1 Alleluia. Celebrate il Signore perché è buono, perché eterna è la sua misericordia.	1 "Give thanks to the LORD who is good, whose love endures forever!"
2 Lo dicano i riscattati del Signore, che egli liberò dalla mano del nemico	2 Let that be the prayer of the LORD'S redeemed, those redeemed from the hand of the foe,
3 e radunò da tutti i paesi, dall'oriente e dall'occidente, dal settentrione e dal mezzogiorno.	3 Those gathered from foreign lands, from east and west, from north and south.
4 Vagavano nel deserto, nella steppa, non trovavano il cammino per una città dove abitare.	4 Some had lost their way in a barren desert; found no path toward a city to live in.
5 Erano affamati e assetati, veniva meno la loro vita.	5 They were hungry and thirsty; their life was ebbing away.
6 Nell'angoscia gridarono al Signore ed egli li liberò dalle loro angustie.	6 In their distress they cried to the LORD, who rescued them in their peril,
7 Li condusse sulla via retta, perché camminassero verso una città dove abitare.	7 Guided them by a direct path so they reached a city to live in.
8 Ringrazino il Signore per la sua misericordia, per i suoi prodigi a favore degli uomini;	8 Let them thank the LORD for such kindness, such wondrous deeds for mere mortals.
9 poiché saziò il desiderio dell'assetato, e l'affamato ricolmò di beni.	9 For he satisfied the thirsty, filled the hungry with good things.
10 Abitavano nelle tenebre e nell'ombra di morte, prigionieri della miseria e dei ceppi,	10 Some lived in darkness and gloom, in prison, bound with chains,
11 perché si erano ribellati alla parola di Dio e avevano disprezzato il disegno dell'Altissimo.	11 Because they rebelled against God's word, scorned the counsel of the Most High,
12 Egli piegò il loro cuore sotto le sventure; cadevano e nessuno li aiutava.	12 Who humbled their hearts through hardship; they stumbled with no one to help.
13 Nell'angoscia gridarono al Signore ed egli li liberò dalle loro angustie.	13 In their distress they cried to the LORD, who saved them in their peril,
14 Li fece uscire dalle tenebre e dall'ombra di morte e spezzò le loro catene.	14 Led them forth from darkness and gloom and broke their chains asunder.
15 Ringrazino il Signore per la sua misericordia, per i suoi prodigi a favore degli uomini;	15 Let them thank the LORD for such kindness, such wondrous deeds for mere mortals.
16 perché ha infranto le porte di bronzo e ha spezzato le barre di ferro.	16 For he broke down the gates of bronze and snapped the bars of iron.
17 Stolti per la loro iniqua condotta, soffrivano per i loro misfatti;	17 Some fell sick from their wicked ways, afflicted because of their sins.
18 rifiutavano ogni nutrimento e già toccavano le soglie della morte.	18 They loathed all manner of food; they were at the gates of death.
19 Nell'angoscia gridarono al Signore ed egli li liberò dalle loro angustie.	19 In their distress they cried to the LORD, who saved them in their peril,
20 Mandò la sua parola e li fece guarire, li salvò dalla distruzione.	20 Sent forth the word to heal them, snatched them from the grave.
21 Ringrazino il Signore per la sua misericordia e per i suoi prodigi a favore degli uomini.	21 Let them thank the LORD for such kindness, such wondrous deeds for mere mortals.
22 Offrano a lui sacrifici di lode, narrino con giubilo le sue opere.	22 Let them offer a sacrifice in thanks, declare his works with shouts of joy.
23 Coloro che solcavano il mare sulle navi e commerciavano sulle grandi acque,	23 Some went off to sea in ships, plied their trade on the deep waters.
24 videro le opere del Signore, i suoi prodigi nel mare profondo.	24 They saw the works of the LORD, the wonders of God in the deep.
25 Egli parlò e fece levare un vento burrascoso che sollevò i suoi flutti.	25 He spoke and roused a storm wind; it tossed the waves on high.
26 Salivano fino al cielo, scendevano negli abissi; la loro anima languiva nell'affanno.	26 They rose up to the heavens, sank to the depths; their hearts trembled at the danger.
27 Ondeggiavano e barcollavano come ubriachi, tutta la loro perizia era svanita.	27 They reeled, staggered like drunkards; their skill was of no avail.
28 Nell'angoscia gridarono al Signore ed egli li liberò dalle loro angustie.	28 In their distress they cried to the LORD, who brought them out of their peril,
29 Ridusse la tempesta alla calma, tacquero i flutti del mare.	29 Hushed the storm to a murmur; the waves of the sea were stilled.
30 Si rallegrarono nel vedere la bonaccia ed egli li condusse al porto sospirato.	30 They rejoiced that the sea grew calm, that God brought them to the harbor they longed for.
31 Ringrazino il Signore per la sua misericordia e per i suoi prodigi a favore degli uomini.	31 Let them thank the LORD for such kindness, such wondrous deeds for mere mortals.
32 Lo esaltino nell'assemblea del popolo, lo lodino nel consesso degli anziani.	32 Let them praise him in the assembly of the people, give thanks in the council of the elders.
33 Ridusse i fiumi a deserto, a luoghi aridi le fonti d'acqua	33 God changed rivers into desert, springs of water into thirsty ground,
34 e la terra fertile a palude per la malizia dei suoi abitanti.	34 Fruitful land into a salty waste, because of the wickedness of its people.
35 Ma poi cambiò il deserto in lago, e la terra arida in sorgenti d'acqua.	35 He changed the desert into pools of water, arid land into springs of water,
36 Là fece dimorare gli affamati ed essi fondarono una città dove abitare.	36 And settled the hungry there; they built a city to live in.
37 Seminarono campi e piantarono vigne, e ne raccolsero frutti abbondanti.	37 They sowed fields and planted vineyards, brought in an abundant harvest.
38 Li benedisse e si moltiplicarono, non lasciò diminuire il loro bestiame.	38 God blessed them, they became very many, and their livestock did not decrease.
39 Ma poi, ridotti a pochi, furono abbattuti, perché oppressi dalle sventure e dal dolore.	39 Where they were diminished and brought low through misery and cruel oppression,
40 Colui che getta il disprezzo sui potenti, li fece vagare in un deserto senza strade.	40 But he poured out contempt on princes, made them wander the trackless wastes,
41 Ma risollevò il povero dalla miseria e rese le famiglie numerose come greggi.	41 While the poor were released from their affliction; their families increased like their flocks.
42 Vedono i giusti e ne gioiscono e ogni iniquo chiude la sua bocca.	42 The upright saw this and rejoiced; all wickedness shut its mouth.
43 Chi è saggio osservi queste cose e comprenderà la bontà del Signore.	43 Whoever is wise will take note of these things, will ponder the merciful deeds of the LORD.
