NOVA VULGATA	NEW JERUSALEM
1 (Vg 9, 22-39) LAMED. Ut quid, Domine, stas a longe, abscondis te in opportunitatibus, in tribulatione?	1 Why, Yahweh, do you keep so distant, stay hidden in times of trouble?
2 Dum superbit, impius insequitur pauperem; comprehendantur in consiliis, quae cogitant.	2 In his pride the wicked hunts down the weak, who is caught in the schemes he devises.
3 Quoniam gloriatur peccator in desideriis animae suae, et avarus sibi benedicit.	3 The wicked is proud of his inmost desires, by his blasphemies the grasping spurns Yahweh,
4 NUN. Spernit Dominum peccator in arrogantia sua: “ Non requiret; non est Deus ”.	4 the wicked in his arrogance does not look very far; 'There is no God,' is his only thought.
5 Hae sunt omnes cogitationes eius; prosperantur viae illius in omni tempore. Excelsa nimis iudicia tua a facie eius; omnes inimicos suos aspernatur.	5 In al circumstances his step is assured; your judgements are above his head. His rivals? He scoffs atthem al .
6 Dixit enim in corde suo: “ Non movebor; in generationem et generationem ero sine malo ”.	6 He says in his heart, 'I shall never be shaken,' free of trouble himself,
7 PHE. Cuius maledictione os plenum est et fraudulentia et dolo, sub lingua eius labor et nequitia.	7 he wishes it on others. His speech is full of lies and browbeating, under his tongue lurk spite andwickedness.
8 Sedet in insidiis ad vicos, in occultis interficit innocentem.	8 In the undergrowth he lies in ambush, in his hiding-place he murders the innocent. He watches intentlyfor the downtrodden,
9 SADE. Oculi eius in pauperem respiciunt; insidiatur in abscondito quasi leo in spelunca sua. Insidiatur, ut rapiat pauperem; rapit pauperem, dum attrahit in laqueum suum.	9 lurking unseen like a lion in his lair, lurking to pounce on the poor; he pounces on him and drags himoff in his net.
10 Irruit et inclinat se, et miseri cadunt in fortitudine brachiorum eius.	10 He keeps watch, crouching down low, the poor wretch falls into his clutches;
11 Dixit enim in corde suo: “ Oblitus est Deus; avertit faciem suam, non videbit in finem ”. -	11 he says in his heart, 'God forgets, he has turned away his face to avoid seeing the end.'
12 COPH. Exsurge, Domine Deus, exalta manum tuam, ne obliviscaris pauperum.	12 Rise, Yahweh! God, raise your hand, do not forget the afflicted!
13 Propter quid spernit impius Deum? Dixit enim in corde suo: “ Non requires ”.	13 Why should the wicked spurn God, assuring himself you wil never follow it up?
14 RES. Vidisti: tu laborem et dolorem consideras, ut tradas eos in manus tuas. Tibi derelictus est pauper, orphano tu factus es adiutor.	14 You have seen for yourself the trouble and vexation, you watch so as to take it in hand. Theoppressed relies on you; you are the only recourse of the orphan.
15 SIN. Contere brachium peccatoris et maligni; quaeres peccatum illius et non invenies.	15 Break the arm of the wicked and evil, seek out wickedness til there is none left to be found.
16 Dominus rex in aeternum et in saeculum saeculi: perierunt gentes de terra illius.	16 Yahweh is king for ever and ever, the heathen has vanished from his country.
17 TAU. Desiderium pauperum exaudisti, Domine; confirmabis cor eorum, intendes aurem tuam	17 Yahweh, you listen to the laments of the poor, you give them courage, you grant them a hearing,
18 iudicare pupillo et humili, ut non apponat ultra inducere timorem homo de terra.	18 to give judgement for the orphaned and exploited, so that earthborn humans may strike terror nomore.
