BIBBIA CEI 2008	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Giobbe prese a dire:	1 Job spoke next. He said:
2 «In verità io so che è così: e come può un uomo aver ragione dinanzi a Dio?	2 Indeed, I know it is as you say: how could anyone claim to be upright before God?
3 Se uno volesse disputare con lui, non sarebbe in grado di rispondere una volta su mille.	3 Anyone trying to argue matters with him, could not give him one answer in a thousand.
4 Egli è saggio di mente, potente di forza: chi si è opposto a lui ed è rimasto salvo?	4 Among the wisest and the hardiest, who then can successful y defy him?
5 Egli sposta le montagne ed esse non lo sanno, nella sua ira egli le sconvolge.	5 He moves the mountains, though they do not know it; he throws them down when he is angry.
6 Scuote la terra dal suo posto e le sue colonne tremano.	6 He shakes the earth, and moves it from its place, making al its pil ars tremble.
7 Comanda al sole ed esso non sorge e mette sotto sigillo le stelle.	7 The sun, at his command, forbears to rise, and on the stars he sets a seal.
8 Lui solo dispiega i cieli e cammina sulle onde del mare.	8 He and no other has stretched out the heavens and trampled on the back of the Sea.
9 Crea l’Orsa e l’Orione, le Plèiadi e le costellazioni del cielo australe.	9 He has made the Bear and Orion, the Pleiades and the Mansions of the South.
10 Fa cose tanto grandi che non si possono indagare, meraviglie che non si possono contare.	10 The works he does are great and unfathomable, and his marvels cannot be counted.
11 Se mi passa vicino e non lo vedo, se ne va e di lui non mi accorgo.	11 If he passes me, I do not see him; he slips by, imperceptible to me.
12 Se rapisce qualcosa, chi lo può impedire? Chi gli può dire: “Cosa fai?”.	12 If he snatches his prey, who is going to stop him or dare to ask, 'What are you doing?'
13 Dio non ritira la sua collera: sotto di lui sono fiaccati i sostenitori di Raab.	13 God does not renounce his anger: beneath him, Rahab's minions stil lie prostrate.
14 Tanto meno potrei rispondergli io, scegliendo le parole da dirgli;	14 And here am I, proposing to defend myself and select my arguments against him!
15 io, anche se avessi ragione, non potrei rispondergli, al mio giudice dovrei domandare pietà.	15 Even if I am upright, what point is there in answering him? I can only plead for mercy with my judge!
16 Se lo chiamassi e mi rispondesse, non credo che darebbe ascolto alla mia voce.	16 And if he deigned to answer my citation, I cannot believe he would listen to what I said,
17 Egli con una tempesta mi schiaccia, moltiplica le mie piaghe senza ragione,	17 he who crushes me for one hair, who, for no reason, wounds and wounds again,
18 non mi lascia riprendere il fiato, anzi mi sazia di amarezze.	18 not even letting me regain my breath, with so much bitterness he fills me!
19 Se si tratta di forza, è lui il potente; se di giustizia, chi potrà citarlo in giudizio?	19 Shal I try force? Look how strong he is! Or go to court? But who wil summon him?
20 Se avessi ragione, la mia bocca mi condannerebbe; se fossi innocente, egli mi dichiarerebbe colpevole.	20 If I prove myself upright, his mouth may condemn me, even if I am innocent, he may pronounce meperverse.
21 Benché innocente, non mi curo di me stesso, detesto la mia vita!	21 But am I innocent? I am no longer sure, and life itself I despise!
22 Per questo io dico che è la stessa cosa: egli fa perire l’innocente e il reo!	22 It is al one, and hence I boldly say: he destroys innocent and guilty alike.
23 Se un flagello uccide all’improvviso, della sciagura degli innocenti egli ride.	23 When a sudden deadly scourge descends, he laughs at the plight of the innocent.
24 La terra è lasciata in balìa del malfattore: egli vela il volto dei giudici; chi, se non lui, può fare questo?	24 When a country falls into the power of the wicked, he veils the faces of its judges. Or if not he, whoelse?
25 I miei giorni passano più veloci d’un corriere, fuggono senza godere alcun bene,	25 My days pass: more swiftly than a runner they flee away with never a glimpse of happiness,
26 volano come barche di papiro, come aquila che piomba sulla preda.	26 they skim past like a reed canoe, like an eagle swooping on its prey.
27 Se dico: “Voglio dimenticare il mio gemito, cambiare il mio volto e rasserenarmi”,	27 If I decide to stifle my complaining, change countenance, and wear a smiling face,
28 mi spavento per tutti i miei dolori; so bene che non mi dichiarerai innocente.	28 fear seizes me at the thought of al my woes, for I know you do not regard me as innocent.
29 Se sono colpevole, perché affaticarmi invano?	29 And if I have done wrong, why should I put myself to useless trouble?
30 Anche se mi lavassi con la neve e pulissi con la soda le mie mani,	30 If I wash myself in melted snow, clean my hands with soda,
31 allora tu mi tufferesti in un pantano e in orrore mi avrebbero le mie vesti.	31 you wil only plunge me into the dung, til my clothes themselves recoil from me!
32 Poiché non è uomo come me, al quale io possa replicare: “Presentiamoci alla pari in giudizio”.	32 For he is not human like me: impossible for me to answer him or appear alongside him in court.
33 Non c’è fra noi due un arbitro che ponga la mano su di noi.	33 There is no arbiter between us, to lay his hand on both,
34 Allontani da me la sua verga, che non mi spaventi il suo terrore:	34 to stay his rod from me, or keep away his daunting terrors.
35 allora parlerei senza aver paura di lui; poiché così non è, mi ritrovo con me solo.	35 Nonetheless, unafraid of him, I shal speak: since I do not see myself like that at al !
