BIBBIA RICCIOTTI	CATHOLIC PUBLIC DOMAIN
1 la saviezza dell'umile ne solleverà il capo, e lo farà sedere in mezzo ai grandi. Non giudicare dalle apparenze nè con leggerezza.	1 The wisdom of one who is humble will exalt his head, and will cause him to sit down in the midst of great men.
2 Non lodare uno per la sua bellezza, nè ributtar alcuno per il suo aspetto.	2 You should not praise a man for his beauty, and you should not despise a man for his appearances.
3 Piccola tra i volatili è l'ape, e il suo frutto ha il primato della dolcezza. Non ti gloriar mai delle vesti, e non t'esaltare nel giorno del tuo splendore. Perchè mirabili son le opere del solo Altissimo,	3 The bee is small among flying things, but its fruit holds the summit of sweetness.
4 gloriose e nascoste e invisibili le sue opere.	4 You should not glory in clothing at any time, and you should not let yourself be extolled in the day of your honor. For the works of the Most High alone are wondrous; and glorious and hidden and unseen are his works.
5 Molti principi sederono In terra, e tale a cui niuno pensava portò il diadema.	5 Many tyrants have sat upon a throne, and one whom no one would admire has worn a diadem.
6 Molti potenti furono fortemente oppressi e uomini illustri furon dati in mano altrui.	6 Many powerful men have been powerfully cast down, and the illustrious have been handed over into the hands of others.
7 Prima d'informarti non biasimar nessuno, e informatoti, rimprovera con giustizia.	7 Before you inquire, you should not place blame on anyone; and when you have inquired, reprove justly.
8 Prima d'aver ascoltato non risponder parole, e nel mezzo de' discorsi non t'intromettere a parlare.	8 Before you listen, you should not respond a word; and you should not interrupt in the middle of a discourse.
9 Per cosa che non ti dà noia, non leticare, e quando i peccatori tengon giudizio, non ti seder con [loro].	9 You should not contend in a matter which does not concern you, and you should not sit in judgment together with sinners.
10 Figliuolo, non perder in molte cose la tua attività, perchè se sarai ricco [di cure] non andrai esente da colpa. Se invero terrai dietro [a troppe cose], non le raggiungerai, e, spintoti innanzi, non te ne trarrai più fuori.	10 Son, you should not be involved in many matters. And if you become rich, you will not be free from transgression. For if you pursue, you will not apprehend; and if you run ahead, you will not escape.
11 C'è ohi lavora e s'affretta e si travaglia da empio, e tanto più soffre penuria.	11 There is an impious man who labors and hurries and grieves, but all the more will he be without abundance.
12 E c'è chi è sfinito e bisognoso d'aiuto, mancante di forze e abbondante di miseria;	12 There is a debilitated man in need of recovery, who is lacking in strength and abundant in poverty.
13 ma l'occhio dei Signore si posa su lui a [suo] bene, e lo solleva dalla sua umiliazione, e rialza il suo capo, e l'ammiran molti, e ne glorificano Iddio.	13 Yet the eye of God has looked with favor upon him for his benefit, and he has lifted him up from his humiliation, and he has exalted his head. And many have wondered at him, and they have honored God.
14 Beni e mali, vita e morte, povertà e ricchezza vengon dal Signore.	14 Good things and misfortune, life and death, poverty and wealth, are from God.
15 La sapienza e l'istruzione e la scienza delle Leggi son presso Dio: la carità e la condotta de' buoni son presso di lui.	15 Wisdom, and discipline, and knowledge of the law are with God. Love and the ways of good things are with him.
16 L'errore e le tenebre furon create insieme con i peccatori, e quel che si compiacciono del male, nel male invecchiano.	16 Error and darkness have been created by sinners. And those who exult in evil, grow old in evil.
17 Il dono del Signore rimane ai giusti, e il suo favore li farà prosperare mal sempre.	17 The gift of God remains with the just man, and his advancement will have success unto eternity.
