Siracide 16

BIBBIA RICCIOTTI	CATHOLIC PUBLIC DOMAIN
1 - Non ti rallegrare di figliuoli empi, se si moltiplicano, e non t'allietar di lor, se il timor di Dio non è in essi.	1 You should not rejoice in impious children, if they are successful; nor should you take delight in them, if the fear of God is not in them.
2 Non confidar nella loro vita, e non fare assegnamento sulle loro fatiche.	2 You should not approve of their life, nor should you look with favor on their labors.
3 È meglio invero un sol figliuolo timorato di Dio che mille empi,	3 For one child who fears God is better than one thousand impious children.
4 e [più] vantaggioso morir senza figli, che lasciarne degli empi.	4 And it is better to die without children, than to leave behind impious children.
5 Un saggio basterà a popolare un paese; la tribù [invece] degli empi sarà sterminata.	5 By means one person with understanding, a country will be inhabited. The tribe of the impious will become desolate.
6 Molte di tali cose io vidi co' miei occhi, e cose ancor più gravi udì il mio orecchio.	6 Many such things my eyes have seen, and greater things than these my ear has heard.
7 In una riunione di peccatori avvampò il fuoco, e contro una razza ribelle divampò l'ira.	7 In the synagogue of sinners, a fire will blaze forth; and amid an unbelieving people, wrath will flare up.
8 Non impetraron [perdono] per i propri peccati gli antichi giganti, che, fidando nella propria forza, s'eran ribellati.	8 The giants of antiquity did not obtain pardon for their sins; they were destroyed by trusting in their own abilities.
9 E non perdonò [Iddio] agli ospiti di Lot, e gli abominò per l'insolenza delle loro parole.	9 And he did not spare the place of Lot’s sojourn, and he abhorred them because of the arrogance of their words.
10 Non ebbe pietà di loro e sterminò tutto il popolo, che imbaldanziva ne' suoi peccati.	10 He did not take pity on them, destroying an entire people, who even extolled themselves concerning their sins.
11 E cosi [fu dei] seicentomila uomini a piedi, che s'eran collegati nella durezza del loro cuore. Or se un solo fosse testardo [e ribelle], sarebbe meraviglia che quel solo rimanesse impunito!	11 And this was so with six hundred thousand men, who were gathered together in the hardness of their hearts. And if even a single obstinate person had escaped unpunished, it would be a wonder.
12 La misericordia e lo sdegno sono in lui: è potente nel perdono ed effonde l'ira.	12 For mercy and wrath are with him. He is powerful in forgiveness, and he pours forth wrath.
13 Com'è [immensa] la sua misericordia, cosi il suo castigo: giudica l'uomo secondo le sue opere.	13 As is his mercy, so also is his correction; he judges a man according to his works.
14 Non sfuggirà con le [sue] rapine il peccatore, e non sarà ritardata l'aspettazione di chi usa misericordia.	14 The sinner, in his violations, will not escape; but the patience of the One who shows mercy will not be diminished.
15 Ogni misericordia darà posto a ciuscuno, secondo il merito delle sue opere, e secondo la saggezza del suo pellegrinaggio.	15 Every mercy will make a place for each man, according to the merit of his works, and according to the understanding of his sojourn.
16 Non dire: «Mi nasconderò a Dio, e di lassù chi si ricorderà di me?	16 You should not say: “I am hidden from God,” or, “Who, from on high, will take note of me?”
17 Nella gran turba non sarò riconosciuto: che cos'è Infatti l'anima mia nell'immensità del creato? ».	17 or, “Among a great number of people, I will not be noticed. For what is my soul amid such an immense creation?”
18 Ecco! il cielo e i cieli de' cieli, l'oceano e la terra tutta e quant'è in essi traballano ad uno sguardo di lui.	18 Behold: the heavens, and the heaven of the heavens, the abyss, and the entire earth, and the things that are within these, will be shaken by his gaze,
19 I monti, insieme, e i colli e le fondamenta della terra son scossi da tremore, quando Dio il guarda.	19 together with mountains and hills, and the foundations of the earth. When God casts his gaze upon them, they will be struck with trembling.
20 E su tutte queste cose non riflette il cuore degli [uomini], ma ogni cuore è conosciuto do Lui!	20 And concerning all these things, the heart is without understanding; but every heart is understood by him.
21 e le vie di lui chi le indaga? Sfugge la procella all'occhio dell'uomo,	21 And who will understand his ways, or the tempest, which no eye of man will see?
22 e la più parte delle opere di lui rimnngon nascoste. «I fatti della sua giustizia chi può annunziarli? o chi aspettarli? » Chè lungi da[l pensiero di] parecchi è il patto [divino], e l'esame di tutti s'ha alla flne de' secoli.	22 For many of his works are concealed. But who will announce the works of his justice? Or who will endure them? For the testament is far from some persons, and the examination of each thing is in its end.
23 Chi è scemo di cuore pensa vanità [siffatte], e l'uomo insensato e illuso pensa stoltezze.	23 Whoever diminishes the heart, thinks empty thoughts. For the imprudent and erring man thinks up foolishness.
24 Ascoltami, o figliuolo, e impara le dottrine del sapere, e sta' attento in cuor tuo alle mie parole.	24 Listen to me, son, and learn the discipline of understanding, and attend to my words in your heart.
25 E ti manifesterò ben ponderata dottrina; scruterò la sapienza per esporla, e tu sta' attento in cuor tuo alle mie parole: e con rettitudine di spirito dirò le meraviglie, che Dio fln da principio ha sparso nelle opere sue, e annunzierò con esattezza la scienza di lui.	25 And I will speak with equity about discipline, and I will strive to announce wisdom. So attend to my words in your heart, and I will speak with equity of spirit, about the virtues that God has set within his works from the beginning, and I will announce his knowledge in truth.
26 Per decreto di Dio [sussistono] le sue opere fln da principio, e fln dalla creazione loro ne separò le parli. I loro domini! [stabilì] per [tutte] le generazioni,	26 With the judgment of God, his works have been done from the beginning; and from their institution, he himself distinguished their parts and set their beginnings, in their kinds.
27 e ne regolò le operazioni in perpetuo. Non han fame nè si stancano, e non cessan dal loro operare.	27 He has beautified their works unto eternity. They have neither hungered, nor labored, and they have not ceased from their works.
28 Nessuno dà impaccio al suo vicino: giammai	28 Neither will any one of them cause anguish to his neighbor, forever.
29 non si ribellano alla sua parola.	29 You should not be incredulous at his word.
30 Dopo ciò il Signore volse lo sguardo alla terra, e la riempì de' suoi beni.	30 Afterward, God looked with favor upon the earth, and he filled it with his goodness.
31 Ogni sorta d'animali viventi ricoprì la sua faccia, e nel suo seno fanno essi ritorno.	31 The soul of every living thing brought word from before his face, and their return again is to him.
