1 Alleluia. Celebrate il Signore, perché è buono, perché eterna è la sua misericordia.	1 Al eluia! Give thanks to Yahweh, for he is good, his faithful love is everlasting!
2 Chi può narrare i prodigi del Signore, far risuonare tutta la sua lode?	2 Who can recount al Yahweh's triumphs, who can ful y voice his praise?
3 Beati coloro che agiscono con giustizia e praticano il diritto in ogni tempo.	3 How blessed are those who keep to what is just, whose conduct is always upright!
4 Ricordati di noi, Signore, per amore del tuo popolo, visitaci con la tua salvezza,	4 Remember me, Yahweh, in your love for your people. Come near to me with your saving power,
5 perché vediamo la felicità dei tuoi eletti, godiamo della gioia del tuo popolo, ci gloriamo con la tua eredità.	5 let me share the happiness of your chosen ones, let me share the joy of your people, the pride ofyour heritage.
6 Abbiamo peccato come i nostri padri, abbiamo fatto il male, siamo stati empi.	6 Like our ancestors, we have sinned, we have acted wickedly, guiltily;
7 I nostri padri in Egitto non compresero i tuoi prodigi, non ricordarono tanti tuoi benefici e si ribellarono presso il mare, presso il mar Rosso.	7 our ancestors in Egypt never grasped the meaning of your wonders. They did not bear in mind yourcountless acts of love, at the Sea of Reeds they defied the Most High;
8 Ma Dio li salvò per il suo nome, per manifestare la sua potenza.	8 but for the sake of his name he saved them, to make known his mighty power.
9 Minacciò il mar Rosso e fu disseccato, li condusse tra i flutti come per un deserto;	9 At his rebuke the Sea of Reeds dried up, he let them pass through the deep as though it were desert,
10 li salvò dalla mano di chi li odiava, li riscattò dalla mano del nemico.	10 so he saved them from their opponents' clutches, rescued them from the clutches of their enemies.
11 L'acqua sommerse i loro avversari; nessuno di essi sopravvisse.	11 The waters enveloped their enemies, not one of whom was left.
12 Allora credettero alle sue parole e cantarono la sua lode.	12 Then they believed what he had said, and sang his praises.
13 Ma presto dimenticarono le sue opere, non ebbero fiducia nel suo disegno,	13 But they soon forgot his achievements, they did not even wait for his plans;
14 arsero di brame nel deserto, e tentarono Dio nella steppa.	14 they were overwhelmed with greed in the wastelands, in the solitary wastes they challenged God.
15 Concesse loro quanto domandavano e saziò la loro ingordigia.	15 He gave them al they asked for, but struck them with a deep wasting sickness;
16 Divennero gelosi di Mosè negli accampamenti, e di Aronne, il consacrato del Signore.	16 in the camp they grew jealous of Moses, and of Aaron, Yahweh's holy one.
17 Allora si aprì la terra e inghiottì Datan, e seppellì l'assemblea di Abiron.	17 The earth opened and swal owed up Dathan, closed in on Abiram's faction;
18 Divampò il fuoco nella loro fazione e la fiamma divorò i ribelli.	18 fire flamed out against their faction, the renegades were engulfed in flames.
19 Si fabbricarono un vitello sull'Oreb, si prostrarono a un'immagine di metallo fuso;	19 At Horeb they made a calf, bowed low before cast metal;
20 scambiarono la loro gloria con la figura di un toro che mangia fieno.	20 they exchanged their glory for the image of a grass-eating bull.
21 Dimenticarono Dio che li aveva salvati, che aveva operato in Egitto cose grandi,	21 They forgot the God who was saving them, who had done great deeds in Egypt,
22 prodigi nel paese di Cam, cose terribili presso il mar Rosso.	22 such wonders in the land of Ham, such awesome deeds at the Sea of Reeds.
23 E aveva già deciso di sterminarli, se Mosè suo eletto non fosse stato sulla breccia di fronte a lui, per stornare la sua collera dallo sterminio.	23 He thought of putting an end to them, had not Moses, his chosen one, taken a stand in the breachand confronted him, to turn his anger away from destroying them.
