Siracide 18

BIBBIA RICCIOTTI	NEW AMERICAN BIBLE
1 Colui che vive in eterno creò insieme tutte le cose. Il Signore solo è giusto, e sussiste invitto re in eterno.	1 The Eternal is the judge of all things without exception; the LORD alone is just.
2 Chi è da tanto da raccontarne le opere?	2 Whom has he made equal to describing his works, and who can probe his mighty deeds?
3 chi può scrutare le sue magnificenze?	3 Who can measure his majestic power, or exhaust the tale of his mercies?
4 Chi esprimerà la potenza della sua grandezza? e chi potrà ridire la sua misericordia?	4 One cannot lessen, nor increase, nor penetrate the wonders of the LORD.
5 Nulla c'è da togliere, nulla da aggiungere; nè è possibile penetrare i portenti di Dio.	5 When a man ends he is only beginning, and when he stops he is still bewildered.
6 Quando l'uomo avrà finito [di cercare], sarà [appena] al principio, e quando avrà cessato, si troverà stordito.	6 What is man, of what worth is he? the good, the evil in him, what are these?
7 Cos'è l'uomo e a che serve? che cos'è il bene di lui e che il suo male?	7 The sum of a man's days is great if it reaches a hundred years:
8 Il numero de' giorni dell'uomo, a dir molto, è di cento anni: come una goccia d'acqua del mare e un granello d'arena, così pochi son gli anni nel giorno dell'eternità!	8 Like a drop of sea water, like a grain of sand, so are these few years among the days of eternity.
9 Perciò il Signore è paziente con gli uomini, ed effonde su loro la sua misericordia.	9 That is why the LORD is patient with men and showers upon them his mercy.
10 Egli vede la presunzione del loro cuore ch'è cattiva, e conosce la loro rovina ch'è triste;	10 He sees and understands that their death is grievous, and so he forgives them all the more.
11 perciò abbonda con essi in indulgenza, e mostra loro la via della giustizia.	11 Man may be merciful to his fellow man, but the LORD'S mercy reaches all flesh,
12 La pietà dell'uomo è verso il suo vicino; ma la misericordia del Signore [si stende] a ogni carne.	12 Reproving, admonishing, teaching, as a shepherd guides his flock;
13 E compatisce, ammaestra, corregge, [riconduce] come un pastore il suo gregge.	13 Merciful to those who accept his guidance, who are diligent in his precepts.
14 Ha pietà di chi accetta la correzione della [sua] misericordia, e di chi è sollecito ne' suoi precetti.	14 My son, to your charity add no reproach, nor spoil any gift by harsh words.
15 Figliuolo, ne' benefizi [che fai] non infligger vituperio, e in un dono qualsiasi non dar tristezza con male parole.	15 Like dew that abates a burning wind, so does a word improve a gift.
16 La rugiada non smorza forse l'ardore [del vento d'Oriente]? così la parola vai meglio del dono.	16 Sometimes the word means more than the gift; both are offered by a kindly man.
17 Ecco, non è forse una parola amichevole da più d'un buon dono? or l'una or l'altro si ritrovan presso l'uomo dabbene.	17 Only a fool upbraids before giving; a grudging gift wears out the expectant eyes.
18 Lo stolto brutalmente offende, e il dono del malevolo fa strugger gli occhi.	18 Be informed before speaking; before sickness prepare the cure.
19 Prima di giudicare, fatti provvista di giudizio; prima di parlare impara.	19 Before you are judged, seek merit for yourself, and at the time of visitation you will have a ransom.
20 Prima della malattia curati, e prima del giudizio esamina te stesso, e al cospetto di Dio troverai propiziazione.	20 Before you have fallen, humble yourself; when you have sinned, show repentance.
21 Prima d'ammalarti umiliati, e nel tempo dell'infermità mostra la tua [buona] condotta,	21 Delay not to forsake sins, neglect it not till you are in distress.
22 Nulla ti trattenga dal pregar sempre, nè ti peritare di accrescere la tua giustizia sino alla morte, perchè la ricompensa di Dio dura in eterno.	22 Let nothing prevent the prompt payment of your vows; wait not to fulfill them when you are dying.
23 Prima della preghiera disponi l'anima tua, e non essere come uno che tenta Iddio.	23 Before making a vow have the means to fulfill it; be not one who tries the LORD.
24 Ricordati dell'ira [divina] nel dì finale, e del tempo della retribuzione, quando Egli volterà in là la faccia.	24 Think of wrath and the day of death, the time of vengeance when he will hide his face.
25 Ricordati della penuria nel tempo dell'abbondanza, e degli stenti della miseria ne' giorni della ricchezza.	25 Remember the time of hunger in the time of plenty, poverty and want in the day of wealth.
26 Dalla mattina alla sera si muta il tempo; e tutto, così, rapidamente si cambia al cospetto di Dio.	26 Between morning and evening the weather changes; before the LORD all things are fleeting.
27 L'uomo saggio va cauto in ogni cosa, e ne' giorni de' peccati si guarda da' falli.	27 A wise man is circumspect in all things; when sin is rife he keeps himself from wrongdoing.
28 Ogni intelligente riconosce la sapienza, e a chi l'ha trovata rende omaggio.	28 Any learned man should make wisdom known, and he who attains to her should declare her praise;
29 Gl'intenditori di [saggi] detti, son savi essi stessi, e comprendono la verità e la giustizia, e spandono quasi pioggia proverbi e sentenze.	29 Those trained in her words must show their wisdom, dispensing sound proverbs like life-giving waters.
30 Non andar dietro alle tue passioni, e allontanati dalle tue voglie.	30 Go not after your lusts, but keep your desires in check.
31 Se accorderai all'anima tua le sue passioni, farà di te il ludibrio de' tuoi nemici.	31 If you satisfy your lustful appetites they will make you the sport of your enemies.
32 Non prender gusto ai disordini, per piccoli che siano, perchè continuamente In essi si commette [del male].	32 Have no joy in the pleasures of a moment which bring on poverty redoubled;
33 Non t'impoverire per gare [di lusso e stravizi], prendendo a prestito, quando nulla hai nella borsa: perchè vorresti male alla tua propria vita.	33 Become not a glutton and a winebibber with nothing in your purse.
