1 Giobbe rispose, e disse:	1 Again Job answered and said:
2 Anche adesso le mie parole sono parole di amarezza, e la mano, che mi ha piagato è più forte de' miei sospiri.	2 Though I know my complaint is bitter, his hand is heavy upon me in my groanings.
3 Chi mi darà di saper ritrovarlo, e di giungere fino al suo trono?	3 Oh, that today I might find him, that I might come to his judgment seat!
4 Porterei dinanzi a lui la mia causa, e la bocca piena avrei di querele.	4 I would set out my cause before him, and fill my mouth with arguments;
5 Affin di sapere quel, ch'ei mi rispondesse, e di intendere quel, ch'ei mi dicesse.	5 I would learn the words with which he would answer, and understand what he would reply to me.
6 Non vorrei, che egli meco contendesse colla sua molta fortezza, né che mi sopraffacesse colla mole di sua grandezza.	6 Even should he contend against me with his great power, yet, would that he himself might heed me!
7 Proponga contro di me l'equità, e vincitore uscirei dal mio giudizio.	7 There the upright man might reason with him, and I should once and for all preserve my rights.
8 Ma se io vo verso Oriente, ei non comparisce; se verso Occidente, non saprò rinvenirlo.	8 But if I go to the east, he is not there; or to the west, I cannot perceive him;
9 Se mi volgo a sinistra che farò io? non posso raggiungerlo; e se a destra, io nol vedrò.	9 Where the north enfolds him, I behold him not; by the south he is veiled, and I see him not.
10 A lui però noti sono i miei andamenti, ed egli ha fatto saggio di me, come si fa dell'oro, che passa pel fuoco.	10 Yet he knows my way; if he proved me, I should come forth as gold.
11 Il mio piede ha seguitato le sue vestigia, ho battute le sue vie, né ho declinato da queste.	11 My foot has always walked in his steps; his way I have kept and have not turned aside.
12 Non mi son dilungato dai precetti delle sue labbra, e nel mio seno ho riposte le parole della sua bocca.	12 From the commands of his lips I have not departed; the words of his mouth I have treasured in my heart.
13 Ma egli solo è, e nissuno può frastornare i suoi disegni, e quello che alla volontà di lui è piaciuto egli lo ha fatto.	13 But he had decided, and who can say him nay? What he desires, that he does.
14 Quand'egli avrà fatto di me quello, che ha voluto, molte altre simili cose ha in pronto tutt'ora.	14 For he will carry out what is appointed for me; and many such things may yet be in his mind.
15 Per questo alla sua presenza io mi conturbo, e quand'io lo considero, mi scuote il timore.	15 Therefore am I dismayed before him; when I take thought, I fear him.
16 Dio ha ammollito il mio cuore, e l'Onnipotente mi ha conturbato.	16 Indeed God has made my courage fail; the Almighty has put me in dismay.
17 Perocché io vengo meno non per le tenebre, che mi stan sopra; né questa caligine mi ha velata la faccia.	17 Yes, would that I had vanished in darkness, and that thick gloom were before me to conceal me.
