1 Canticum ascensionum. David. Nisi quia Dominus erat in nobis, dicat nunc Israel,	1 To thee have I lifted up my eyes, who dwellest in heaven.
2 nisi quia Dominus erat in nobis, cum exsurgerent homines in nos:	2 Behold as the eyes of the servants are on the hands of their masters, As the eyes of the handmaid are on the hands of her mistress: so are our eyes unto the Lord our God, until he have mercy on us.
3 forte vivos deglutissent nos, cum irasceretur furor eorum in nos.	3 Have mercy on us, O Lord, have mercy on us: for we are greatly filled with contempt.
4 Forsitan aqua absorbuisset nos, torrens pertransisset animam nostram;	4 For our soul is greatly filled: we are a reproach to the rich, and contempt to the proud.
5 forsitan pertransissent animam nostram aquae intumescentes.
6 Benedictus Dominus, qui non dedit nos in direptionem dentibus eorum.
7 Anima nostra sicut passer erepta est de laqueo venantium: laqueus contritus est, et nos erepti sumus.
8 Adiutorium nostrum in nomine Domini, qui fecit caelum et terram.
