1 Indi Eliu seguitò a dire:	1 Elihu went on speaking. He said:
2 Soffrimi ancor un poco, ed io mi spiegherò con te: perocché ho tutt'ora da dire per la causa di Dio.	2 Be patient a little longer while I explain, for I have more to say on God's behalf.
3 Ripiglierò da' suoi principj la mia sentenza, e proverò, che giusto è il mio Creatore.	3 I shal range far afield for my arguments to prove my Maker just.
4 Perocché veraci, e senza menzogna sono i miei detti, e una dottrina, che è perfetta, a te piacerà.	4 I guarantee, nothing I shal say wil be untrue: you have a man of sound learning here.
5 Dio non rigetta i potenti, essendo pur egli il Potente.	5 God does not reject anyone whose heart is pure
6 Ma non salva gli empj, e a' poveri rende ragione.	6 or let the sinner live on in al his power. He does accord fair judgement to the afflicted;
7 Non torcerà i suoi sguardi dal giusto: egli è che colloca sopra trono stabile i regi, ed eglino sono esaltati.	7 he does uphold what the upright deserve. When he raises kings to thrones, if they grow proud of theirunending rule,
8 E se poi saran messi in catena, o annodati da' lacci di povertà,	8 then he fetters them with chains, they are caught in the bonds of affliction.
9 Egli ad essi accennerà le opere loro, e le loro scelleratezze, perocché ei furon crudeli.	9 He shows them the import of their deeds, of the sins of pride they have committed.
10 Aprirà loro le orecchie adiri di correggerli, e gli ammonirà, perché si ritraggano dall'iniquità.	10 In their ears he sounds a warning, ordering them to turn back from doing wrong.
11 Se ascolteranno, e saranno docili, finiranno i giorni loro felicemente, e gli anni in gloria:	11 If they take notice and obey him, the rest of their days are prosperous and the years pass pleasantly.
12 Ma se non ascolteranno, urteran nella spada, e periranno nella stoltezza.	12 If not, they go down the Canal and perish in their stupidity.
13 Gli ipocriti, e i furbi provocan l'ira di Dio, e ridotti in catene non alzan la voce a lui.	13 The stubborn, who cherish their anger and do not cry for help when he chains them,
14 Moriranno di morte violenta, e la loro vita finirà tragli uomini impuri.	14 die in the bloom of youth or live among the male prostitutes of the temple.
15 Egli trarrà fuori d'angustia il povero, e nella tribolazione lo istruirà.	15 But God saves the afflicted by his affliction, warning him in his misery.

19 Umilia senza la sferza la tua grandezza, e tutti quelli, che si fanno forti in lor possanza.	19 Take the powerful to law, not merely the penniless, those whose arm is strong, not merely the weak.
20 Non allungare la notte (in pensando), come ne' loro paesi alcuni popoli vanno di bene in meglio.	20 Do not crush people you do not know to instal your relations in their place.
21 Guardati dal torcere il passo verso l'iniquità; perocché questa cominciasti a seguire dopo la tua afflizione.	21 Avoid any tendency to wrong-doing, for this is why affliction is testing you now.
22 Rifletti come Dio è eccelso in sua possanza, e nissun de' legislatori è simile a lui.	22 See, God is sublime in his strength and who can teach lessons as he does?
23 Chi potrà indagar le sue vie? E chi potrà dire a lui, Tu hai fatto ingiustizia?	23 Who has even told him which course to take, or dared to say to him, 'You have done wrong'?
24 Ricordati che tu l'opera di lui non comprendi, che fu celebrata dagli uomini.	24 Consider, rather, how you may praise his work, a theme that many have sung.
25 Gli uomini tutti lo veggono, ciascuno lo mira da lungi.	25 This is something that everyone can see, gazing, as we do, from afar.
26 Certamente Iddio è grande, e sorpassa ogni nostro sapere: e il numero degli anni di lui non può rinvenirsi.	26 Yes, the greatness of God exceeds our knowledge, the number of his years is past counting.
27 Egli attrae le stille dell'acqua, e versa le piogge come torrenti,	27 It is he who makes the raindrops smal and pulverises the rain into mist.
28 Che si sciolgono dalle nuvole, onde tutto lassù è coperto.	28 And the clouds then pour this out, sending it streaming down on the human race.
29 Quando egli vuole distende le nuvole, come suo padiglione,	29 And who can fathom how he spreads the clouds, or why such crashes thunder from his tent?
30 E folgori manda, e i suoi lampi di colassù, e cuopre gli estremi lidi del mare.	30 He spreads a mist before him and covers the tops of the mountains.
31 Per mezzo di tali cose egli esercita i suoi giudizj sopra le genti, e al gran numero degli uomini da nutrimento.	31 By these means, he sustains the peoples, giving them plenty to eat.
32 Nelle sue mani nasconde la luce, e le comanda di tornare di nuovo.	32 He gathers up the lightning in his hands, assigning it the mark where to strike.
33 Egli fa intendere a chi lo ama, ch'ell' è suo dominio, e che a quella ei può pervenire.	33 His crashing gives warning of its coming, anger flashes out against iniquity.
