1 Giobbe rispose, e disse:	1 Then Job answered by saying:
2 Anche adesso le mie parole sono parole di amarezza, e la mano, che mi ha piagato è più forte de' miei sospiri.	2 Now again my conversation is in bitterness, and the force of my scourging weighs more heavily on me because of my mourning.
3 Chi mi darà di saper ritrovarlo, e di giungere fino al suo trono?	3 Who will grant me that I might know and find him, and that I may approach even to his throne?
4 Porterei dinanzi a lui la mia causa, e la bocca piena avrei di querele.	4 I would place judgment before his eye, and my mouth would fill with criticism,
5 Affin di sapere quel, ch'ei mi rispondesse, e di intendere quel, ch'ei mi dicesse.	5 so that I may know the words that he will answer me and understand what he will say to me.
6 Non vorrei, che egli meco contendesse colla sua molta fortezza, né che mi sopraffacesse colla mole di sua grandezza.	6 I do not want him to contend with me with much strength, nor to overwhelm me with the bulk of his greatness.
7 Proponga contro di me l'equità, e vincitore uscirei dal mio giudizio.	7 Let him show fairness in response to me, and let my judgment reach to victory.
8 Ma se io vo verso Oriente, ei non comparisce; se verso Occidente, non saprò rinvenirlo.	8 If I go to the east, he does not appear; if I go to the west, I will not understand him.
9 Se mi volgo a sinistra che farò io? non posso raggiungerlo; e se a destra, io nol vedrò.	9 If I turn to the left, what can I do? I will not take hold of him. If I turn myself to the right, I will not see him.
10 A lui però noti sono i miei andamenti, ed egli ha fatto saggio di me, come si fa dell'oro, che passa pel fuoco.	10 Truly, he knows my way and has tested me like gold that passes through fire.
11 Il mio piede ha seguitato le sue vestigia, ho battute le sue vie, né ho declinato da queste.	11 My feet have been following his footsteps; I have kept to his way and have not strayed from it.
12 Non mi son dilungato dai precetti delle sue labbra, e nel mio seno ho riposte le parole della sua bocca.	12 I have not withdrawn from the commands of his lips, and the words of his mouth I have hidden in my sinews.
13 Ma egli solo è, e nissuno può frastornare i suoi disegni, e quello che alla volontà di lui è piaciuto egli lo ha fatto.	13 For he is alone, and no one is able to disturb his intention; and whatever his spirit wills, that he accomplishes.
14 Quand'egli avrà fatto di me quello, che ha voluto, molte altre simili cose ha in pronto tutt'ora.	14 And when he fulfills his will in me, many other similar ones will also be present with him.
15 Per questo alla sua presenza io mi conturbo, e quand'io lo considero, mi scuote il timore.	15 And, for this reason, I have been troubled at his presence, and, when I consider him, I am approached by fear.
16 Dio ha ammollito il mio cuore, e l'Onnipotente mi ha conturbato.	16 God has weakened my heart, and the Almighty has confused me.
17 Perocché io vengo meno non per le tenebre, che mi stan sopra; né questa caligine mi ha velata la faccia.	17 Yet I have not perished because of the threatening darkness, nor has gloom covered my face.