18 C'è chi arricchisce a forza di [oculatezza e di] parsimonia, e la sua parte di guadagno è questa,	18 There is one who is enriched by spending sparingly, and this is the extent of his reward.
19 ch'egli può dire: « Ho trovato il riposo, e mangerò ora del mio da solo ».	19 About this, he says: “I have found rest for myself, and now I alone will eat from my goods.”
20 Ma non sa quanto tempo ci sia ancora perchè s'avvicini la morte, ed ei lasci tutto ad altri e muoia!	20 But he does not know how much time will pass before death approaches, and then he must leave everything behind to others and die.
21 sta fermo nel tuo patto [col Signore] e vivi conforme ad esso, e nella pratica de' tuoi doveri invecchia.	21 Stand fast in your covenant, and become familiar with it, and grow old in the work of your commandments.
22 Non ti meravigliare degli affari de' peccatori; ma confida nel Signore e persevera nel tuo lavoro.	22 You should not spend time in the works of sinners. Instead, trust in God and remain in your own place.
23 Perchè è facile agli occhi di Dio arricchire il povero a un tratto.	23 For it is easy, in the eyes of God, to make a pauper suddenly rich.
24 La benedizione del Signore s'affretta a premiare il giusto, e in ora brev'ora fa fruttificare i suoi passi.	24 The blessing of God hurries to reward the just man, and in a fleeting hour his advancement bears fruit.
25 Non dire: «Che bisogno ho io? e qual bene potrò avere ormai? ».	25 You should not say: “What do I need?” or, “What good will there be for me in this?”
26 Non dire: « Ho abbastanza, e che può accedermi ormai di male? ».	26 You should not say: “I have enough for myself,” or, “What could be worse than this?”
27 Nel giorno de' beni non ti scordar de' mali, e nel giorno de' mali non ti scordar de' beni.	27 In a day of good things, you should not be forgetful of misfortunes. And in a day of misfortunes, you should not be forgetful of good things.
28 Perchè è facile al Signore, nel giorno della morte, rendere a ciascuno secondo i suoi portamenti.	28 For it is easy, in the sight of God, on the day of one’s passing, to repay each one according to his ways.
29 Il male d'un'ora fa dimenticare le più grandi delizie, e nella fine dell'uomo [s'ha] la rivelazione delle sue opere.	29 The affliction of an hour causes one to forget great delights, and in the end of a man is the uncovering of his works.
30 Prima della morte non proclamar felice nessun uomo, perchè ne' suoi figli si riconosce l'uomo.	30 You should not praise any man before death. For a man is known by his children.
31 Non introdurre chiunque in casa tua, perchè molte sono le insidie del fraudolento.	31 You should not bring every man into your house. For many are the snares of the deceitful.
32 Come invero erutta lo stomaco de' fetidi, e come la pernice è attratta nella gabbia e la capra nel laccio, cosi [è], il cuore de' superbi, e a mo' d'un esploratore adocchia la caduta del suo prossimo.	32 For as a stomach with a bad smell vomits, and as a partridge is led into a cage, and like a deer led into a snare, so also is the heart of the arrogant. And it is like a bystander watching his neighbor fall.
33 Convertendo il bene in male, egli tende insidie, e alle cose più nobili imprime una macchia.	33 For it lies in ambush, and then turns good into evil, and it will place the blame on the elect.
34 Da una sola scintilla divampa gran fuoco, e per l'opera d'un solo fraudolento s'accresce la strage: il peccatore sta in agguato del sangue.	34 From one spark, a great fire grows; and from one deceitful man, much blood flows. But a very sinful man lies in ambush for blood.
35 Guardati dal furfante, perché egli macchina il male; onde non abbia a riversar su te vituperio per sempre.	35 Pay close attention to yourself before a harmful man, for he fabricates evils. Otherwise, he may lead over you a whispered reproach unceasingly.
36 Ricevi presso di te uno straniero, e ti soppianterà con le turbolenze, e straniero ti renderà ai tuoi stessi [di casa],	36 Receive a stranger to yourself, and he will overthrow you with a whirlwind, and he will alienate you from what is your very own.
