1 Dopo di ciò avvenne, che due eunuchi, il coppiere, e il panettiere del re d'Egitto peccarono contro del loro signore.	1 While these things were going on, it happened that two eunuchs, the cupbearer of the king of Egypt, and the miller of grain, offended their lord.
2 E Faraone sdegnato contro di costoro (uno dei quali era capo dei coppieri, e l'altro de' panattieri)	2 And Pharaoh, being angry with them, (now the one was in charge of the cupbearers, the other of the millers of grain)
3 Li fece mettere nella prigione del capitano delle milizie, dove era rinchiuso anche Giuseppe.	3 sent them to the prison of the leader of the military, in which Joseph also was a prisoner.
4 E il custode della prigione li consegnò a Giuseppe, il quale ancor li serviva. Era passato un tratto di tempo, dacché quegli erano rinchiusi:	4 But the keeper of the prison delivered them to Joseph, who ministered to them also. Some little time passed by, while they were held in custody.
5 Quando ambedue la stessa notte videro un sogno di significazione adattata al caso loro.	5 And they both saw a similar dream on one night, whose interpretations should be related to one another.
6 Ed essendo la mattina andato Giuseppe a trovargli, e vedutili malinconici,	6 And when Joseph had entered to them in the morning, and had seen them sad,
7 Gl'interrogò, dicendo: Per qual motivo oggi avete la faccia più afflitta del solito?	7 he consulted them, saying, “Why is your expression sadder today than usual?”
8 Risposer quegli: Abbiam veduto un sogno, e non abbiamo chi a noi lo interpreti. E Giuseppe disse loro: Non appartiene egli a Dio l'interpretarli? ditemi quel che avete veduto.	8 They responded, “We have seen a dream, and there is no one to interpret it for us.” And Joseph said to them, “Doesn’t interpretation belong to God? Recount for me what you have seen.”
9 Il gran coppiere raccontò il primo il suo sogno: Io vedeva davanti a me una vite,	9 The chief cupbearer explained his dream first. “I saw before me a vine,
10 La quale avea tre tralci, che gettavano a poco a poco gli occhi, e poi i fiori, e poi le uve, che maturavano:	10 on which were three shoots, which grew little by little into buds, and, after the flowers, it matured into grapes.
11 E nella mia mano era la coppa di Faraone: e presi le uve, e le spremei nella coppa che avea in mano, e presentai da bere a Faraone.	11 And the cup of Pharaoh was in my hand. Therefore, I took the grapes, and I pressed them into the cup that I held, and I handed the cup to Pharaoh.”
12 Rispose Giuseppe: La spiegazione del sogno è questa: Tre tralci, tre giorni vi sono ancora,	12 Joseph responded: “This is the interpretation of the dream. The three shoots are the next three days,
13 Dopo de' quali si ricorderà Faraone dei tuoi servigi, e ti renderà il posto di prima: e presenterai a lui la coppa secondo il tuo uffizio, come per l'avanti solevi fare.	13 after which Pharaoh will remember your service, and he will restore you to your former position. And you will give him the cup according to your office, as you were accustomed to do before.
14 Solamente ricordati di me, quando sarai felice, e abbi compassione di me: e sollecita Faraone, che mi tragga da questa prigione:	14 Only remember me, when it will be well with you, and do me this mercy, to suggest to Pharaoh to lead me out of this prison.
15 Perocché con frode fui condotto via dalla terra degli Ebrei, e innocente fui gettato in questa fossa.	15 For I have been stolen from the land of the Hebrews, and here, innocently, I was cast into the pit.”
16 Vedendo il capo dei panattieri, com'egli avea saggiamente diciferato quel sogno, disse: Io pure ho veduto un sogno. Pareami d'avere sopra il mio capo tre canestri di farina:	16 The chief miller of grain, seeing that he had wisely unraveled the dream, said: “I also saw a dream: that I had three baskets of meal above my head,
17 E che nel canestro di sopra io portassi d'ogni specie di mangiare, che si fa dall'arte de' panattieri, e che gli uccelli ne mangiavano.	17 and in one basket, which was the highest, I carried all foods that are made by the art of baking, and the birds ate from it.”
18 Rispose Giuseppe: La sposizione del sogno è questa: tre canestri, cioè tre giorni vi sono ancora,	18 Joseph responded: “This is the interpretation of the dream. The three baskets are the next three days,
19 Dopo i quali Faraone ti farà tagliare il capo, e ti farà crocifiggere, e gli uccelli dell'aria beccheranno le tue carni.	19 after which Pharaoh will carry away your head, and also suspend you from a cross, and the birds will tear your flesh.”
20 Il terzo giorno di poi era il dì della nascita di Faraone; il quale facendo un gran convito a' suoi servi si ricordò a mensa del capo dei coppieri, e del capo dei panattieri,	20 The third day thereafter was the birthday of Pharaoh. And making a great feast for his servants, he remembered, during the banquet, the chief cupbearer and the chief miller of grain.
21 E rendé all'uno il suo uffizio di presentargli la coppa:	21 And he restored the one to his place, to present him the cup;
22 E l'altro fece appiccare a una croce, onde fu dimostrata la veracità dell'interprete.	22 the other he hanged on a gallows, and thus the truth of the interpreter of dreams was proven.
23 Ma tornato in prosperità il capo dei coppieri si scordò del suo interprete.	23 And although he advanced with so much prosperity, the chief cupbearer forgot his interpreter of dreams.
