Geremia 44

BIBBIA MARTINI	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Parola annunziata a tutti i Giudei, che abitavano nella terra d Egitto, a Magdalo, e a Taphnis, e a Memphi, e nella terra di Phatures, per bocca di Geremia profeta, il quale diceva:	1 The word that came to Jeremiah for al the Judaeans living in Egypt, those, that is, living in Migdol,Tahpanhes, Noph and the territory of Pathros.
2 Queste cose dice il Signore degli eserciti, il Dio d'Israele: Voi avete veduto tutti que' mali, ch'io ho mandati sopra Gerusalemme, e sopra tutte le citta di Giuda; ed ecco, che elle sono in oggi deserte, e vuote di abitatori;	2 'Yahweh Sabaoth, God of Israel, says this, "You have seen al the disaster I have brought onJerusalem and all the towns of Judah; today they lie in ruins and uninhabited.
3 A causa delle malvagità commesse da loro per provocarmi a sdegno, andando a offerir sagrifizj, e a rendere onore agli dei stranieri, ignoti ad essi, e a voi, e a' padri vostri.	3 This was because of the wicked deeds they committed to provoke my anger, by going and offeringincense and serving other gods whom neither they, nor you, nor your ancestors knew anything about,
4 E mandai a voi con gran sollecitudine i miei servi, i Profeti, li mandai a dirvi: Non fate tali abbominazioni, le quali sono odiose all'anima mia.	4 although I urgently and untiringly sent you al my servants the prophets to say: You must not do thisloathsome thing, which I hate.
5 E non ascoltarono, e non piegaron le orecchie per convertirsi dalle loro malvagità, e astenersi dal sagrificare agli dei stranieri.	5 But they would not listen or pay attention, and turn from their wickedness and stop offering incense toother gods.
6 E si accese il mio sdegno, e il mio furore, e scoppiò contro le città di Giuda, e contro le piazze di Gerusalemme, e si sono cangiate in solitudine, e in disertagione, quale oggi si vede.	6 And so my furious anger overflowed, burning down the towns of Judah and the streets of Jerusalem,which were reduced to ruins and wasteland, as they stil are today.
7 E adesso queste cose dice il Signore degli eserciti, il Dio d'Israele: Per qual motivo fate questo gran male contro le anime vostre, per far perire i vostri uomini, e le vostre donne, i fanciulli, e i bambini di latte in mezzo a Giuda, talmente che nulla più rimanga di voi,	7 And now, Yahweh, God Sabaoth, God of Israel, says this: Why bring complete disaster on yourselvesby cutting yourselves off from Judah -- your men, women, children and babes in arms -- so as to leaveyourselves no remnant,
8 Irritandomi colle opere delle vostre mani, sagrificando agli dei stranieri nella terra d'Egitto, dove siete venuti per abitarvi, e per malamente perire, ed essere la maledizione, e l'obbrobrio di tutte le genti della terra?	8 by provoking my wrath by your actions, offering incense to other gods in Egypt where you have cometo settle, as though bent on your own destruction and on becoming a curse and a laughing-stock for all thenations of the earth?
9 Vi siete voi dimenticati de' peccati de' padri vostri, e de' peccati dei re di Giuda, e de' peccati delle loro mogli, e de' peccati vostri; e de' peccati delle vostre mogli, fatti nella terra di Giuda, e ne' rioni di Gerusalemme?	9 Have you forgotten the wicked deeds of your ancestors, of the kings of Judah and of your princes, yourown wicked deeds and those of your wives, committed in the country of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem?
10 Ei non se ne sono mondati fino a questo dì, e non hanno temuto, e non hanno osservata la legge del Signore, né i comandamenti intimati da me a voi, e a' padri vostri.	10 To this day they have felt neither contrition nor fear; they have not observed my Law or my statutes,which I prescribed for you, as for your ancestors.
11 Per questo cosi dice il Signor degli eserciti, il Dio d'Israele: Ecco, che io fisserò sopra di voi la mia faccia per vostro danno, e sperderò tutto Giuda.	11 So, Yahweh Sabaoth, God of Israel, says this: Look, I have determined on disaster and shal destroyJudah completely.
