Giobbe 11

BIBBIA RICCIOTTI	CATHOLIC PUBLIC DOMAIN
1 - Prese allora a parlare Sofar il Naamatita e disse:	1 But Zophar the Naamathite, responding, said:
2 «O che, colui che molto parla non dovrà pure ascoltare? ovvero l'uomo di molte parole avrà ragione?	2 Will he who speaks much, not also listen? Or will a talkative man be justified?
3 Tu solo ridurrai al silenzio gli uomini? e dopo scherniti gli altri, da nessuno sarai svergognato?	3 Will men be silent only for you? And when you have mocked others, will no one refute you?
4 Tu invero hai detto: - La mia dottrina è pura, e mondo io sono al tuo cospetto! -	4 For you said: “My word is pure, and I am clean in your sight.”
5 Invece, oh! se Dio volesse parlar teco, ed aprir le sue labbra [a ragionar] con te,	5 Yet I wish that God would speak with you, and would open his lips to you,
6 sì da manifestarti i segreti della sapienza, e come sia molteplice la sua norma! Comprenderesti allora che egli ti richiede molto menodi quanto meriterebbe la tua iniquità	6 so that he might reveal to you the secrets of wisdom, and how intricate his law is, and that you would understand how much less he requires of you than your iniquity deserves.
7 capirai tu forse i procedimenti di Dio, e fino alla perfezione dell'Onnipotente giungerai?	7 By chance, will you comprehend the footsteps of God and reach all the way to the perfection of the Almighty?
8 Egli è il più eccelso del cielo - tu che puoi fare?è più profondo degl'inferi - tu come puoi conoscere?	8 He is higher than heaven, and what will you do? He is deeper than hell, but how will you know?
9 Più esteso della terra è per misura, più largo è del mare!	9 His measure is longer than the earth and wider than the sea.
10 Se sconvolge ogni cosa, o tutto insieme costringe, chi potrà a lui opporsi?	10 If he overturns all things, or packs them together, who will contradict him?
11 Egli infatti conosce la vanità degli uomini, e scorgendo il male, non farà attenzione?	11 For he knows the vanity of men, and when he sees iniquity, does he not evaluate it?
12 L'uomo insensato si leva in superbia, e qual giovane onagro si stima nato indipendente.	12 A vain man is lifted up in arrogance, and he thinks that he is born free like a wild ass’s colt.
13 Ma [se] tu rendi stabile il cuor tuo, e distendi verso lui le tue mani;	13 But you have fortified your heart and extended your hands to him.
14 se rimuovi da te l'iniquità che è in mano tua, e l'ingiustizia non alberghi nella tua tenda:	14 If you would send away from you the iniquity that is in your hand, and not let injustice remain in your tabernacle,
15 allora potrai sollevare il tuo volto senza macchia, sarai ben fondato e non temerai;	15 then you would be able to lift up your face without blemish, and you would be steadfast and unafraid.
16 pur della miseria tu ti scorderai, e come d'acqua passata te ne ricorderai.	16 Misery, likewise, you would forget, or would remember only like waters that have passed by.
17 Un fulgore come a mezzodì spunterà per te sulla sera, e quando ti crederai distrutto sorgerai come stella del mattino.	17 And brightness, like that of midday, will rise upon you until evening, and when you would think yourself consumed, you will rise up like the morning star.
18 Ti sentirai fiducioso per la speranza che hai dinanzi, e ispezionata [la tua abitazione], dormirai tranquillo:	18 And, when hope has been set before you, you will have faith, and, when buried, you will sleep secure.
19 riposerai, nè alcuno ti incuterà spavento. Molti alla tua presenza renderanno omaggio,	19 You will rest, and there will be nothing to make you afraid, and many will make requests before your face.
20 mentre gli occhi degli empii verranno meno; verrà loro a mancare ogni scampo, e loro speranza sarà abominio d'anima.»	20 But the eyes of the impious will fade away, and the path to escape will perish before them, for the abomination of the soul is their hope.