24 Rifiutarono un paese di delizie, non credettero alla sua parola.	24 They counted a desirable land for nothing, they put no trust in his promise;
25 Mormorarono nelle loro tende, non ascoltarono la voce del Signore.	25 they stayed in their tents and grumbled, they would not listen to Yahweh's voice.
26 Egli alzò la mano su di loro giurando di abbatterli nel deserto,	26 So he lifted his hand against them, to strike them down in the desert,
27 di disperdere i loro discendenti tra le genti e disseminarli per il paese.	27 to strike down their descendants among the nations, to scatter them al over the world.
28 Si asservirono a Baal-Peor e mangiarono i sacrifici dei morti,	28 They committed themselves to serve Baal-Peor, and ate sacrifices made to lifeless gods.
29 provocarono Dio con tali azioni e tra essi scoppiò una pestilenza.	29 They so provoked him by their actions that a plague broke out among them.
30 Ma Finees si alzò e si fece giudice, allora cessò la peste	30 Then up stood Phinehas to intervene, and the plague was checked;
31 e gli fu computato a giustizia presso ogni generazione, sempre.	31 for this he is the example of uprightness, from age to age for ever.
32 Lo irritarono anche alle acque di Meriba e Mosè fu punito per causa loro,	32 At the waters of Meribah they so angered Yahweh, that Moses suffered on their account,
33 perché avevano inasprito l'animo suo ed egli disse parole insipienti.	33 for they had embittered his spirit, and he spoke without due thought.
34 Non sterminarono i popoli come aveva ordinato il Signore,	34 They did not destroy the nations, as Yahweh had told them to do,
35 ma si mescolarono con le nazioni e impararono le opere loro.	35 but intermarried with them, and adopted their ways.
36 Servirono i loro idoli e questi furono per loro un tranello.	36 They worshipped those nations' false gods, til they found themselves entrapped,
37 Immolarono i loro figli e le loro figlie agli dèi falsi.	37 and sacrificed their own sons and their daughters to demons.
38 Versarono sangue innocente, il sangue dei figli e delle figlie sacrificati agli idoli di Canaan; la terra fu profanata dal sangue,	38 Innocent blood they shed, the blood of their sons and daughters; offering them to the idols ofCanaan, they pol uted the country with blood.
39 si contaminarono con le opere loro, si macchiarono con i loro misfatti.	39 They defiled themselves by such actions, their behaviour was that of a harlot.
40 L'ira del Signore si accese contro il suo popolo, ebbe in orrore il suo possesso;	40 Yahweh's anger blazed out at his people, his own heritage fil ed him with disgust.
41 e li diede in balìa dei popoli, li dominarono i loro avversari,	41 He handed them over to the nations, and their opponents became their masters;
42 li oppressero i loro nemici e dovettero piegarsi sotto la loro mano.	42 their enemies lorded it over them, crushing them under their rule.
43 Molte volte li aveva liberati; ma essi si ostinarono nei loro disegni e per le loro iniquità furono abbattuti.	43 Time and again he rescued them, but they stil defied him deliberately, and sank ever deeper in theirguilt;
44 Pure, egli guardò alla loro angoscia quando udì il loro grido.	44 even so he took pity on their distress, as soon as he heard them cry out.
45 Si ricordò della sua alleanza con loro, si mosse a pietà per il suo grande amore.	45 Bearing his covenant with them in mind, he relented in his boundless and faithful love;
46 Fece loro trovare grazia presso quanti li avevano deportati.	46 he ensured that they received compassion, in their treatment by al their captors.
47 Salvaci, Signore Dio nostro, e raccoglici di mezzo ai popoli, perché proclamiamo il tuo santo nome e ci gloriamo della tua lode.	47 Save us, Yahweh our God, gather us from among the nations, that we may give thanks to your holyname, and may glory in praising you.
48 Benedetto il Signore, Dio d'Israele da sempre, per sempre. Tutto il popolo dica: Amen.	48 Blessed be Yahweh, the God of Israel, from all eternity and for ever! Let all the people say, 'Amen'.
