?
14 You are the God who does marvel ous deeds, brought nations to acknowledge your power,
15 Tu es Deus, qui facis mirabilia,
notam fecisti in populis virtutem tuam.
15 with your own arm redeeming your people, the children of Jacob and Joseph.Pause
16 Redemisti in brachio tuo populum tuum,
filios Iacob et Ioseph.
16 When the waters saw you, God, when the waters saw you they writhed in anguish, the very depthsshook with fear.
17 Viderunt te aquae, Deus,
viderunt te aquae et doluerunt;
etenim commotae sunt abyssi.
17 The clouds pelted down water, the sky thundered, your arrows shot back and forth.
18 Effuderunt aquas nubila,
vocem dederunt nubes,
etenim sagittae tuae transeunt.
18 The rol ing of your thunder was heard, your lightning-flashes lit up the world, the earth shuddered andshook.
19 Vox tonitrui tui in rota;
illuxerunt coruscationes tuae orbi terrae,
commota est et contremuit terra.
19 Your way led over the sea, your path over the countless waters, and none could trace your footsteps.
20 In mari via tua, et semitae tuae in aquis multis;
et vestigia tua non cognoscuntur.
20 You guided your people like a flock by the hand of Moses and Aaron.
21 Deduxisti sicut oves populum tuum
in manu Moysi et Aaron.