12 E me la prenderò cogli avanzi di Giuda, i quali si sono ostinati a voler venire in Egitto, e quivi abitare, e saran tutti consunti nella terra d'Egitto; periranno di spada, e di fame; e saran consunti dal più piccolo fino al più grande, morranno di spada, e di fame, e saranno oggetto di esecrazione, diterrore, di maledizione, e di obbrobrio.	12 I shal take the remnant of Judah who were determined to come to Egypt and settle there, and inEgypt they wil perish; they wil fal to the sword or perish of famine, from least to greatest; by sword and faminethey will die and be an object of execration and horror, a curse, a laughing-stock.
13 E visiterò gli abitatori d'Egitto, come ho visitato Gerusalemme, colla spada, colla fame, e colla peste:	13 I shal punish those who live in Egypt just as I punished Jerusalem: by sword, famine and plague.
14 E non sarà chi la scampi; e degli avanzi de' Giudei, che son pellegrini nella terra d'Egitto, non rimarrà uomo, che torni nella terra di Giuda,verso la quale sospirano di tornare, e di abitarvi: non vi torneranno, se non quelli, che fuggiranno dall'Egitto.	14 Of the remnant of Judah which has come to settle in Egypt, not a single one wil escape or survive toreturn to the country of Judah where they long to return and live. For none of them wil return, except a fewrefugees." '
15 Ma tutti gli uomini (i quali sapevano, come le loro mogli offerivan sagrifizj agli dei stranieri), e tutte le donne, che eran ivi in gran numero, e tutto il popolo, che dimorava nella terra d'Egitto, in Phatures, risposero a Geremia, dicendo:	15 At this, all the men who knew that their wives offered incense to other gods, and al the women whowere standing there, a great crowd (and al the people living in Egypt, in Pathros), answered Jeremiah asfol ows,
16 Intorno alle parole, che tu hai dette a noi nel nome del Signore, noi non ti daremo retta,	16 'We have no intention of listening to the word you have just spoken to us in Yahweh's name,
17 Ma assolutamente faremo tutto quello, che avrem promesso, e farem sagrifizj, e libagioni alla regina del cielo, conforme facemmo noi, e i padri nostri, e i nostri regi, e i nostri principi nelle città di Giuda, e nelle piazze di Gerusalemme, onde avemmo abbondanza di pane, fummo felici, e non vedemmo sciagura.	17 but intend to go on doing al we have vowed to do: offering incense to the Queen of Heaven andpouring libations in her honour, as we used to do, we and our ancestors, our kings and our chief men, in thetowns of Judah and the streets of Jerusalem: we had food in plenty then, we lived well, we suffered no disasters.
18 Ma da quel tempo, in cui tralasciammo di far sagrifizj, e libagioni alla regina del cielo, siam poveri di ogni bene, e siamo consunti dalla spada, ed alla fame.	18 But since we gave up offering incense to the Queen of Heaven and pouring libations in her honour,we have been destitute and have perished either by sword or by famine.
19 Che se noi offeriam sagrifizj, e libagioni alla regina del cielo, abbiam forse noi fatte a lei le schiacciate senza i nostri mariti per onorarla, e offerire a lei le libagioni?	19 Besides, when we offer incense to the Queen of Heaven and pour libations in her honour, do youthink we make cakes for her with her features on them, and pour libations to her, without our husbands'knowledge?'
20 E Geremia disse a tutto il popolo, agli uomini, e alle donne, e a tutta la plebe, che gli avean risposto in tal guisa:	20 To al the people, men and women, all those who had made this answer, Jeremiah retorted,
21 E non si è egli ricordato, e non è egli stato irritato in cuor suo il Signore per que' sagrifizj offerti da voi, e da'padri vostri, e da' vostri regi, e da' vostri principi, e dal popolo di quella terra nelle città di Giuda, e nelle piazze di Gerusalemme?	21 'The incense you offered in the towns of Judah and the streets of Jerusalem, you, your ancestors,your kings, your chief men and the people at large -- was this not what Yahweh kept remembering, and found sorepellent
22 Non poteva più sopportarvi il Signore per le malvage incljnazioni vostre, e per le abbominazioni, che avete fatte: e la vostra terra è stata desolata, e ridotta oggetto di spavento, e di maledizione, e vuota d'abitatori, com' ella è in oggi.	22 that Yahweh could not endure your misdeeds and your loathsome practices any longer, with the resultthat your country has become the uninhabited ruin, the object of horror and cursing it is today?
