BIBBIA CEI 2008	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Elifaz di Teman prese a dire:	1 Eliphaz of Teman spoke next. He said:
2 «Può forse l’uomo giovare a Dio, dato che il saggio può giovare solo a se stesso?	2 Can a human being contribute anything to God, when even someone intel igent can benefit onlyhimself?
3 Quale interesse ne viene all’Onnipotente che tu sia giusto, o che vantaggio ha, se tieni una condotta integra?	3 Does Shaddai derive any benefit from your uprightness, or profit from your blameless conduct?
4 È forse per la tua pietà che ti punisce e ti convoca in giudizio?	4 Do you think he is punishing you for your piety and bringing you to justice for that?
5 O non piuttosto per la tua grande malvagità e per le tue iniquità senza limite?	5 No, for your great wickedness, more likely, for your unlimited sins!
6 Senza motivo infatti hai angariato i tuoi fratelli e delle vesti hai spogliato gli ignudi.	6 You have exacted unearned pledges from your brothers, stripped people naked of their clothes,
7 Non hai dato da bere all’assetato e all’affamato hai rifiutato il pane.	7 failed to give water to the thirsty and refused bread to the hungry;
8 Ai prepotenti davi la terra e vi abitavano solo i tuoi favoriti.	8 handed the land over to a strong man, for some favoured person to move in,
9 Le vedove rimandavi a mani vuote e spezzavi le braccia degli orfani.	9 sent widows away empty-handed and crushed the arms of orphans.
10 Ecco perché intorno a te ci sono lacci e un improvviso spavento ti sorprende,	10 No wonder, then, if snares are al around you, and sudden terrors make you afraid;
11 oppure l’oscurità ti impedisce di vedere e la piena delle acque ti sommerge.	11 if light has turned to darkness, so that you cannot see, and you have been submerged in the flood.
12 Ma Dio non è nell’alto dei cieli? Guarda quanto è lontano il vertice delle stelle!	12 Does not God live high in the heavens, does he not see the zenith of the stars?
13 E tu dici: “Che cosa ne sa Dio? Come può giudicare attraverso l’oscurità delle nubi?	13 And because he is up there, you have said, 'What does God know? Can he judge through the darkcloud?
14 Le nubi gli fanno velo e non vede quando passeggia sulla volta dei cieli”.	14 The clouds, to him, are an impenetrable veil, as he goes his way on the rim of the heavens.'
15 Vuoi tu seguire il sentiero di un tempo, già battuto da persone perverse,	15 And wil you stil fol ow the ancient trail trodden by the wicked,
16 che prematuramente furono portate via, quando un fiume si era riversato sulle loro fondamenta?	16 those who were borne off before their time, whose foundations were swamped by a flood,
17 Dicevano a Dio: “Allontànati da noi! Che cosa può fare a noi l’Onnipotente?”.	17 for having said to God, 'Go away! What can Shaddai do to us?'
18 Eppure è lui che ha riempito le loro case di beni, mentre il consiglio dei malvagi è lontano da lui!	18 Yet he himself had filled their houses with good things, although excluded from the plans of thewicked!
19 I giusti vedranno e ne gioiranno e l’innocente riderà di loro:	19 At such a spectacle, the upright rejoice, and the innocent deride them:
20 “Finalmente sono annientati i loro averi e il fuoco ha divorato la loro opulenza!”.	20 'See how our enemies have been destroyed! See how their wealth has perished in the flames!'
21 Su, riconcìliati con lui e tornerai felice, e avrai nuovamente il tuo benessere.	21 Wel then! Make peace with him, be reconciled, and al your happiness will be restored to you.
22 Accogli la legge dalla sua bocca e poni le sue parole nel tuo cuore.	22 Welcome the teaching from his lips, and keep his words close to your heart.
23 Se ti rivolgerai all’Onnipotente, verrai ristabilito. Se allontanerai l’iniquità dalla tua tenda,	23 If you return, humbled, to Shaddai and drive wickedness far from your tent,
24 se stimerai come polvere l’oro e come ciottoli dei fiumi l’oro di Ofir,	24 if you lay your gold down on the dust, Ophir down among the pebbles of the torrent,
25 allora l’Onnipotente sarà il tuo oro, sarà per te come mucchi d’argento.	25 Shaddai wil be bars of gold to you and silver piled in heaps.
26 Allora sì, nell’Onnipotente ti delizierai e a Dio alzerai il tuo volto.	26 Then Shaddai will be al your delight, and you wil lift your face to God.
27 Lo supplicherai ed egli ti esaudirà, e tu scioglierai i tuoi voti.	27 You wil pray, and he wil hear; and you wil be able to fulfil your vows.
28 Quando deciderai una cosa, ti riuscirà e sul tuo cammino brillerà la luce,	28 Whatever you undertake wil go wel , and light will shine on your path;
29 perché egli umilia l’alterigia del superbo, ma soccorre chi ha lo sguardo dimesso.	29 for he casts down the pride of the arrogant, but he saves those of downcast eyes.
30 Egli libera chi è innocente, e tu sarai liberato per la purezza delle tue mani».	30 He rescues anyone who is innocent; have your hands clean, and you wil be saved.
