1 Dio vendicatore, Signore,Dio vendicatore, risplendi!	1 God of vengeance, Yahweh, God of vengeance, shine forth!
2 Àlzati, giudice della terra,rendi ai superbi quello che si meritano!	2 Arise, judge of the world, give back the proud what they deserve!
3 Fino a quando i malvagi, Signore,fino a quando i malvagi trionferanno?	3 How long are the wicked, Yahweh, how long are the wicked to triumph?
4 Sparleranno, diranno insolenze,si vanteranno tutti i malfattori?	4 They bluster and boast, they flaunt themselves, all the evil-doers.
5 Calpestano il tuo popolo, Signore,opprimono la tua eredità.	5 They crush your people, Yahweh, they oppress your heritage,
6 Uccidono la vedova e il forestiero,massacrano gli orfani.	6 they murder the widow and the stranger, bring the orphan to a violent death.
7 E dicono: «Il Signore non vede,il Dio di Giacobbe non intende».	7 They say, 'Yahweh is not looking, the God of Jacob is taking no notice.'
8 Intendete, ignoranti del popolo:stolti, quando diventerete saggi?	8 Take notice yourselves, you coarsest of people! Fools, when wil you learn some sense?
9 Chi ha formato l’orecchio, forse non sente?Chi ha plasmato l’occhio, forse non vede?	9 Shal he who implanted the ear not hear, he who fashioned the eye not see?
10 Colui che castiga le genti, forse non punisce,lui che insegna all’uomo il sapere?	10 Shal he who instructs nations not punish? Yahweh, the teacher of al people,
11 Il Signore conosce i pensieri dell’uomo:non sono che un soffio.	11 knows human plans and how insipid they are.
12 Beato l’uomo che tu castighi, Signore,e a cui insegni la tua legge,	12 How blessed are those you instruct, Yahweh, whom you teach by means of your law,
13 per dargli riposo nei giorni di sventura,finché al malvagio sia scavata la fossa;	13 to give them respite in evil times, til a pit is dug for the wicked.
14 poiché il Signore non respinge il suo popoloe non abbandona la sua eredità,	14 Yahweh will not abandon his people, he wil not desert his heritage;
15 il giudizio ritornerà a essere giustoe lo seguiranno tutti i retti di cuore.	15 for judgement will again become saving justice, and in its wake al upright hearts will fol ow.
16 Chi sorgerà per me contro i malvagi?Chi si alzerà con me contro i malfattori?	16 Who rises up on my side against the wicked? Who stands firm on my side against al evil-doers?
17 Se il Signore non fosse stato il mio aiuto,in breve avrei abitato nel regno del silenzio.	17 If Yahweh did not come to my help, I should soon find myself dwel ing in the silence.
18 Quando dicevo: «Il mio piede vacilla»,la tua fedeltà, Signore, mi ha sostenuto.	18 I need only say, 'I am slipping,' for your faithful love, Yahweh, to support me;
19 Nel mio intimo, fra molte preoccupazioni,il tuo conforto mi ha allietato.	19 however great the anxiety of my heart, your consolations soothe me.
20 Può essere tuo alleato un tribunale iniquo,che in nome della legge provoca oppressioni?	20 Are you partner to a destructive court, that gives disorder the status of law?
21 Si avventano contro la vita del giustoe condannano il sangue innocente.	21 They make an attack on the life of the upright, and condemn innocent blood.
22 Ma il Signore è il mio baluardo,roccia del mio rifugio è il mio Dio.	22 No! Yahweh is a stronghold to me, my God is my rock of refuge.
23 Su di loro farà ricadere la loro malizia,li annienterà per la loro perfidia,li annienterà il Signore, nostro Dio.	23 He turns back their guilt on themselves, annihilates them for their wickedness, he annihilates them,Yahweh our God.
