1 - Proseguendo poi Eliu, disse:	1 Elihu proceeded further and said:
2 «Aspettami un poco e ti ammaestrerò, giacchè ho ancora altre cose da dire in favor di Dio.	2 Wait yet a little and I will instruct you, for there are still words to be said on God's behalf.
3 Riprenderò le mie cognizioni da principio, e proverò che il mio creatore è giusto:	3 I will bring my knowledge from afar, and to my Maker I will accord the right.
4 poichè certamente senza menzogna sono i miei detti, e una scienza perfetta ti piacerà.	4 For indeed, my theme cannot fail me: the one perfect in knowledge I set before you.
5 Dio non rigetta i potenti, essendo egli pure potente;	5 Behold, God rejects the obstinate in heart; he preserves not the life of the wicked.
6 ma gli empii egli non salva, e ai poverelli accorda il diritto:	6 He withholds not the just man's rights, but grants vindication to the oppressed,
7 non distoglie dal giusto gli occhi suoiegli che pone i re sul trono in perpetuo, sì che vengano esaltati.	7 And with kings upon thrones he sets them, exalted forever.
8 Ma se sono avvinti in catene, e astretti dai legami della miseria,	8 Or if they are bound with fetters and held fast by bonds of affliction,
9 allora egli mostra ad essi il loro agire, e i loro delitti, quanto furon crudeli:	9 Then he makes known to them what they have done and their sins of boastful pride.
10 apre ancora il loro orecchio all'ammonizione, ed esorta che si convertano dal male.	10 He opens their ears to correction and exhorts them to turn back from evil.
11 Se ascoltano e si sottomettono, finiscono i loro giorni nella felicitàe gli anni loro nella gloria;	11 If they obey and serve him, they spend their days in prosperity, their years in happiness.
12 se invece non ascoltano, saranno passati a fil di spada, e periranno nella stoltezza.	12 But if they obey not, they perish; they die for lack of knowledge.
13 Gl'ipocriti e gli astuti provocano l'ira di Dio, e non innalzano grida quando egli l'incatena;	13 The impious in heart lay up anger for themselves; they cry not for help when he enchains them;
14 morirà precocemente l'anima loro, e la loro vita finirà fra gl'impuri.	14 Therefore they expire in youth, and perish among the reprobate.
15 Egli salva il povero dalla sua angustia, e ammonisce il suo orecchio per mezzo della tribolazione.	15 But he saves the unfortunate through their affliction, and instructs them through distress.
16 Perciò egli ti salverà dalle fauci della distretta; l'ampiezza e non la strettezza sarà il tuo luogo, e riposerai alla tua mensa ricolma di grasse vivande.
17 La causa tua è stata giudicata come di empio, e riceverai [su te] la causa e la sentenza.
18 Non ti vinca dunque l'ira, sì che tu opprima qualcuno, nè i molti donativi ti faccian declinare.
19 Sorge forse il tuo grido senza l'angustia, e senza tutti gli strapazzi della violenza?
20 Non potrarre la notte....affinchè ascendano i popoli per essi.	20
21 Bada dal piegare verso l'iniquità, poichè questa tu cominciasti a seguire dopo l'afflizione.	21 Take heed, turn not to evil; for you have preferred carousal to affliction.
22 Ecco Dio è eccelso nella sua fortezza, e nessuno è a lui somigliante fra i legislatori.	22 Behold, God is sublime in his power. What teacher is there like him?
23 Chi potrà scrutare le sue vie? o chi potrà dirgli: - Hai operato cosa iniqua? -	23 Who prescribes for him his conduct, or who can say, "You have done wrong"?
24 Ricordati di magnificare l'operato di lui, che gli uomini celebrano in canto.	24 Remember, you should extol his work, which men have praised in song.
25 Tutti gli uomini lo vedono, ciascuno lo scorge da lontano.	25 All men contemplate it; man beholds it from afar.
26 Ecco, Dio è grande, vince la nostra scienza, il numero degli anni suoi non si computa.	26 Lo, God is great beyond our knowledge; the number of his years is past searching out.
27 Egli distacca le gocce della pioggia, ed effonde le piogge a guisa di torrenti:	27 He holds in check the waterdrops that filter in rain through his mists,
28 le quali profluiscono dalle nubi, che ricoprono ogni cosa al disopra.	28 Till the skies run with them and the showers rain down on mankind.
29 Se egli vuole estendere le nubi, quale suo padiglione,
30 e far brillare la sua luce al disopra, pur le radici del mare egli ricopre.	30 Lo! he spreads the clouds in layers as the carpeting of his tent.
31 Per mezzo di tali cose egli giudica i popoli, e appresta cibo a numerose genti.	31 For by these he nourishes the nations, and gives them food in abundance.
32 Nelle sue mani egli asconde la luce, e le comanda di tornar di nuovo;	32 In his hands he holds the lightning, and he commands it to strike the mark.
33 di lui dà annunzio il suo tuono, [di lui] che effonde l'ira sua sull'iniquità.	33 His thunder speaks for him and incites the fury of the storm.
