1 Annunzio pesante contro il mare del deserto. Da un deserto, da un'orrida terra egli viene, come dall'Affrico vengono i turbini.	1 Oracle on the wastelands by the sea: Like whirlwinds sweeping in waves through the Negeb, there comes from the desert, from the fearful land,
2 Una dura visione è stata annunziata a me. L'incredulo opera da infedele, il saccheggiatore devasta. Mettiti in marcia, o Elam, poni l'assedio, o Medo. Io darò requie a tutti quelli, ch'ella facea sospirare.	2 A cruel sight, revealed to me: the traitor betrays, the despoiler spoils. "Go up, Elam; besiege, O Media; I will put an end to all groaning!"
3 Per questo son pieni di dolore, e gli affetti miei sono in affanno, quale è quello di una partoriente: mi sbigottii all'udire, fui atterrito al vedere.	3 Therefore my loins are filled with anguish, pangs have seized me like those of a woman in labor; I am too bewildered to hear, too dismayed to look.
4 Il cuor mi si strugge; l'orrore mi prende stupido. Babilonia la mia diletta è per me oggetto di sbalordimento.	4 My mind reels, shuddering assails me; My yearning for twilight has turned into dread.
5 Prepara la mensa: sta spiando da una vedetta: voi, che mangiate, e bevete, alzatevi, o principi, date di piglio allo scudo.	5 They set the table, spread out the rugs; they eat, they drink. Rise up, O princes, oil the shield!
6 Imperocché il Signore mi ha parlato così: Va, metti una sentinella, ed ella dia avvisso di tutto quel, che vedrà.	6 For thus says my Lord to me: Go, station a watchman, let him tell what he sees.
7 Ed ella vide una pariglia di due cavalieri, uno cavalcava un asino, altro cavalcava un cammello, e li contemplò attentamente per molto tempo.	7 If he sees a chariot, a pair of horses, Someone riding an ass, someone riding a camel, Then let him pay heed, very close heed.
8 E gridò qual lione: Io sto alla vedetta da parte del Signore: io vi sto continuamente di giorno, e io sto vegliando al mio posto le intere notti.	8 Then the watchman cried, "On the watchtower, O my Lord, I stand constantly by day; And I stay at my post through all the watches of the night.
9 Ecco, che viene la pariglia de cavalieri sulle loro cavalcature; e soggiunse, e disse: E caduta, è caduta Babilonia, e tutte le statue de suoi dei sono infrante sulla terra.	9 Here he comes now: a single chariot, a pair of horses; He calls out and says, 'Fallen, fallen is Babylon, And all the images of her gods are smashed to the ground.'"
10 Voi mia battitura, voi figli della aia mia, a voi ho io annunziato quello,che udii dal Signor degli eserciti, dal Dio d'Israele.	10 O my people who have been threshed, beaten on my threshing floor! What I have heard from the LORD of hosts, The God of Israel, I have announced to you.
11 Annunzio pesante contro Duma: Gridano a me da Seir: Sentinella, che è stato questa notte? sentinella, che è stato questa notte?	11 Oracle on Edom: They call to me from Seir, "Watchman, how much longer the night? Watchman, how much longer the night?"
12 La sentinella risponde: E' venuto il mattino, e la notte: se voi cercate, cercate, e di nuovo venite.	12 The watchman replies, "Morning has come, and again night. If you will ask, ask; come back again."
13 Annunzio pesante contro l'Arabia: Voi dormirete la sera nella boscaglia sulla strada di Dedanim.	13 Oracle on Arabia: In the thicket in the nomad country spend the night, O caravans of Dedanites.
14 Voi, che abitate dalla parte di mezzodì, andate incontro, portate acqua all'assetato, e andate incontro al fuggitivo, portando pane.	14 Meet the thirsty, bring them water; you who dwell in the land of Tema, greet the fugitives with bread.
15 Perocché fuggono il terror delle spade, il terrore della spade pendente, il terrore dell'arco teso, il terrore del duro combattimento:	15 They flee from the sword, from the whetted sword; From the taut bow, from the fury of battle.
16 Imperocché così dice a me il Signore: Ancor un anno, anno qual è quello di un bracciante, e sparirà tutta la gloria di Cedar.	16 For thus says the Lord to me: In another year, like those of a hireling, all the glory of Kedar shall come to an end.
17 E il numero, che resterà de forti arcieri di Cedar, sarà piccolo; perocché il Signore Dio d'Israele ha parlato.	17 Few of Kedar's stalwart archers shall remain, for the LORD, the God of Israel, has spoken.
