Geremia 18

1 Parola detta a Geremia dal Signore, che disse:	1 The word that came to Jeremiah from the Lord, saying:
2 Sorgi, e va a casa del vasaio, ed ivi udirai le mie parole.	2 “Rise up and descend into the house of the potter, and there you will hear my words.”
3 Ed io andai a casa del vasaio, ed egli lavorava alla ruota.	3 And I descended into the house of the potter, and behold, he was making a work on the wheel.
4 E il vaso, ch'egli faceva di creta, si sciolse nelle sue mani: e subitamente fece di quello un altro vaso della forma, che a lui parve.	4 And the vessel, which he was making with his hands out of clay, broke. And turning away, he made another vessel, for it had been pleasing in his eyes to make it.
5 E il Signore parlommi, dicendo:	5 Then the word of the Lord came to me, saying:
6 Non potrò io forse fare a voi, casa d'Israele, come ha fatto questo vasaio, dice il Signore? Siccome la terra è in mano del vasaio, così voi, casa d'Israele, nella mano mia.	6 “Am I not able to do with you, O house of Israel, just as this potter has done, says the Lord? Behold, like clay in the hand of the potter, so are you in my hand, O house of Israel.
7 Io repentinamente minaccerò una nazione, ed un regno di sradicarlo, distruggerlo, ed annichilarlo.	7 Suddenly, I will speak against a nation and against a kingdom, so that I may uproot, and destroy, and scatter it.
8 Se quella nazione farà penitenza del suo male, che io le rimproverai, mi ripentirò io pure del mal, che pensava di farle.	8 If that nation, against which I have spoken, will repent from their evil, I too will repent from the evil that I have decided I would do to them.
9 Repentinamente ancora parlerò io di felicitare, e fondare una nazione, od un regno.	9 And soon, I will speak about a nation and about a kingdom, so that I may build and plant it.
10 Se questa farà il male sugli occhi miei, e non udirà la mia voce, io mi ripentirò del bene, che avea detto di farle.	10 If it does evil in my sight, so as not to listen to my voice, I will repent of the good that I have said I would do to it.
11 Tu dunque adesso dì agli uomini di Giuda, e agli abitatori di Gerusalemme: Queste cose dice il Signore: Ecco, che io vo formando per voi un male, ed ho de' pensieri contro di voi: si converta ognuno di voi dalla sua mala vita, raddirizzate le vostre vie, e le vostre inclinazioni.	11 Now, therefore, speak to the men of Judah and to the inhabitants of Jerusalem, saying: Thus says the Lord: Behold, I am forming an evil against you, and I am considering a plan against you. Let each one of you return from his evil way, and direct your ways and your intentions well.”
12 Quelli hanno detto: Non abbiam più speranza: perocché anderem seguendo i nostri pensieri, e farem ciascheduno quel, che gli suggerisce la depravazione del cattivo suo cuore.	12 And they said: “We have lost hope. And so we will follow our own thoughts, and each of us will act according to the depravity of his own evil heart.”
13 Quindi il Signore parla cosi: Domandate alle nazioni: chi mai udì cose tali, e sì orrende, quali purtroppo ha fatte la vergine d'Israele?	13 For this reason, thus says the Lord: “Inquire among the Gentiles. Who has heard of such horrible things as the virgin of Israel has done to excess?
14 Può ella mancare la neve del Libano nei massi della pianura? o può ella esaurirsi la scaturigine di fresca acqua corrente?	14 Do the snows of Lebanon fail to fall on the rocks of the field? Or are the cold waters, which burst forth and flow down, able to be rooted out?
15 Ma il popolo mio si è scordato di me, facendo libagioni alla vanità, e trovando inciampo nelle sue vie, nelle vie antiche, facendo per esse non piano, né facil viaggio.	15 Yet my people have forgotten me, offering useless libations, and stumbling in their ways, in the paths of the world, so that they walk by these on an unmarked route.
16 Per ridurre la loro terra in desolazione, ed in ischerno sempiterno: il passaggiero, che la vedrà, rimarrà stupefatto, e scuoterà la sua testa.	16 And so their land has been given over to desolation and to perpetual hissing. Each one who passes by will be astonished and will shake his head.
17 Qual vento ardente io gli spergerò davanti al nemico: volgerò loro le spalle, e non la faccia nel dì della lor perdizione.	17 Like a burning wind, I will disperse them in the sight the enemy. I will show them the back, and not the face, in the day of their perdition.”
18 Ma quegli dissero: Venite; pensiam seriamente contro Geremia: perocché non resterà senza legge il sacerdote, senza consiglio il sapiente, senza parola il profeta: venite, trafiggiamolo colla lingua, e non badiamo a tutti, i suoi sermoni.	18 And they said: “Come, and let us devise a plan against Jeremiah. For the law will not perish from the priest, nor counsel from the wise, nor a sermon from the prophet. Come, and let us strike him with the tongue, and let us pay no attention to any of his words.”
19 Volgi, o Signore, lo sguardo verbo di me, e ascolta le voci de' miei avversari.	19 Attend to me, O Lord, and hear the voice of my adversaries.
20 Così adunque rendesi mal per bene, dappoiché costoro hanno scavata una fossa per la mia vita? Ricordati com'io mi presentava al tuo cospetto per parlarti a loro favore, e per allontanare da essi il tuo sdegno.	20 Should evil be rendered for good? For they have dug a pit for my soul! Remember that I have stood in your sight, so as to speak on their behalf for good, and to avert your indignation from them.
21 Per questo abbandona tu i loro figli alla fame, e rimettili in balia della spada: le loro mogli si restino senza figli, e i loro mariti sian messi a morte: la gioventù sia trafitta dalla spada nella battaglia.	21 Because of this, give their sons over to famine, and bring them to the hand of the sword. Let their wives be widows without children. And let their husbands be slain by death. Let their youths be stabbed with the sword in battle.
22 Le case loro rimbombino di clamori. Imperocché tu manderai sopra di loro improvvisamente il ladrone, perchè eglino han cavata la fossa per prendermi, ed han teso lacciuoli a' miei piedi.	22 Let an outcry be heard from their houses. For you will lead the robber upon them suddenly. For they have dug a pit, so that they may seize me, and they have hidden snares for my feet.
23 Ma a te, o Signore, noti sono tutti i loro mortali disegni contro di me. Non perdonare alle loro iniquità, non si cancelli dinanzi a te il loro peccato; rovinino per terra al tuo cospetto, nel tempo del tuo furare consumali.	23 But you, O Lord, know all their plans against me unto death. May you not forgive their iniquity, and do not allow their sin be taken away from your face. Let them be thrown down in your sight, in the time of your fury, so that you may destroy them.
