Geremia 14

BIBBIA MARTINI	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Parola detta dal Signore a Geremia in proposito della siccità.	1 The word of Yahweh that came to Jeremiah on the occasion of the drought.
2 La Giudea è in pianto, e le porte di Gerusalemme desolate, e abbrunate sono per terra, e si alzano le strida di lei.	2 'Judah is in mourning, her towns are pining, sinking to the ground; a cry goes up from Jerusalem.
3 I magnati mandano i loro inferiori all'acqua: questi vanno ad attignerne e non trovano acqua; riportano vuoti i loro vasi: riinangon confusi, ed afflitti, e s'imbacuccano la testa.	3 The nobles send their servants for water, they come to the water-tanks, find no water, and return withtheir pitchers empty. Dismayed and bewildered, they cover their heads.
4 Per la desolazione della terra priva di pioggia, confusi i contadini s'imbacuccano la testa.	4 Because the soil is al cracked since the country has had no rain; the farmers are dismayed, they covertheir heads.
5 Imperocché la cerva ancora figliò nel campo, e abbandonò il parto; perchè manca l'erba.	5 Even the doe in the countryside giving birth abandons her young, for there is no grass;
6 E gli asini salvatichi si posano su' massi, sorbiscono l'aria, come i dragoni: hanno perduto il lume degli occhi per la mancanza dell'erba.	6 the wild donkeys standing on the bare heights gasp for air like jackals: their eyes grow dim for lack ofpasture.'
7 Se le iniquità nostre ci accusano, tu Signore, abbi pietà per amore del nome tuo; perocché le ribellioni nostre son molte: contro di te abbiam peccato.	7 Although our sins witness against us, Yahweh, for your name's sake, intervene! Yes, our acts ofinfidelity have been many, we have sinned against you!
8 O espettazione d'Israele, Salvatore di lui nel tempo della tribolazione, perchè sarai tu in questa terra come uno straniero, e come un viaggiatore, che qua si volge per albergare?	8 Yahweh, hope of Israel, its Saviour in time of distress, why are you like a stranger in this country, like atravel er staying only for one night?
9 Perchè sarai tu come un uomo in costante, come un campione, che non può dar salute? Ma tu, o Signore, tu abiti tra di noi e noi portiamo il tuo nome; non ci abbandonare.	9 Why are you like someone bemused, like a warrior who has no power to rescue? And yet, Yahweh,you are among us, we are called by your name. Do not desert us!
10 Queste cose dice il Signore a questo popolo, che ha amato di tenere in moto i suoi piedi, e non si è dato posa, e non è accetto al Signore: questi ricorderassi ora delle loro iniquità, e punirà i loro peccati.	10 Yahweh says this about this people, 'They take such pleasure in darting hither and thither, theycannot restrain their feet! But Yahweh takes pleasure in them no longer; now he wil keep their guilt in mind andpunish their sins.'
11 E il Signore mi disse: Non pregare pel bene di questo popolo.	11 Yahweh then said to me, 'Do not intercede for this people or their welfare.
12 Quand'ei faranno digiuni, io non esaudirò le loro orazioni, e se offeriranno olocausti, e vittime, io non le accetterò: perocché io li consumerò colla spada, colla fame, e colla peste.	12 If they fast, I wil not listen to their plea; if they offer burnt offerings and cereal offerings I wil notaccept them. Rather, I shal make an end of them by sword, famine and plague.'
13 E io dissi: Ah, ah, ah, Signore Dio, i profeti dicon loro: Voi non vedrete spada, e non verrà la fame tra voi, ma vera pace darà egli a voi in questo luogo.	13 'Ah, Lord Yahweh,' I answered, 'here are the prophets telling them, "You will not see the sword,famine wil not touch you; I promise you true peace in this place." '
14 E il Signore disse a me: Falsamente questi profeti profetizzano nel nome mio: io non gli ho mandati, e non ho dato loro alcun ordine, e non ho ad essi parlato. Danno a voi per profezie le visioni false, e indovinelli, e imposture, e le illusioni del loro cuore.	14 Then Yahweh said to me, 'The prophets are prophesying lies in my name; I have not sent them, Igave them no orders, I never spoke to them. Delusive visions, hol ow predictions, daydreams of their own, that iswhat they prophesy to you.
15 Per questo cosi parla il Signore riguardo ai profeti, che profetizzano nel nome mio, non mandati da me, e dicono: Non verrà sopra questa terra, né spada, né fame: di spada, e di fame periranno que' profeti.	15 Therefore, Yahweh says this: The prophets who prophesy in my name when I have not sent them,and tel you there will be no sword or famine in this country, these same prophets will meet their end by swordand famine.
16 E i popoli, a' quali costoro profetano, saran gettati pelle vie di Gerusalemme morti di fame, e di spada, egli no, e le loro mogli, e i figliuoli, e le figlie loro, e non sarà chi dia lor sepoltura; e sopra costoro verserò il male loro.	16 And as for the people to whom they prophesy, they wil be tossed into the streets of Jerusalem,victims of famine and the sword, with not a soul to bury them: neither them nor their wives, nor their sons, northeir daughters. I shall pour their own wickedness down on them.
17 E tu dirai loro questa parola: Spandano lagrime gli occhi miei la notte, e il giorno, e non abbian riposo: imperocché da afflizione grande è straziata la vergine figlia del popol mio, di piaga sommamente maligna.	17 'So say this word to them: May my eyes shed tears night and day, unceasingly, since the daughter ofmy people has sustained a fearsome wound, a crippling injury.
18 Se io esco in campagna, ecco i morti di spada; e se io entro nella città, eccoli smunti dalla fame. I profeti stessi, e i sacerdoti sono condotti in un paese, che non conoscevano.	18 If I go into the countryside, there lie those killed by the sword; if I go into the city, I see people torturedwith hunger; even prophets and priests roam the country at their wits' end.'
19 Hai tu rigettato totalmente il popol di Giuda? Od è ella Sionne in abbominio all'anima tua? Perchè adunque ci hai tu in tal guisa percossi, che nulla ci resti di sano? Aspettammo la pace, e nulla abbiamo di bene; il tempo di ristorarci, ed eccoci tutti sconvolti.	19 Have you rejected Judah altogether? Does your very soul revolt at Zion? Why have you struck usdown without hope of cure? We were hoping for peace -- no good came of it! For the moment of cure -- nothingbut terror!
20 Noi riconosciamo, o Signore, le nostre empietà, e le iniquità de' padri nostri: noi abbiam peccato contro di te.	20 Yahweh, we acknowledge our wickedness and our ancestors' guilt: we have indeed sinned againstyou.
21 Per amore del nome tuo non voler tu farci cader nell'obbrobrio, e non far patire a noi contumelie, che offendono il trono della tua gloria. Ricorditi, non annullare l'alleanza fatta da te con noi.	21 For your name's sake do not reject us, do not dishonour the throne of your glory. Remember us; donot break your covenant with us.
22 V'ha egli tra gli scolpiti dei delle genti, chi dia la pioggia? O posson eglino i cieli mandar dell'acqua? Non se' tu quegli, che fai ciò, o Signore Dio nostro, cui noi aspettiamo? Imperocché tutte queste cose le hai fatte tu.	22 Can any of the nations' Futile Ones make it rain? Can the heavens of their own accord give showers?Are you not the one, Yahweh our God? In you is our hope, since you make al these things.
