VULGATANEW JERUSALEM
1 Ipsi David. Judica, Domine, nocentes me ;
expugna impugnantes me.
1 [Of David, when he had feigned insanity before Abimelech, and Abimelech sent him away] I wil blessYahweh at al times, his praise continual y on my lips.
2 Apprehende arma et scutum,
et exsurge in adjutorium mihi.
2 I will praise Yahweh from my heart; let the humble hear and rejoice.
3 Effunde frameam, et conclude adversus eos qui persequuntur me ;
dic animæ meæ : Salus tua ego sum.
3 Proclaim with me the greatness of Yahweh, let us acclaim his name together.
4 Confundantur et revereantur quærentes animam meam ;
avertantur retrorsum et confundantur cogitantes mihi mala.
4 I seek Yahweh and he answers me, frees me from al my fears.
5 Fiant tamquam pulvis ante faciem venti,
et angelus Domini coarctans eos.
5 Fix your gaze on Yahweh and your face wil grow bright, you wil never hang your head in shame.
6 Fiat via illorum tenebræ et lubricum,
et angelus Domini persequens eos.
6 A pauper calls out and Yahweh hears, saves him from all his troubles.
7 Quoniam gratis absconderunt mihi interitum laquei sui ; supervacue exprobraverunt animam meam.
7 The angel of Yahweh encamps around those who fear him, and rescues them.
8 Veniat illi laqueus quem ignorat,
et captio quam abscondit apprehendat eum,
et in laqueum cadat in ipsum.
8 Taste and see that Yahweh is good. How blessed are those who take refuge in him.
9 Anima autem mea exsultabit in Domino,
et delectabitur super salutari suo.
9 Fear Yahweh, you his holy ones; those who fear him lack for nothing.
10 Omnia ossa mea dicent :
Domine, quis similis tibi ?
eripiens inopem de manu fortiorum ejus ;
egenum et pauperem a diripientibus eum.
10 Young lions may go needy and hungry, but those who seek Yahweh lack nothing good.
11 Surgentes testes iniqui,
quæ ignorabam interrogabant me.
11 Come, my children, listen to me, I wil teach you the fear of Yahweh.
12 Retribuebant mihi mala pro bonis,
sterilitatem animæ meæ.
12 Who among you delights in life, longs for time to enjoy prosperity?
13 Ego autem, cum mihi molesti essent, induebar cilicio ;
humiliabam in jejunio animam meam,
et oratio mea in sinu meo convertetur.
13 Guard your tongue from evil, your lips from any breath of deceit.
14 Quasi proximum et quasi fratrem nostrum sic complacebam ;
quasi lugens et contristatus sic humiliabar.
14 Turn away from evil and do good, seek peace and pursue it.
15 Et adversum me lætati sunt, et convenerunt ;
congregata sunt super me flagella, et ignoravi.
15 The eyes of Yahweh are on the upright, his ear turned to their cry.
16 Dissipati sunt, nec compuncti ;
tentaverunt me, subsannaverunt me subsannatione ;
frenduerunt super me dentibus suis.
16 But Yahweh's face is set against those who do evil, to cut off the memory of them from the earth.
17 Domine, quando respicies ?
Restitue animam meam a malignitate eorum ;
a leonibus unicam meam.
17 They cry in anguish and Yahweh hears, and rescues them from al their troubles.
18 Confitebor tibi in ecclesia magna ; in populo gravi laudabo te.
18 Yahweh is near to the broken-hearted, he helps those whose spirit is crushed.
19 Non supergaudeant mihi qui adversantur mihi inique,
qui oderunt me gratis, et annuunt oculis.
19 Though hardships without number beset the upright, Yahweh brings rescue from them all.
20 Quoniam mihi quidem pacifice loquebantur ;
et in iracundia terræ loquentes, dolos cogitabant.
20 Yahweh takes care of all their bones, not one of them wil be broken.
21 Et dilataverunt super me os suum ;
dixerunt : Euge, euge ! viderunt oculi nostri.
21 But to the wicked evil brings death, those who hate the upright wil pay the penalty.
22 Vidisti, Domine : ne sileas ;
Domine, ne discedas a me.
22 Yahweh ransoms the lives of those who serve him, and there wil be no penalty for those who takerefuge in him.
23 Exsurge et intende judicio meo, Deus meus ;
et Dominus meus, in causam meam.
24 Judica me secundum justitiam tuam, Domine Deus meus,
et non supergaudeant mihi.
25 Non dicant in cordibus suis : Euge, euge, animæ nostræ ;
nec dicant : Devoravimus eum.
26 Erubescant et revereantur simul qui gratulantur malis meis ;
induantur confusione et reverentia qui magna loquuntur super me.
27 Exsultent et lætentur qui volunt justitiam meam ;
et dicant semper : Magnificetur Dominus, qui volunt pacem servi ejus.
28 Et lingua mea meditabitur justitiam tuam ;
tota die laudem tuam.
