1 Ma Giobbe rispose, e disse:	1 Then Job replied and said:
2 Dunque soli voi siete uomini, e con voi morrà la saggezza?	2 No doubt you are the intelligent folk, and with you wisdom shall die!
3 Io pure ho un cuore come voi, né a voi la cedo; perocché chi non sa queste cose, che voi sapete?	3 But I have intelligence as well as you; for who does not know such things as these?
4 Chi del proprio amico soffre, com'io, gli scherni, invochi Dio, ed egli lo esaudirà; perocché la semplicità del giusto è derisa.	4 I have become the sport of my neighbors: "The one whom God answers when he calls upon him, The just, the perfect man," is a laughing-stock;
5 Egli è una lampana di nissun pregio nel concetto dei ricchi, ma preparata pel tempo stabilito.	5 The undisturbed esteem my downfall a disgrace such as awaits unsteady feet;
6 Le tende de' ladroni nuotano nell'abbondanza, ed eglino audaci provocano Dio, mentre egli di tutte quelle cose gli ha fatti padroni.	6 Yet the tents of robbers are prosperous, and those who provoke God are secure.
7 Or tu interroga i giumenti, e ti insegneranno, gli uccelli dell'aria, e ti daranno lezione.	7 But now ask the beasts to teach you, and the birds of the air to tell you;
8 L'aria alla terra, ed ella ti risponderà, ed anche i pesci del mare ti istruiranno.	8 Or the reptiles on earth to instruct you, and the fish of the sea to inform you.
9 Chi non sa come tutte queste cose le fece la man del Signore?	9 Which of all these does not know that the hand of God has done this?
10 Egli ha in sua mano l'anima d'ogni vivente, e lo spirito di ogni uomo composto di carne.	10 In his hand is the soul of every living thing, and the life breath of all mankind.
11 Non è egli l'orecchio, che è giudice delle parole, come de' sapori il palato dell'uom che mangia?	11 Does not the ear judge words as the mouth tastes food?
12 Ne' vecchi sta la sapienza, e nella lunga età la prudenza.	12 So with old age is wisdom, and with length of days understanding.
13 In lui è la sapienza, e la fortezza, in lui il buon consiglio, e l'intelligenza.	13 With him are wisdom and might; his are counsel and understanding.
14 Se egli distrugge, nissuno edifica, se egli rinchiude un uomo nissuno gli aprirà.	14 If he breaks a thing down, there is no rebuilding; if he imprisons a man, there is no release.
15 Se ei rattiene le acque inaridisce ogni cosa, se scioglie ad esse il freno, sommergeranno la terra.	15 He holds back the waters and there is drought; he sends them forth and they overwhelm the land.
16 Con lui si sia la sapienza, e la fortezza, egli conosce l'ingannatore, e colui che è ingannato.	16 With him are strength and prudence; the misled and the misleaders are his.
17 Gli uomini di consiglio conduce a finire da insensati, e stolidi rende quelli, che amministrano la giustizia.	17 He sends counselors away barefoot, and of judges he makes fools.
18 Spoglia i regi del cingolo, e i loro fianchi lega con fune.	18 He loosens the bonds imposed by kings and leaves but a waistcloth to bind the king's own loins.
19 Privi di gloria ne mena i sacerdoti, e getta a terra i campioni:	19 and lets their never-failing waters flow away.
20 Cambia le parole in bocca agli uomini fidati, e a' vecchi toglie il sapere.	20 He silences the trusted adviser, and takes discretion from the aged.
21 Fa cadere il dispregio sopra de' principi, e rialza gli oppressi.	21 He breaks down the barriers of the streams
22 Ei rivela le cose sepolte nelle tenebre, e illumina l'ombra di morte.	22 The recesses of the darkness he discloses, and brings the gloom forth to the light.
23 Egli fa crescere le nazioni, e le stermina, e sterminate le ritorna nel primo stato.	23 He makes nations great and he destroys them; he spreads peoples abroad and he abandons them.
24 Egli cambia il cuore de' principi signori dei popoli della terra, e gli inganna, perché camminino inutilmente dove strada non è:	24 He takes understanding from the leaders of the land,
25 Anderanno tentoni come fosse di notte, e non di giorno, e farà che vadano errando come ubbriachi.	25 till they grope in the darkness without light; he makes them stagger like drunken men.
