Giobbe 34

BIBBIA MARTINI	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Ricomincio adunque Elia, e soggiunse:	1 Elihu continued his speech. He said:
2 Voi sapienti ascoltate le mie parole: voi prudenti prestatemi attenzione:	2 And now, you sages, listen to what I say, lend me your ears, you learned men.
3 Perocché l'orecchio giudica dei discorsi, come il palato discerne i cibi.	3 The ear distinguishes the value of what is said, just as the palate can tel one food from another.
4 Discutiamo noi in comune la causa, e vediamo tra noi quello, che sia più vero.	4 Let us consider together God's ruling and decide what we all mean by good.
5 Giobbe disse: Io son giusto, ma Dio ha sovvertita la mia causa.	5 Job has been saying, 'I am upright and God denies me fair judgement.
6 Imperocché nel giudizio che è stato fatto di me è corso errore: violenta è la mia piaga, senza alcun mio peccato.	6 My judge is treating me cruel y, my wound is incurable, for no fault of mine.'
7 Qual'è l'uomo simile a Giobbe, che tien lo schernire come un bere dell'acqua?	7 Can anyone else exist like Job, who laps up mockery like water,
8 Il quale si associa con que' che commetton l'iniquità, e batte la via degli empj?	8 who consorts with evil-doers and marches in step with the wicked?
9 Perocché egli ha detto: Non sarà l'uomo accetto a Dio per quanto nelle vie di lui egli corra.	9 Did he not say, 'No one derives any benefit from enjoying the society of God'?
10 Per la qual cosa voi, uomini saggi, ascoltatemi: lungi da Dio l'empietà, e dall'Onnipotente la ingiustizia.	10 Listen to me then, like intel igent people. Far be evil from God or injustice from Shaddai!
11 Perocché egli renderà all'uomo secondo le sue azioni, e farà che tocchi a ciascuno quello, che ha meritato.	11 For he pays people back for what they do, treating each as his own conduct deserves.
12 Perocché vero si è, che Dio non condanna senza ragione, e l'Onnipotente non giudica a torto.	12 Be sure of it: God never does wrong, Shaddai does not pervert what is just.
13 Ha egli cedute le sue veci ad un altro sopra la terra? ed a chi ha egli dato a reggere il mondo ch'ei fabbricò?	13 Did someone else entrust the world to his care was he given charge of the universe by someoneelse?
14 Se col cuore irato egli a lui si volgesse, lo spirito, e il soffio di lui a se ritrarrebbe.	14 If he were to recal his spirit, to concentrate his breath back in himself,
15 Verrebber meno tatti gli uomini di carne, e ritornerebbero in cenere.	15 all flesh would instantly perish and al people would return to dust.
16 Se tu adunque non se' privo d'intelletto, ascolta quel che si dice, e pon mente alle mie parole.	16 If you have any intel igence, listen to this, lend your ear to the sound of my words.
17 Può egli esser capace di guarigione colui, che non ama la giustizia? e come mai condanni tu in tal guisa colui, che è il giusto?	17 Could an enemy of fair judgement ever govern? Would you dare condemn the Upright One, theAlmighty,
18 Colui che condanna come apostati i regi, e i grandi come empj:	18 who says to a king, 'You are a scoundrel!' and to nobles, 'You are wicked!',
19 Colui che non ha riguardo all'essere de principi, né fece conto de' tiranni quando disputavano contro de' poveri: perocché opera delle mani di lui son tutti quanti.	19 who is unimpressed by princes and makes no distinction between rich and poor, since al alike havebeen made by him?
20 Ei di repente morranno, e nel mezzo della notte saran conturbati i popoli, ed eglino, passeranno, e saran rapiti i crudeli senz'opera d'uomo.	20 They die suddenly, at dead of night, they perish -- these great ones -- and disappear: it costs him noeffort to remove a tyrant.
21 Perocché gli occhi tien egli attenti agli andamenti degli uomini, ed esamina tutti i lor passi.	21 For his eyes keep watch on human ways, and he observes every step.
22 Né il buio, né l'ombra di morte è bastante a nascondere quelli, che operano l'iniquità.	22 No darkness, no shadow dark as death where wrong-doers can hide!
23 Perocché non è in potere dell'uomo il venir di nuovo in giudizio dinanzi a Dio.	23 He serves no writ on anyone, no summons to appear before God's court:
24 Egli ne atterra molti, anzi innumerabili, ed altri sostituisce ne' posti loro.	24 he breaks the powerful without enquiry and sets up others in their places.
25 Perocché egli conosce le opere loro, e per questo fa venire la notte, ond'ei sono distrutti.	25 He knows the sort of things they do! He overthrows them at night, to be trampled on.
26 Li percosse come empj in luogo di gran concorso.	26 He beats them like criminals chained up for al to see,
27 Perché eglino quasi preso partito si allontanarpn da lui, e non vollero saper nulla di tutte le vie di lui:	27 since they have turned their backs on him, having understood so little of his ways
28 Talmente che fino a lui fecer giungere i clamori dei meschini, e gli fecero udire le voci de' poveri.	28 as to make the cries of the weak rise to him and let him hear the appeal of the afflicted.
29 Conciossiaché quand'ei da ad alcuno la pace, chi è che lo condanni? tosto che egli nasconde il suo volto, chi è che in viso lo guardi? Cosi sarà delle genti, e di tutti gli uomini.	29 But if he is stil silent and no one can move him, if he veils his face, so that no one can see him, he istaking pity on nations and individuals,
30 Egli è, che ad un ipocrita da il regno a motivo de' peccati del popolo.	30 is setting some wrong-doer free from the meshes of affliction.
31 Or giacché io ho parlato per Iddio non impedirò che tu ancora parli.	31 When such a one says to God, 'I was misled, I shal not do wrong any more;
32 Se io ho errato correggimi in: se ho parlato male, non dirò più altro.	32 although I have sinned, instruct me; although I did wrong, I will not do it again,'
33 Forse che Dio ne domanderà conto a te, se la mia parola ti spiace? Tu però fosti il primo a parlare, e non io: e se qualche cosa tu sai di meglio, tu parla.	33 in your opinion, should he punish such a one -- you who have rejected his decisions? This is for youto decide -- not for me!- so kindly enlighten us!
34 Parlino a me gli uomini intelligenti, e l'uomo saggio mi ascolti.	34 Ordinary sensible people, however, wil say to me, and so wil any sage who has been listening tome,
35 Ma Giobbe stoltamente ha pa lato, e le parole di lui non suonano buona dottrina.	35 'Job's words are spoken without any knowledge, what he says shows no intel igence.
36 Padre mio, sia tenuto Giobbe alla prova sino alla fine: non lasciar di percuotere un uomo iniquo.	36 Kindly examine him thoroughly, since his answers imply that he is a criminal.
37 Perché egli la bestemmia aggiunge all'altre sue colpe: frattanto mettiamolo noi alle strette, e di poi ne' suoi discorsi chiami egli Dio in giudizio.	37 For to his sin he now adds rebellion, bringing law to an end among us and heaping abuse on God.'
