NOVA VULGATANEW JERUSALEM
1 Magistro chori. Psalmus. David.
1 [For the choirmaster Psalm Of David] The heavens declare the glory of God, the vault of heavenproclaims his handiwork,
2 Caeli enarrant gloriam Dei,
et opera manuum eius annuntiat firmamentum.
2 day discourses of it to day, night to night hands on the knowledge.
3 Dies diei eructat verbum,
et nox nocti indicat scientiam.
3 No utterance at al , no speech, not a sound to be heard,
4 Non sunt loquelae neque sermones,
quorum non intellegantur voces:
4 but from the entire earth the design stands out, this message reaches the whole world. High above, hepitched a tent for the sun,
5 in omnem terram exivit sonus eorum,
et in fines orbis terrae verba eorum.
5 who comes forth from his pavilion like a bridegroom, delights like a champion in the course to be run.
6 Soli posuit tabernaculum in eis,
et ipse, tamquam sponsus procedens de thalamo suo,
exsultavit ut gigas ad currendam viam.
6 Rising on the one horizon he runs his circuit to the other, and nothing can escape his heat.
7 A finibus caelorum egressio eius,
et occursus eius usque ad fines eorum,
nec est quod se abscondat a calore eius.
7 The Law of Yahweh is perfect, refreshment to the soul; the decree of Yahweh is trustworthy, wisdomfor the simple.
8 Lex Domini immaculata, reficiens animam,
testimonium Domini fidele, sapientiam praestans parvulis.
8 The precepts of Yahweh are honest, joy for the heart; the commandment of Yahweh is pure, light forthe eyes.
9 Iustitiae Domini rectae, laetificantes corda,
praeceptum Domini lucidum, illuminans oculos.
9 The fear of Yahweh is pure, lasting for ever; the judgements of Yahweh are true, upright, every one,
10 Timor Domini mundus, permanens in saeculum saeculi;
iudicia Domini vera, iusta omnia simul,
10 more desirable than gold, even than the finest gold; his words are sweeter than honey, that dripsfrom the comb.
11 desiderabilia super aurum et lapidem pretiosum multum,
et dulciora super mel et favum stillantem.
11 Thus your servant is formed by them; observing them brings great reward.
12 Etenim servus tuus eruditur in eis;
in custodiendis illis retributio multa.
12 But who can detect his own failings? Wash away my hidden faults.
13 Errores quis intellegit?
Ab occultis munda me
13 And from pride preserve your servant, never let it be my master. So shal I be above reproach, freefrom grave sin.
14 et a superbia custodi servum tuum, ne dominetur mei,
Tunc immaculatus ero
et emundabor a delicto maximo.
14 May the words of my mouth always find favour, and the whispering of my heart, in your presence,Yahweh, my rock, my redeemer.
15 Sint ut complaceant eloquia oris mei,
et meditatio cordis mei in conspectu tuo.
Domine, adiutor meus et redemptor meus.
