BIBBIA MARTINI	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Queste son le parole della lettera mandata da Geremia profeta a quelli, che eran rimasi seniori de' fuor usciti, e a' sacerdoti, e ai profeti, e a tutto il popolo, che era stato trasportato da Nabuchodonosor da Gerusalemme in Babilonia:	1 This is the text of the letter that the prophet Jeremiah sent from Jerusalem to those who were left of theelders in exile, to the priests, the prophets and all the people whom Nebuchadnezzar had deported fromJerusalem to Babylon.
2 Dopoché furon partiti da Gerusalemme Jeconia, e la padrona, e gli eunuchi, e i principi di Giuda, e di Gerusalemme, e i fabbri, e i gioiellieri:	2 This was after King Jeconiah had left Jerusalem with the queen mother, the eunuchs, the chief men ofJudah and Jerusalem, and the blacksmiths and metalworkers.
3 Per mano di Elasa figliuolo di Saphan, e di Gamaria figliuolo di Helcia mandati a Babilonia da Sedecia re di Giuda a Nabucodonosor re di Babilonia:	3 The letter was entrusted to Elasah son of Shaphan and to Gemariah son of Hilkiah, whom Zedekiahking of Judah had sent to Babylon, to Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon. The letter said:
4 Scrisse egli: Queste cose dice il Signore degli eserciti, il Dio d'Israele a tutti i fuorusciti, i quali io ho trasferiti da Gerusalemme a Babilonia:	4 'Yahweh Sabaoth, the God of Israel, says this to al the exiles deported from Jerusalem to Babylon:
5 Fabbricatevi delle case, e abitatele, e piantate degli orti, e mangiatene il frutto.	5 Build houses, settle down; plant gardens and eat what they produce;
6 Fate de' matrimonj, e generate figliuoli, e figlie: e ammogliate i vostri figliuoli, e maritate le vostre figliuole, e partoriscano figliuoli, e figliuole, e moltiplicate costì, e non vi riducete a scarso numero.	6 marry and have sons and daughters; choose wives for your sons, find husbands for your daughters sothat these can bear sons and daughters in their turn; you must increase there and not decrease.
7 E proccurate la pace della città, nella quale io vi ho fatti passare; e pregate per essa il Signore; perocché nella pace di lei sarà compresa la vostra pace.	7 Work for the good of the city to which I have exiled you; pray to Yahweh on its behalf, since on itswelfare yours depends.
8 Imperocché queste cose dice il Signore degli eserciti, il Dio d'Israele: Non vi seducano i vostri profeti, che son tra di voi, e i vostri indovini, e non date retta a' sogni da voi sognati;	8 For Yahweh Sabaoth, the God of Israel, says this: Do not be deceived by the prophets who are withyou or by your diviners; do not listen to the dreams you have,
9 Imperocché falsamente profetan coloro nel nome mio, ed io non gli ho mandati, dice il Signore;	9 since they prophesy lies to you in my name. I have not sent them, Yahweh declares.
10 Imperocché queste cose dice il Signore: Allorché sarete per compiere i settant'anni in Babilonia, io vi visiterò, e metterò ad effetto la mia graziosa parola, di ricondurvi in questo luogo;	10 For Yahweh says this: When the seventy years granted to Babylon are over, I shal intervene on yourbehalf and fulfil my favourable promise to you by bringing you back to this place.
11 Imperocché io so i disegni, che ho sopra di voi, dice il Signore, disegni di pace, e non di afflizione, per dare a voi la fine, e quello, che aspettate.	11 Yes, I know what plans I have in mind for you, Yahweh declares, plans for peace, not for disaster, togive you a future and a hope.
12 E voi m' invocherete, e partirete; e mi pregherete, ed io vi esaudirò.	12 When you cal to me and come and pray to me, I shal listen to you.
13 Mi cercherete, e mi troverete, al lorché mi cercherete con tutto il cuor vostro.	13 When you search for me, you will find me; when you search wholeheartedly for me,
14 E voi mi troverete, dice il Signore, ed io vi ricondurrò dalla schiavitù, e vi raunerò da tutte le regioni, e da tutti i luoghi, ne' quali io vi ho di spersi, dice il Signore, e vi farò tornare dal luogo, dove vi feci andare raminghi.	14 I shal let you find me (Yahweh declares. I shal restore your fortunes and gather you in from al thenations and wherever I have driven you, Yahweh declares. I shal bring you back to the place from which I exiledyou).
15 Ma voi avete detto: Il Signore ha suscitati a noi de' profeti in Babilonia.	15 'Since you say: Yahweh has raised up prophets for us in Babylon-
16 Or queste cose dice il Signore al re, che siede sul trono di David, e a tutto il popolo, che abita questa città, a' vostri fratelli, che non sono come voi passati in altra regione.	16 this is what Yahweh says about the king now occupying the throne of David and all the people living inthis city, your brothers who did not go with you into exile:
17 Queste cose dice il Signore degli eserciti: Ecco che io manderò contro di loro la spada, e la fame, e la peste; e li tratterò come fichi cattivi, che non posson mangiarsi, per essere guasti.	17 Yahweh Sabaoth says this: I am now going to send them sword, famine and plague; I shal makethem like rotten figs, so bad as to be uneatable.
