Magistro chori. Psalmus. David. | 1 [For the choirmaster Psalm Of David] The heavens declare the glory of God, the vault of heavenproclaims his handiwork, |
Caeli enarrant gloriam Dei, et opera manuum eius annuntiat firmamentum. | 2 day discourses of it to day, night to night hands on the knowledge. |
Dies diei eructat verbum, et nox nocti indicat scientiam. | 3 No utterance at al , no speech, not a sound to be heard, |
Non sunt loquelae neque sermones, quorum non intellegantur voces: | 4 but from the entire earth the design stands out, this message reaches the whole world. High above, hepitched a tent for the sun, |
in omnem terram exivit sonus eorum, et in fines orbis terrae verba eorum. | 5 who comes forth from his pavilion like a bridegroom, delights like a champion in the course to be run. |
Soli posuit tabernaculum in eis, et ipse, tamquam sponsus procedens de thalamo suo, exsultavit ut gigas ad currendam viam. | 6 Rising on the one horizon he runs his circuit to the other, and nothing can escape his heat. |
A finibus caelorum egressio eius, et occursus eius usque ad fines eorum, nec est quod se abscondat a calore eius. | 7 The Law of Yahweh is perfect, refreshment to the soul; the decree of Yahweh is trustworthy, wisdomfor the simple. |
Lex Domini immaculata, reficiens animam, testimonium Domini fidele, sapientiam praestans parvulis. | 8 The precepts of Yahweh are honest, joy for the heart; the commandment of Yahweh is pure, light forthe eyes. |
Iustitiae Domini rectae, laetificantes corda, praeceptum Domini lucidum, illuminans oculos. | 9 The fear of Yahweh is pure, lasting for ever; the judgements of Yahweh are true, upright, every one, |
Timor Domini mundus, permanens in saeculum saeculi; iudicia Domini vera, iusta omnia simul, | 10 more desirable than gold, even than the finest gold; his words are sweeter than honey, that dripsfrom the comb. |
desiderabilia super aurum et lapidem pretiosum multum, et dulciora super mel et favum stillantem. | 11 Thus your servant is formed by them; observing them brings great reward. |
Etenim servus tuus eruditur in eis; in custodiendis illis retributio multa. | 12 But who can detect his own failings? Wash away my hidden faults. |
Errores quis intellegit? Ab occultis munda me | 13 And from pride preserve your servant, never let it be my master. So shal I be above reproach, freefrom grave sin. |
et a superbia custodi servum tuum, ne dominetur mei, Tunc immaculatus ero et emundabor a delicto maximo. | 14 May the words of my mouth always find favour, and the whispering of my heart, in your presence,Yahweh, my rock, my redeemer. |
Sint ut complaceant eloquia oris mei, et meditatio cordis mei in conspectu tuo. Domine, adiutor meus et redemptor meus. |
