1 Ricomincio adunque Elia, e soggiunse:	1 And Eliu continued his discourse, and said :
2 Voi sapienti ascoltate le mie parole: voi prudenti prestatemi attenzione:	2 Hear ye, wise men, my words, and ye learned, hearken to me :
3 Perocché l'orecchio giudica dei discorsi, come il palato discerne i cibi.	3 For the ear trieth words, and the mouth discerneth meats by the taste.
4 Discutiamo noi in comune la causa, e vediamo tra noi quello, che sia più vero.	4 Let us choose to us judgment, and let us see among ourselves what is the best.
5 Giobbe disse: Io son giusto, ma Dio ha sovvertita la mia causa.	5 For Job hath said : I am just, and God hath overthrown my judgment.
6 Imperocché nel giudizio che è stato fatto di me è corso errore: violenta è la mia piaga, senza alcun mio peccato.	6 For in judging me there is a lie : my arrow is violent without any sin.
7 Qual'è l'uomo simile a Giobbe, che tien lo schernire come un bere dell'acqua?	7 What man is there like Job, who drinketh up scorning like water?
8 Il quale si associa con que' che commetton l'iniquità, e batte la via degli empj?	8 Who goeth in company with them that work iniquity, and walketh with wicked men?
9 Perocché egli ha detto: Non sarà l'uomo accetto a Dio per quanto nelle vie di lui egli corra.	9 For he hath said : Man shall not please God, although he run with him.
10 Per la qual cosa voi, uomini saggi, ascoltatemi: lungi da Dio l'empietà, e dall'Onnipotente la ingiustizia.	10 Therefore, ye men of understanding, hear me : far from god be wickedness, and iniquity from the Almighty.
11 Perocché egli renderà all'uomo secondo le sue azioni, e farà che tocchi a ciascuno quello, che ha meritato.	11 For he will render to a man his work, and according to the ways of every one he will reward them.
12 Perocché vero si è, che Dio non condanna senza ragione, e l'Onnipotente non giudica a torto.	12 For in very deed God will not condemn without cause, neither will the Almighty pervert judgment.
13 Ha egli cedute le sue veci ad un altro sopra la terra? ed a chi ha egli dato a reggere il mondo ch'ei fabbricò?	13 What other hath he appointed over the earth? or whom hath he set over the world which he made?
14 Se col cuore irato egli a lui si volgesse, lo spirito, e il soffio di lui a se ritrarrebbe.	14 If he turn his heart to him, he shall draw his spirit and breath unto himself.
15 Verrebber meno tatti gli uomini di carne, e ritornerebbero in cenere.	15 All flesh shall perish together, and man shall return into ashes.
16 Se tu adunque non se' privo d'intelletto, ascolta quel che si dice, e pon mente alle mie parole.	16 If then thou hast understanding, hear what is said, and hearken to the voice of my words.
17 Può egli esser capace di guarigione colui, che non ama la giustizia? e come mai condanni tu in tal guisa colui, che è il giusto?	17 Can he be healed that loveth not judgment? and how dost thou so far condemn him that is just?
18 Colui che condanna come apostati i regi, e i grandi come empj:	18 Who saith to the king : Thou art an apostate : who calleth rulers ungodly?
19 Colui che non ha riguardo all'essere de principi, né fece conto de' tiranni quando disputavano contro de' poveri: perocché opera delle mani di lui son tutti quanti.	19 Who accepteth not the persons of princes : nor hath regarded the tyrant, when he contended against the poor man : for all are the work of his hands.
20 Ei di repente morranno, e nel mezzo della notte saran conturbati i popoli, ed eglino, passeranno, e saran rapiti i crudeli senz'opera d'uomo.	20 They shall suddenly die, and the people shall be troubled at midnight, and they shall pass, and take away the violent without hand.
21 Perocché gli occhi tien egli attenti agli andamenti degli uomini, ed esamina tutti i lor passi.	21 For his eyes are upon the ways of men, and he considereth all their steps.
22 Né il buio, né l'ombra di morte è bastante a nascondere quelli, che operano l'iniquità.	22 There is no darkness, and there is no shadow of death, where they may be hid who work iniquity.
23 Perocché non è in potere dell'uomo il venir di nuovo in giudizio dinanzi a Dio.	23 For it is no longer in the power of man to enter into judgment with God.
24 Egli ne atterra molti, anzi innumerabili, ed altri sostituisce ne' posti loro.	24 He shall break in pieces many and innumerable, and shall make others to stand in their stead.
25 Perocché egli conosce le opere loro, e per questo fa venire la notte, ond'ei sono distrutti.	25 For he knoweth their works : and therefore he shall bring night on them, and they shall be destroyed.
26 Li percosse come empj in luogo di gran concorso.	26 He hath struck them, as being wicked, in open sight.
27 Perché eglino quasi preso partito si allontanarpn da lui, e non vollero saper nulla di tutte le vie di lui:	27 Who as it were on purpose have revolted from him, and would not understand all his ways :
28 Talmente che fino a lui fecer giungere i clamori dei meschini, e gli fecero udire le voci de' poveri.	28 So that they caused the cry of the needy to come to him, and he heard the voice of the poor.
29 Conciossiaché quand'ei da ad alcuno la pace, chi è che lo condanni? tosto che egli nasconde il suo volto, chi è che in viso lo guardi? Cosi sarà delle genti, e di tutti gli uomini.	29 For when he granteth peace, who is there that can condemn? When he hideth his countenance, who is there that can behold him, whether it regard nations, or all men?
30 Egli è, che ad un ipocrita da il regno a motivo de' peccati del popolo.	30 Who maketh a man that is a hypocrite to reign for the sins of the people?
31 Or giacché io ho parlato per Iddio non impedirò che tu ancora parli.	31 Seeing then I have spoken of God, I will not hinder thee in thy turn.
32 Se io ho errato correggimi in: se ho parlato male, non dirò più altro.	32 If I have erred, teach thou me : if I have spoken iniquity, I will add no more.
33 Forse che Dio ne domanderà conto a te, se la mia parola ti spiace? Tu però fosti il primo a parlare, e non io: e se qualche cosa tu sai di meglio, tu parla.	33 Doth God require it of thee, because it hath displeased thee? for thou begannest to speak, and not I. : but if thou know any thing better, speak.
34 Parlino a me gli uomini intelligenti, e l'uomo saggio mi ascolti.	34 Let men of understanding speak to me, and let a wise man hearken to me.
35 Ma Giobbe stoltamente ha pa lato, e le parole di lui non suonano buona dottrina.	35 But Job hath spoken foolishly, and his words sound not discipline.
36 Padre mio, sia tenuto Giobbe alla prova sino alla fine: non lasciar di percuotere un uomo iniquo.	36 My father, let Job be tried even to the end : cease not from the man of iniquity.
37 Perché egli la bestemmia aggiunge all'altre sue colpe: frattanto mettiamolo noi alle strette, e di poi ne' suoi discorsi chiami egli Dio in giudizio.	37 Because he addeth blasphemy upon his sins, let him be tied fast in the mean time amongst us : and then let him provoke God to judgment with his speeches.