18 E li perseguiterò colla spada, colla fame, e colla peste: e farò, che siano spersi per tutti i regni della terra, divenuti la maledizione, lo spavento, lo scherno, e l'obbrobrio a tutte le genti, tralle quali io lo caccerò;	18 I shal pursue them with sword, famine and plague. I shall make them an object of terror to al thekingdoms of the earth, a curse, a thing of horror, scorn and derision to al the nations where I have driven them,
19 Perchè non hanno ascoltate le mie parole, dice il Signore, manifestate ad essi di buon'ora da me per mezzo de' profeti miei servi. Ma voi non le ascoltaste, dice il Signore.	19 because they have refused to listen to my words, Yahweh declares, although I have persistently sentthem al my servants the prophets; but they would not listen, Yahweh declares.
20 Voi adunque udite la Parola del Signore, voi fuorusciti tutti mandati da me da Gerusalemme a Babilonia.	20 But al you exiles, whom I have sent from Jerusalem to Babylon, listen to Yahweh's word!
21 Queste cose dice il Signore degli eserciti, il Dio d'Israele ad Achab figliuolo di Colia, e a Sedecia figliuolo di Maasia, i quali profetizzano a voi menzogne nel nome mio: Ecco, che io li darò nelle mani di Nabucodonosor re di Babilonia, ed ei li farà morire sugli occhi vostri.	21 'This is what Yahweh Sabaoth, God of Israel, says about Ahab son of Kolaiah, and Zedekiah son ofMaaseiah, who prophesy lies to you in my name: I shal hand them over now to Nebuchadnezzar king ofBabylon who wil put them to death before your very eyes.
22 E tutti i fuorusciti di Giuda, che sono in Babilonia, prenderanno da questi una maniera di maledizione, dicendo: Faccia a te il Signore come a Sedecia, e ad Achab, i quali il re di Babilonia frisse sul fuoco;	22 This curse, based on their fate, wil be used by al the exiles of Judah in Babylon: May Yahweh treatyou like Zedekiah and Ahab, roasted alive by the king of Babylon,
23 Perocché eglino han fatto cose brutte in Israele, ed hanno svituperate le mogli de' loro amici, ed hanno parlato falsamente nel nome mio, non avendone io data ad essi commissione. Io sono il giudice, e il testimone, dice il Signore.	23 because they have done a scandalous thing in Israel, committing adultery with their neighbour's wivesand speaking lying words in my name without orders from me. I know al the same and am witness to it, Yahwehdeclares.'
24 E a Semeia Nehelamite tu dirai:	24 'And to Shemaiah of Nehelam you wil speak as fol ows:
25 Queste cose dice il Signor degli eserciti, il Dio d'Israele: Perchè tu di tuo capriccio mandasti lettere a tutto il popolo, che è in Gerusalemme, e a Sophonia figliuolo di Maasia sacerdote, e a tutti i sacerdoti, dicendo:	25 Yahweh Sabaoth, God of Israel, says this: Since you, on your own initiative, have sent a letter to allthe people in Jerusalem, to the priest Zephaniah son of Maaseiah (and to al the priests), saying:
26 Il Signore ti ha fatto sacerdote in luogo di Jojada, affinchè tu abbi autorità nella casa del Signore per reprimere ogni fanatico, che profetizza, e metterlo in ceppi, e in prigione,	26 Yahweh has appointed you priest in place of the priest Jehoiada to keep order in the Temple ofYahweh, to put any crazy fel ow posing as a prophet in the stocks and col ar,
27 Ed ora perchè non hai tu gastigato Geremia di Anathoth, che fa tra voi il profeta?	27 why then have you not disciplined Jeremiah of Anathoth, now posing as a prophet to you?
28 Imperocché oltre di questo egli ha mandato a dire a noi in Babilonia: La cosa è lunga: fabbricatevi delle case, e abitatele, piantate degli orti, e mangiatene il frutto.	28 Why, he has even sent us a message in Babylon, saying: It wil be a long time. Build houses, settledown; plant gardens and eat what they produce.'. . .
29 Sofonia adunque lesse questa lettera a Geremia profeta.	29 (Now, after the priest Zephaniah had read this letter to the prophet Jeremiah),
30 E il Signore parlò a Geremia, dicendo:	30 the word of Yahweh came then to Jeremiah as fol ows,
31 Scrivi a tutti i fuorusciti in questo tenore: Queste cose dice il Signore intorno a Semeia Nehelamite: Perchè Semeia ha profetizzato a voi, ed io non lo avea mandato; e vi fece confidare nella menzogna,	31 'Send this message to al the exiles, "This is what Yahweh says about Shemaiah of Nehelam: SinceShemaiah has prophesied to you without my sending him, and since he has caused you to rely on what is false
32 Per questo cosi dice il Signore: Ecco che io visiterò Semeia Nehelamite, e la sua stirpe, della quale non sarà alcuno che segga in mezzo a questo popolo, né che vegga il bene, che io farò al mio popolo; perchè da prevaricatore ha parlato contro il Signore.	32 for that reason, Yahweh declares, I shal punish Shemaiah of Nehelam and his descendants; no malemember of his family wil survive among this people to see the happiness that I wil bestow on my people(Yahweh declares, since he has preached rebel ion against Yahweh)." '
