1 Tutte queste cose l'occhio mio già le vide, e l'orecchio le ascoltò, e ad una ad una io le compresi.	1 Behold my eye hath seen all these things, and my ear hath heard them, and I have understood them all.
2 Quel che sapete voi io pur lo so, ne sono inferiore a voi.	2 According to your knowledge I also know: neither am I inferior to you.
3 Con tutto questo io parlerò all'Onnipotente, e con Dio bramo discorrerla:	3 But yet I will speak to the Almighty, and I desire to reason with God.
4 Facendo prima vedere come voi fabbri siete di menzogne, e sostenitori di false dottrine.	4 Having first shewn that you are forgers of lies, and maintainers of perverse opinions.
5 E piacesse a Dio, che steste in silenzio per farvi creder sapienti.	5 And I wish you would hold your peace, that you might be thought to be wise men..
6 Udite adunque la mia correzione, e ponete mente alla sentenza, che uscirà dalle mie labbra.	6 Hear ye therefore my reproof, and attend to the judgment of my lips.
7 Ha egli forse bisogno Iddio di vostre menzogne, onde per lui parliate con fraude?	7 Hath God any need of your lie, that you should speak deceitfully for him?
8 Forse volete prestargli favore? ovver tentate di patrocinar la causa di Dio?	8 Do you accept his person, and do you endeavour to judge for God?
9 Sarà egli ciò grato a lui, cui nulla può essere ascoso? o sarà egli deluso, come il sarebbe un uomo, da' vostri inganni?	9 Or shall it please him, from whom nothing can be concealed ? or shall he be deceived as a man, with your deceitful dealings ?
10 Egli stesso vi condannerà, perché occultamente cercate il suo favore.	10 He shall reprove you, because in secret you accept his person.
11 Tosto che egli si moverà vi porrà in iscompiglio, e co' suoi terrori vi scuoterà.	11 As soon as he shall move himself, he shall trouble you: and his dread shall fall upon you.
12 La vostra memoria sarà come cenere, si ridurranno in fango le vostre cervici.	12 Your remembrance shall be compared to ashes, and your necks shall be brought to clay.
13 Tacete un tantino, affinchè io dica tutto quello, che la mente mi suggerisca.	13 Hold your peace a little while, that I may speak whatsoever my mind shall suggest to me.
14 Per qual motivo mi straccio co' miei denti le carni, e l'anima mia porto nelle mie mani?	14 Why do I tear my flesh with my teeth, and carry my soul in my hands?
15 Quand'anche egli mi desse morte, in lui spererò; ma accuserò le opere mie dinanzi a lui.	15 Although he should bill me, I will trust in him: but yet I will reprove my ways in his sight.
16 Ed egli sarà mio Salvatore; perocché non comparirà dinanzi a lui verun degli ipocriti.	16 And he shall be my saviour: for no hypocrite shall come before his presence.
17 Ponete mente alle mie parole, e le orecchie porgete a' miei enimmi.	17 Hear ye my speech, and receive with Sour ears hidden truths.
18 Se sarò giudicato, io so, che sarò riconosciuto per giusto.	18 If I shall be judged, I know that I shall be found just.
19 Chi è che voglia venir con me in giudizio? venga pure. Perché mi consumo tacendo?	19 Who is he that will plead against me? let him come: why am I consumed holding my peace?
20 Sol due cose non fare a me (o Signore); e allora non mi nasconderò dalla tua faccia:	20 Two things only do not to me, and then from thy face I shall not be hid:
21 Ritira da me la tua mano, e non mi sbigottire co' tuoi terrori.	21 Withdraw thy hand far from me, and let not thy dread terrify me.
22 Interrogami, ed io risponderò; o permetti ch'io parli, e tu rispondimi.	22 Call me, and I will answer thee: or else I will speak, and do thou answer me.
23 Quante ho io iniquitadi, e peccati? fammi conoscere le mie scelleraggini, e i miei delitti.	23 How many are my iniquities and sins? make me know my crimes and offences.
24 Perché nascondi il tuo volto, e mi consideri per tuo nimico?	24 Why hidest thou thy face, and thinkest me thy enemy?
25 Contro una foglia, che il vento disperde dimostri la tua possanza, e ad una secca paglia fai guerra:	25 Against a leaf, that is carried away with the wind, thou shewest thy power, and thou pursuest a dry straw.
26 Perocché amare cose tu scrivi contro di me, e consunto mi vuoi pei peccati di mia adolescenza.	26 For thou writest bitter things against me, and wilt consume me for the sins of my youth.
27 Mi hai inceppati i piedi, hai notati tutti i miei andamenti, e hai posto mente a tutte le orme de' passi miei:	27 Thou hast put my feet in the stocks, and hast observed all my paths, and hast considered the steps of my feet:
28 Di me che debbo ridurmi in putredine, ed essere come una veste rosa dalle tignuole.	28 Who am to be consumed as rottenness, and as a garment that is moth-eaten.
