BIBBIA RICCIOTTI	DOUAI-RHEIMS
1 - E continuò Giobbe, riprendendo la sua sentenza, e disse:	1 Job also added, taking up his parable, and said:
2 «Oh! se io potessi tornare come ai mesi di prima, come ai giorni in cui Dio mi custodiva!	2 Who will grant me, that I might be according to the months past, according to the days in which God kept me?
3 Allorchè splendeva la sua lucerna sul mio capo, e alla sua luce camminavo fra le tenebre!	3 When his lamp shined over my head, and I walked by his light in darkness?
4 Com'ero ai giorni di mia giovinezza, allorchè Dio segretamente stava nella mia tenda;	4 As I was in the days of my youth, when God was secretly in my tabernacle?
5 quando l'Onnipotente era meco, e attorno a me stavano i miei ragazzi;	5 When the Almighty was with me: and my servants round about me?
6 quando i miei piedi guazzavano nella pannae dal sasso scaturivano per me ruscelli d'olio;	6 When I washed my feet with butter, and the rock poured me out rivers of oil?
7 quando, incamminandomi verso la porta della città, mi preparavano il seggio sulla piazza!	7 When I went out to the gate of the city, and in the street they prepared me a chair?
8 Vedendomi, i giovani si nascondevano, i vecchi s'alzavano e rimanevano in piedi;	8 The young men saw me, and hid themselves: and the old men rose up and stood.
9 i maggiorenti cessavano di parlare, mettendosi il dito sulla bocca:	9 The princes ceased to speak, and laid the finger on their mouth.
10 i nobili ritenevano la lor voce, e la lor lingua s'attaccava al palato.	10 The rulers held their peace, and their tongue cleaved to their throat.
11 L'orecchio che udiva mi proclamava beato, e l'occhio che vedeva mi testimoniava [la lode];	11 The ear that heard me blessed me, and the eye that saw me gave witness to me:
12 giacchè io liberavo il povero che gridava [al soccorso], e l'orfano che non aveva difensore:	12 Because I had delivered the poor man that cried out; and the fatherless that had no helper.
13 la benedizione del pericolante veniva su di me, e al cuor della vedova porgevo io conforto;	13 The blessing of him that was ready to perish came upon me, and I comforted the heart of the widow.
14 di giustizia io m'ammantavo, e mi rivestivocome di manto e diadema del mio diritto.	14 I was clad with justice: and I clothed myself with my judgment, as with a robe and a diadem.
15 L'occhio io fui per il cieco, e il piede fui per lo storpio;	15 I was an eye to the blind, and a foot to the lame.
16 dei poveri ero io il padre, e la difesa di chi m'era ignoto io m'assumevo con zelo;	16 I was the father of the poor: and the cause which I knew not, I searched out most diligently.
17 spezzavo io le zanne del malvagio, e da' suoi denti cacciavo fuori la preda.	17 I broke the jaws of the wicked man, and out of his teeth I took away the prey.
18 E dicevo: - Nel mio niduccio io morirò, e come la palma moltiplicherò i miei giorni;	18 And I said: I shall die in my nest, and as a palm tree shall multiply my days.
19 La mia radice s'espande verso l'acque , e la rugiada dimora sui miei rami;	19 My root is opened beside the waters, and dew shall continue in my harvest.
20 la mia gloria sempre si rinnova, e l'arco mio in mia mano ringiovanisce! -	20 My glory shall always be renewed, and my bow in my hand shall be repaired.
21 Coloro che mi ascoltavano aspettavano la decisione, e tacevano intenti al mio consiglio;	21 They that heard me, waited for my sentence, and being attentive held their peace at my counsel.
22 dopo le mie parole non ardivano replicare, e su di essi cadeva a stille il mio discorso:	22 To my words they durst add nothing, and my speech dropped upon them.
23 aspettavano me come la pioggia, aprendo la loro bocca come [terreno] a pioggia tardiva.	23 They waited for me as for rain, and they opened their mouth as for a latter shower.
24 Se talvolta io sorridevo loro, ad essi non pareva vero, e lo splendore del mio volto non cadeva invano.	24 If at any time I laughed on them, they believed not, and the light of my countenance fell not on earth.
25 Quando gradivo andare da loro, mi assidevo per primo: e pur sedendo qual re in mezzo alle schiere, ero tuttavia consolatore degli afflitti.	25 If I had a mind to go to them, I sat first, and when I sat as a king, with his army standing about him, yet I was a comforter of them that mourned.
