BIBBIA MARTINI	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Ma Giobbe rispose, e disse:	1 Job spoke next. He said:
2 Ho udite sovente tali cose: voi siete tutti consolatoli molesti:	2 How often have I heard al this before! What sorry comforters you are!
3 Non avrann' eglino fine i discorsi ampollosi? che costa a te il parlare?	3 'When wil these windy arguments be over?' or again, 'What sickness drives you to defend yourself?'
4 Potrei anch' io parlar come voi: e foste pur voi ne' miei piedi:	4 Oh yes! I too could talk as you do, if you were in my place; I could overwhelm you with speeches,shaking my head over you,
5 Vi consolerei anch'io a parole, e piegherei la mia testa sopra di voi:	5 and speak words of encouragement, and then have no more to say.
6 Vi farei cuore co' miei discorsi, e regolerei le mie labbra colla compassione verso di voi.	6 When I speak, my suffering does not stop; if I say nothing, is it in any way reduced?
7 Ma or che farò? Se io parlerò non si accheterà il mio dolore, e se starò in silenzio egli non andrà lungi da me.	7 And now it is driving me to distraction; you have struck my whole acquaintanceship with horror,
8 Ma adesso il dolor mio m' ha oppresso, e tutti i miei membri sono scompaginati.	8 now it rounds on me, my slanderer has now turned witness, he appears against me, accusing me faceto face;

11 Hanno aperte le loro bocche contro di me, e mi han percosso obbrobriosamente nella guancia; si son satollati delle mie pene.	11 Yes, God has handed me over to the godless, and cast me into the hands of the wicked.

17 La mia faccia è gonfia dal pianto, e la caligine ingombra le mie pupille.	17 Nonetheless, my hands are free of violence, and my prayer is pure.
18 Queste cose ho sofferte, benché inique non fossero le opere mie, e pure offerissi a Dio le preghiere.	18 Cover not my blood, O earth, and let my cry mount without cease!
19 Terra, non ricoprire il mio sangue, non restino nascose in te le mie strida.	19 Henceforth I have a witness in heaven, my defender is there on high.
20 Perocché lassù in cielo è il mio testimone, e nell'alto si sta colui, che mi conosce intimamente.	20 Interpreter of my thoughts there with God, before whom flow my tears,
21 I miei amici sono verbosi; a Dio spandono lagrime gli occhi miei.	21 let my anguish plead the cause of a man at grips with God, just as a man might defend his fel ow.
22 E fosse egli pure il giudizio tra Dio, e l'uomo come il giudizio di un figliuolo dell'uomo col suo compagno.	22 For the years of my life are numbered, and I am leaving by the road of no return.
23 Perocché già passano i corti anni, ed io batto una strada, per cui non ritornerò.
