BIBBIA RICCIOTTI	NEW JERUSALEM
1 - Proseguendo poi Eliu, disse:	1 Elihu went on speaking. He said:
2 «Aspettami un poco e ti ammaestrerò, giacchè ho ancora altre cose da dire in favor di Dio.	2 Be patient a little longer while I explain, for I have more to say on God's behalf.
3 Riprenderò le mie cognizioni da principio, e proverò che il mio creatore è giusto:	3 I shal range far afield for my arguments to prove my Maker just.
4 poichè certamente senza menzogna sono i miei detti, e una scienza perfetta ti piacerà.	4 I guarantee, nothing I shal say wil be untrue: you have a man of sound learning here.
5 Dio non rigetta i potenti, essendo egli pure potente;	5 God does not reject anyone whose heart is pure
6 ma gli empii egli non salva, e ai poverelli accorda il diritto:	6 or let the sinner live on in al his power. He does accord fair judgement to the afflicted;
7 non distoglie dal giusto gli occhi suoiegli che pone i re sul trono in perpetuo, sì che vengano esaltati.	7 he does uphold what the upright deserve. When he raises kings to thrones, if they grow proud of theirunending rule,
8 Ma se sono avvinti in catene, e astretti dai legami della miseria,	8 then he fetters them with chains, they are caught in the bonds of affliction.
9 allora egli mostra ad essi il loro agire, e i loro delitti, quanto furon crudeli:	9 He shows them the import of their deeds, of the sins of pride they have committed.
10 apre ancora il loro orecchio all'ammonizione, ed esorta che si convertano dal male.	10 In their ears he sounds a warning, ordering them to turn back from doing wrong.
11 Se ascoltano e si sottomettono, finiscono i loro giorni nella felicitàe gli anni loro nella gloria;	11 If they take notice and obey him, the rest of their days are prosperous and the years pass pleasantly.
12 se invece non ascoltano, saranno passati a fil di spada, e periranno nella stoltezza.	12 If not, they go down the Canal and perish in their stupidity.
13 Gl'ipocriti e gli astuti provocano l'ira di Dio, e non innalzano grida quando egli l'incatena;	13 The stubborn, who cherish their anger and do not cry for help when he chains them,
14 morirà precocemente l'anima loro, e la loro vita finirà fra gl'impuri.	14 die in the bloom of youth or live among the male prostitutes of the temple.
15 Egli salva il povero dalla sua angustia, e ammonisce il suo orecchio per mezzo della tribolazione.	15 But God saves the afflicted by his affliction, warning him in his misery.
16 Perciò egli ti salverà dalle fauci della distretta; l'ampiezza e non la strettezza sarà il tuo luogo, e riposerai alla tua mensa ricolma di grasse vivande.	16 You, too, he would like to snatch from torment. While you were enjoying boundless abundance, withrich food piled high on your table,
17 La causa tua è stata giudicata come di empio, e riceverai [su te] la causa e la sentenza.	17 you did not bring the wicked to trial and did not give fair judgement to the orphan.
18 Non ti vinca dunque l'ira, sì che tu opprima qualcuno, nè i molti donativi ti faccian declinare.	18 Beware of being led astray by abundance, of being corrupted by expensive presents.
19 Sorge forse il tuo grido senza l'angustia, e senza tutti gli strapazzi della violenza?	19 Take the powerful to law, not merely the penniless, those whose arm is strong, not merely the weak.
20 Non potrarre la notte....affinchè ascendano i popoli per essi.	20 Do not crush people you do not know to instal your relations in their place.
21 Bada dal piegare verso l'iniquità, poichè questa tu cominciasti a seguire dopo l'afflizione.	21 Avoid any tendency to wrong-doing, for this is why affliction is testing you now.
22 Ecco Dio è eccelso nella sua fortezza, e nessuno è a lui somigliante fra i legislatori.	22 See, God is sublime in his strength and who can teach lessons as he does?
23 Chi potrà scrutare le sue vie? o chi potrà dirgli: - Hai operato cosa iniqua? -	23 Who has even told him which course to take, or dared to say to him, 'You have done wrong'?
24 Ricordati di magnificare l'operato di lui, che gli uomini celebrano in canto.	24 Consider, rather, how you may praise his work, a theme that many have sung.
25 Tutti gli uomini lo vedono, ciascuno lo scorge da lontano.	25 This is something that everyone can see, gazing, as we do, from afar.
26 Ecco, Dio è grande, vince la nostra scienza, il numero degli anni suoi non si computa.	26 Yes, the greatness of God exceeds our knowledge, the number of his years is past counting.
27 Egli distacca le gocce della pioggia, ed effonde le piogge a guisa di torrenti:	27 It is he who makes the raindrops smal and pulverises the rain into mist.
28 le quali profluiscono dalle nubi, che ricoprono ogni cosa al disopra.	28 And the clouds then pour this out, sending it streaming down on the human race.
29 Se egli vuole estendere le nubi, quale suo padiglione,	29 And who can fathom how he spreads the clouds, or why such crashes thunder from his tent?
30 e far brillare la sua luce al disopra, pur le radici del mare egli ricopre.	30 He spreads a mist before him and covers the tops of the mountains.
31 Per mezzo di tali cose egli giudica i popoli, e appresta cibo a numerose genti.	31 By these means, he sustains the peoples, giving them plenty to eat.
32 Nelle sue mani egli asconde la luce, e le comanda di tornar di nuovo;	32 He gathers up the lightning in his hands, assigning it the mark where to strike.
33 di lui dà annunzio il suo tuono, [di lui] che effonde l'ira sua sull'iniquità.	33 His crashing gives warning of its coming, anger flashes out against iniquity.