23 Perchè voi sagrificaste agl'idoli, e peccaste contro il Signore, e non ascoltaste la voce del Signore, e non osservaste la legge, e i comandamenti, e gl'insegnamenti di lui, per questo sono venute sopra di voi queste sciagure, come oggi si vede.	23 Because you offered incense, because you sinned against Yahweh, refusing to listen to the voice ofYahweh, or to observe his Law, his statutes and his decrees -- that is why the present disaster has overtakenyou.'
24 Disse ancor Geremia a tutto il popolo, e a tutte le donne: Udite la Parola del Signore voi popol tutto di Giuda, quanti siete in Egitto:	24 Further, Jeremiah said to al the people, and particularly to al the women, 'Listen to the word ofYahweh, al you Judaeans in Egypt,
25 Queste cose dice il Signor degli eserciti, il Dio d'Israele: Voi, e le vostre mogli colla vostra bocca avete detto, e colle mani vostre avete fatto quello, che dicevate: Adempiamo i nostri voti, che abbiam fatti, di offerire sacrifizio, e libagioni alla regina del cielo; avete adempiuti i vostri voti, e gli avete soddisfatti coll'opera.	25 Yahweh Sabaoth, God of Israel, says this, "You and your wives, what your mouths promised, yourhands have indeed performed! You said: We shall punctiliously fulfil the vows we have made and offer incenseto the Queen of Heaven and pour libations in her honour. Very wel , keep your vows, perform them punctiliously!
26 Per questo udite la Parola del Signore, o popol di Giuda, voi, che abitate nella terra d'Egitto: Ecco, che io ho giurato pel nome mio grande, dice il Signore, che il nome mio non sarà più pronunziato in tutta la terra d'Egitto dalla bocca di uomo alcuno Giudeo, che dica: Vive il Signore.	26 But listen to the word of Yahweh, al you Judaeans living in Egypt: I swear by my great name, Yahwehsays, that my name wil no longer be uttered by any man of Judah throughout Egypt; no one wil say: As LordYahweh lives.
27 Ecco, che io veglierò sopra di essi per loro danno, e non per loro bene; e tutti gli uomini di Giuda, che sono in Egitto, saran consunti dalla spada, e dalla fame, finché siano sterminati totalmente.	27 No, I am going to keep my eye on them for disaster, not for prosperity, and al the Judaeans in Egyptwil perish either by the sword or by famine until they are wiped out.
28 Ma quegli, che fuggiranno la spada, uscendo dall'Egitto, torneranno in piccol numero nella terra di Giuda: e tutti gli avanzi di Giuda, che sono entrati in Egitto per abitarvi, conosceranno, se la mia parola, o la loro abbia effetto.	28 Yet, though few in number, those who escape the sword wil return to the country of Judah fromEgypt. Then the entire remnant of Judah which has come and settled in Egypt wil know whose word comes true,mine or theirs.
29 Ed eccovi un segno (dice il Signore) della visita, ch'io farò a voi in questo luogo, affinchè intendiate come le parole mie saranno veracemente adempiute sopra di voi per vostra sciagura.	29 "And here is the sign for you, Yahweh declares, that I shal punish you in this place: so that you wilknow that the words with which I threaten you will come true:
30 Queste cose dice il Signore: Ecco, che io darò Faraone Ephree re d'Egitto in potere de' suoi nemici, in potere di quegli, che cercano la sua perdizione, come diedi Sedecia re di Giuda in potere di Nabucodonosor re di Babilonia suo nemico, il quale cercava la sua perdizione.	30 Yahweh says this: Look, I shal hand Pharaoh Hophra, king of Egypt, over to his enemies and to thosedetermined to kil him, just as I handed Zedekiah king of Judah over to his enemy Nebuchadnezzar king ofBabylon, who was determined to kil him." '
