BIBBIA CEI 1974	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Alleluia. Celebrate il Signore perché è buono, perché eterna è la sua misericordia.	1 Al eluia! Give thanks to Yahweh for he is good, his faithful love lasts for ever.
2 Lo dicano i riscattati del Signore, che egli liberò dalla mano del nemico	2 So let them say whom Yahweh redeemed, whom he redeemed from the power of their enemies,
3 e radunò da tutti i paesi, dall'oriente e dall'occidente, dal settentrione e dal mezzogiorno.	3 bringing them back from foreign lands, from east and west, north and south.
4 Vagavano nel deserto, nella steppa, non trovavano il cammino per una città dove abitare.	4 They were wandering in the desert, in the wastelands, could find no way to an inhabited city;
5 Erano affamati e assetati, veniva meno la loro vita.	5 they were hungry and thirsty, their life was ebbing away.
6 Nell'angoscia gridarono al Signore ed egli li liberò dalle loro angustie.	6 They cried out to Yahweh in their distress, he rescued them from their plight,
7 Li condusse sulla via retta, perché camminassero verso una città dove abitare.	7 he set them on the road, straight to an inhabited city.
8 Ringrazino il Signore per la sua misericordia, per i suoi prodigi a favore degli uomini;	8 Let them thank Yahweh for his faithful love, for his wonders for the children of Adam!
9 poiché saziò il desiderio dell'assetato, e l'affamato ricolmò di beni.	9 He has fed the hungry to their hearts' content, filled the starving with good things.
10 Abitavano nelle tenebre e nell'ombra di morte, prigionieri della miseria e dei ceppi,	10 Sojourners in gloom and shadow dark as death, fettered in misery and chains,
11 perché si erano ribellati alla parola di Dio e avevano disprezzato il disegno dell'Altissimo.	11 for defying the orders of Yahweh, for scorning the plan of the Most High-
12 Egli piegò il loro cuore sotto le sventure; cadevano e nessuno li aiutava.	12 he subdued their spirit by hard labour; if they fel there was no one to help.
13 Nell'angoscia gridarono al Signore ed egli li liberò dalle loro angustie.	13 They cried out to Yahweh in their distress, he rescued them from their plight,
14 Li fece uscire dalle tenebre e dall'ombra di morte e spezzò le loro catene.	14 he brought them out from gloom and shadow dark as death, and shattered their chains.
15 Ringrazino il Signore per la sua misericordia, per i suoi prodigi a favore degli uomini;	15 Let them thank Yahweh for his faithful love, for his wonders for the children of Adam!
16 perché ha infranto le porte di bronzo e ha spezzato le barre di ferro.	16 He broke open gates of bronze and smashed iron bars.
17 Stolti per la loro iniqua condotta, soffrivano per i loro misfatti;	17 Fools for their rebellious ways, wretched because of their sins,
18 rifiutavano ogni nutrimento e già toccavano le soglie della morte.	18 finding all food repugnant, brought close to the gates of death-
19 Nell'angoscia gridarono al Signore ed egli li liberò dalle loro angustie.	19 they cried out to Yahweh in their distress; he rescued them from their plight,
20 Mandò la sua parola e li fece guarire, li salvò dalla distruzione.	20 he sent out his word and cured them, and rescued their life from the abyss.
21 Ringrazino il Signore per la sua misericordia e per i suoi prodigi a favore degli uomini.	21 Let them thank Yahweh for his faithful love, for his wonders for the children of Adam!
22 Offrano a lui sacrifici di lode, narrino con giubilo le sue opere.	22 Let them offer thanksgiving sacrifices, and recount with shouts of joy what he has done!
23 Coloro che solcavano il mare sulle navi e commerciavano sulle grandi acque,	23 Voyagers on the sea in ships, plying their trade on the great ocean,
24 videro le opere del Signore, i suoi prodigi nel mare profondo.	24 have seen the works of Yahweh, his wonders in the deep.
25 Egli parlò e fece levare un vento burrascoso che sollevò i suoi flutti.	25 By his word he raised a storm-wind, lashing up towering waves.
26 Salivano fino al cielo, scendevano negli abissi; la loro anima languiva nell'affanno.	26 Up to the sky then down to the depths! Their stomachs were turned to water;
27 Ondeggiavano e barcollavano come ubriachi, tutta la loro perizia era svanita.	27 they staggered and reeled like drunkards, and al their skill went under.
28 Nell'angoscia gridarono al Signore ed egli li liberò dalle loro angustie.	28 They cried out to Yahweh in their distress, he rescued them from their plight,
29 Ridusse la tempesta alla calma, tacquero i flutti del mare.	29 he reduced the storm to a calm, and al the waters subsided,
30 Si rallegrarono nel vedere la bonaccia ed egli li condusse al porto sospirato.	30 and he brought them, overjoyed at the stillness, to the port where they were bound.
31 Ringrazino il Signore per la sua misericordia e per i suoi prodigi a favore degli uomini.	31 Let them thank Yahweh for his faithful love, for his wonders for the children of Adam!
32 Lo esaltino nell'assemblea del popolo, lo lodino nel consesso degli anziani.	32 Let them extol him in the assembly of the people, and praise him in the council of elders.
33 Ridusse i fiumi a deserto, a luoghi aridi le fonti d'acqua	33 He has turned rivers into desert, bubbling springs into arid ground,
34 e la terra fertile a palude per la malizia dei suoi abitanti.	34 fertile country into salt-flats, because the people living there were evil.
35 Ma poi cambiò il deserto in lago, e la terra arida in sorgenti d'acqua.	35 But he has turned desert into stretches of water, arid ground into bubbling springs,
36 Là fece dimorare gli affamati ed essi fondarono una città dove abitare.	36 and has given the hungry a home, where they have built themselves a city.
37 Seminarono campi e piantarono vigne, e ne raccolsero frutti abbondanti.	37 There they sow fields and plant vines, and reap a harvest of their produce.
38 Li benedisse e si moltiplicarono, non lasciò diminuire il loro bestiame.	38 He blesses them and their numbers increase, he keeps their cattle at full strength.
39 Ma poi, ridotti a pochi, furono abbattuti, perché oppressi dalle sventure e dal dolore.	39 Their numbers had fal en, they had grown weak, under pressure of disaster and hardship;
40 Colui che getta il disprezzo sui potenti, li fece vagare in un deserto senza strade.	40 he covered princes in contempt, left them to wander in trackless wastes.
41 Ma risollevò il povero dalla miseria e rese le famiglie numerose come greggi.	41 But the needy he raises from their misery, makes their families as numerous as sheep.
42 Vedono i giusti e ne gioiscono e ogni iniquo chiude la sua bocca.	42 At the sight the honest rejoice, and the wicked have nothing to say.
43 Chi è saggio osservi queste cose e comprenderà la bontà del Signore.	43 Who is wise? Such a one should take this to heart, and come to understand Yahweh's faithful love.
