1 Per questo mi batte forte il cuore e mi balza fuori dal petto.	1 At this, my very heart quakes and leaps out of its place.
2 Udite attentamente il rumore della sua voce, il fragore che esce dalla sua bocca.	2 Listen, oh listen, to the blast of his voice and the sound that issues from his mouth.
3 Egli lo diffonde per tutto il cielo e la sua folgore giunge ai lembi della terra;	3 His lightning is hurled across the heaven, it strikes to the extremities of earth.
4 dietro di essa ruggisce una voce, egli tuona con la sua voce maestosa: nulla può arrestare il lampo appena si ode la sua voce.	4 After it comes a roaring sound, God thunders with majestic voice. He does not check his thunderboltsuntil his voice resounds no more.
5 Dio tuona mirabilmente con la sua voce, opera meraviglie che non comprendiamo!	5 Yes, certainly God shows us marvels and does great deeds that we cannot understand.
6 Egli infatti dice alla neve: “Cadi sulla terra” e alle piogge torrenziali: “Siate violente”.	6 When he says to the snow, 'Fal on the earth!' to the showers, 'Now rain hard!'
7 Nella mano di ogni uomo pone un sigillo, perché tutti riconoscano la sua opera.	7 he brings al human activity to a standstil , for everyone to acknowledge his work.
8 Le belve si ritirano nei loro nascondigli e si accovacciano nelle loro tane.	8 The animals go back to their dens and take shelter in their lairs.
9 Dalla regione australe avanza l’uragano e il gelo dal settentrione.	9 The storm wind comes from the Mansion of the South, and the north winds usher in the cold.
10 Al soffio di Dio si forma il ghiaccio e le distese d’acqua si congelano.	10 At the breath of God, ice comes next, the surface of the waters hardens over.
11 Carica di umidità le nuvole e le nubi ne diffondono le folgori.	11 He weighs the clouds down with moisture, and the storm clouds radiate his lightning.
12 Egli le fa vagare dappertutto secondo i suoi ordini, perché eseguano quanto comanda loro su tutta la faccia della terra.	12 He himself guides their wheeling motion presiding over their seasonal changes. They carry out hisorders to the letter al over this earthly world.
13 Egli le manda o per castigo del mondo o in segno di bontà.	13 Whether to punish earth's peoples or as a work of faithful love, he despatches them.
14 Porgi l’orecchio a questo, Giobbe, férmati e considera le meraviglie di Dio.	14 Listen to this, Job, without flinching and reflect on the marvel ous works of God.
15 Sai tu come Dio le governa e come fa brillare il lampo dalle nubi?	15 Do you know how God controls them or how his clouds make the lightning flash?
16 Conosci tu come le nuvole si muovono in aria? Sono i prodigi di colui che ha una scienza perfetta.	16 Do you know how he balances the clouds -- a miracle of consummate skil ?
17 Sai tu perché le tue vesti sono roventi, quando la terra è in letargo sotto il soffio dello scirocco?	17 When your clothes are hot to your body and the earth lies stil under the south wind,
18 Hai tu forse disteso con lui il firmamento, solido come specchio di metallo fuso?	18 can you, like him, stretch out the sky, tempered like a mirror of cast metal?
19 Facci sapere che cosa possiamo dirgli! Noi non siamo in grado di esprimerci perché avvolti nelle tenebre.	19 Teach me what we should say to him: but better discuss no further, since we are in the dark.
20 Gli viene forse riferito se io parlo, o, se uno parla, ne viene informato?	20 Does he take note when I speak? When human beings give orders, does he take it in?
21 All’improvviso la luce diventa invisibile, oscurata dalle nubi: poi soffia il vento e le spazza via.	21 There are times when the light vanishes, behind darkening clouds; then comes the wind, sweepingthem away.
22 Dal settentrione giunge un aureo chiarore, intorno a Dio è tremenda maestà.	22 and brightness spreads from the north. God is clothed in fearful splendour:
23 L’Onnipotente noi non possiamo raggiungerlo, sublime in potenza e rettitudine, grande per giustizia: egli non opprime.	23 he, Shaddai, is far beyond our reach. Supreme in power, in equity, excel ing in saving justice, yet nooppressor-
24 Perciò lo temono tutti gli uomini, ma egli non considera quelli che si credono sapienti!».	24 no wonder then that people fear him: everyone thoughtful holds him in awe!
