1 Ascolta adunque, o Giobbe, il mio ragionare, e pon mente a tutte le mie parole.	1 Wherefore, Job, I pray thee, hear my speeches, and hearken to all my words.
2 Apro adesso la mia bocca, la mia lingua articola le voci sotto del mio palato.	2 Behold, now I have opened my mouth, my tongue hath spoken in my mouth.
3 I miei parlari verranno da cuore schietto, e le mie labbra proferiranno sentimenti di verità.	3 My words shall be of the uprightness of my heart: and my lips shall utter knowledge clearly.
4 Lo spirito di Dio mi creò, e il soffio dell'Onnipotente mi diede la vita.	4 The Spirit of God hath made me, and the breath of the Almighty hath given me life.
5 Rispondimi se potrai, e contraddicimi in faccia.	5 If thou canst answer me, set thy words in order before me, stand up.
6 Tu vedi, che me come te fece Dio, e che io pure fui formato del medesimo fango.	6 Behold, I am according to thy wish in God's stead: I also am formed out of the clay.
7 Ma i miei prodigj non ti recheranno terrore, né ti sbalordirà la mia eloquenza.	7 Behold, my terror shall not make thee afraid, neither shall my hand be heavy upon thee.
8 Tu adunque di mia sentita dicesti, e il suono di queste parole fu udito da me:	8 Surely thou hast spoken in mine hearing, and I have heard the voice of thy words, saying,
9 Mondo son io, e senza reato; immacolato, e scevro di iniquità.	9 I am clean without transgression, I am innocent; neither is there iniquity in me.
10 Perché ha trovate querele contro di me, per questo mi ha riguardata come suo nimico.	10 Behold, he findeth occasions against me, he counteth me for his enemy,
11 Ha posti ne' ceppi i miei piedi ha osservati tutti i miei andamenti.	11 He putteth my feet in the stocks, he marketh all my paths.
12 In questo adunque tu non se' stato giusto: io ti risponderò, che Dio è più grande dell'uomo.	12 Behold, in this thou art not just: I will answer thee, that God is greater than man.
13 Con lui tu vieni a contesa, perché egli non ha risposto a tutte le tue parole?	13 Why dost thou strive against him? for he giveth not account of any of his matters.
14 Dio parla una volta, e la stessa cosa non ripete due volte.	14 For God speaketh once, yea twice, yet man perceiveth it not.
15 In sogno, con notturne visioni, quando gli uomini vinti dal sonno riposano ne' loro letti,	15 In a dream, in a vision of the night, when deep sleep falleth upon men, in slumberings upon the bed;
16 Allora egli apre agli uomini le orecchie, e gli istruisce, e li corregge,	16 Then he openeth the ears of men, and sealeth their instruction,
17 Per ritrar l'uomo da quel ch'ei fa, e liberarlo dalla superbia:	17 That he may withdraw man from his purpose, and hide pride from man.
18 Salvando l'anima di lui dalla corruzione, e la sua vita dal taglio della spada.	18 He keepeth back his soul from the pit, and his life from perishing by the sword.
19 Egli parimente lo corregge nel letto co' dolori, e fa marcir le sue ossa.	19 He is chastened also with pain upon his bed, and the multitude of his bones with strong pain:
20 In questo suo stato egli ha in orrore il pane, e il cibo una volta si grato al suo appetito.	20 So that his life abhorreth bread, and his soul dainty meat.
21 La carne di lui si va consumando, e le ossa prima ascose rimangono scoperte.	21 His flesh is consumed away, that it cannot be seen; and his bones that were not seen stick out.
22 Egli si avvicina alla corruzione, e la sua vita da tutti i segni di morte.	22 Yea, his soul draweth near unto the grave, and his life to the destroyers.
23 Se uno delle migliaia di Angeli per lui parlerà, e lo istruirà de' doveri dell'uomo,	23 If there be a messenger with him, an interpreter, one among a thousand, to shew unto man his uprightness:
24 Egli avrà compassione di lui, e dirà: Salvalo dal cadere nella corru zione: ho trovato motivo onde averne pietà.	24 Then he is gracious unto him, and saith, Deliver him from going down to the pit: I have found a ransom.
25 La sua carne è stata consunta dai malori: ch'ei ritorni come ne' giorni di sua giovinezza.	25 His flesh shall be fresher than a child's: he shall return to the days of his youth:
26 Egli porgerà a Dio sue preghiere; e questi con lui si placherà, è con lieta faccia lo mirerà, e renderà all'uomo la sua giustizia.	26 He shall pray unto God, and he will be favourable unto him: and he shall see his face with joy: for he will render unto man his righteousness.
27 E rivolto agli uomini dirà egli: Io peccai, e prevaricai veramente, e non fui punito com'io meritava.	27 He looketh upon men, and if any say, I have sinned, and perverted that which was right, and it profited me not;
28 Egli ha liberata l'anima sua dal cader nella morte, e viverà, e goderà della luce:	28 He will deliver his soul from going into the pit, and his life shall see the light.
29 Così Dio tutte queste cose fa per tre volte con ciascheduno:	29 Lo, all these things worketh God oftentimes with man,
30 Per richiamare le anime loro dalla corruzione, e rischiararle colla luce de' viventi.	30 To bring back his soul from the pit, to be enlightened with the light of the living.
31 Pon mente, o Giobbe, e ascoltami, e taci mentre io parlo.	31 Mark well, O Job, hearken unto me: hold thy peace, and I will speak.
32 Che se qualche cosa hai da dire rispondimi, e parla; perocché io desidero, che tu comparisca giusto.	32 If thou hast any thing to say, answer me: speak, for I desire to justify thee.
33 Ma se non hai nulla, ascoltami: taci, e ti insegnerò la saggezza.	33 If not, hearken unto me: hold thy peace, and I shall teach thee wisdom.
