Siracide 39

BIBBIA RICCIOTTI	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Il sapiente ricerca la sapienza di tutti gli antichi, e si occupa de' profeti.	1 Not so with one who concentrates his mind and his meditation on the Law of the Most High. Heresearches into the wisdom of al the Ancients, he occupies his time with the prophecies.
2 Le spiegazioni degli uomini celebri tiene di conto, e ne' rigiri degli acuti detti s'addentra con [loro].	2 He preserves the discourses of famous men, he is at home with the niceties of parables.
3 Il senso riposto de' proverbi egli scruta, e sugli enimmi delle allegorie s'intrattiene.	3 He researches into the hidden sense of proverbs, he ponders the obscurities of parables.
4 In mezzo a' magnati e' presta servizio, e al cospetto del principe apparisce.	4 He enters the service of princes, he is seen in the presence of rulers. He travels in foreign countries, hehas experienced human good and human evil.
5 In paese di popoli stranieri farà viaggi, perchè il bene e il male ei vuol saggiare tra gli uomini.	5 At dawn and with al his heart he turns to the Lord his Creator; he pleads in the presence of the MostHigh, he opens his mouth in prayer and makes entreaty for his sins.
6 Il suo cuore e' lo mette nel ricercar di buon mattino il Signore che [l'ha creato,] e davanti all'Altissimo inalza preghiere.	6 If such be the wil of the great Lord, he wil be filled with the spirit of intel igence, he wil shower forthwords of wisdom, and in prayer give thanks to the Lord.
7 Apre la sua bocca nell'orazione, e prega per i suoi peccati.	7 He will grow upright in purpose and learning, he will ponder the Lord's hidden mysteries.
8 Se il Signore, il grande [Iddio], vorrà, lo riempirà dello spirito d'intelligenza.	8 He will display the instruction he has received, taking his pride in the Law of the Lord's covenant.
9 E come pioggia [allora] e' spanderà le parole della sua sapienze, e nell'orazione loderà il Signore.	9 Many wil praise his intel igence and it wil never be forgotten. His memory will not disappear,generation after generation his name will live.
10 Indirizzerà bene la sua prudenza e il sapere, e sui misteri di lui mediterà.	10 Nations wil proclaim his wisdom, the assembly will celebrate his praises.
11 Divulgherà l'insegnamento della sua dottrina, e nella legge dell'alleanza del Signore si glorierà.	11 If he lives long, his name will be more glorious than a thousand others, and if he dies, that wil satisfyhim just as wel .
12 Loderanno molti la sapienza di lui, e non sarà dimenticato in eterno.	12 And here are some more of my reflections: yes, I am as ful as the moon at the ful !
13 Non perirà la sua memoria, e il suo nome vivrà di generazione in generazione.	13 Listen to me, devout children, and blossom like the rose that grows on the bank of a watercourse.
14 La sapienza di lui celebreranno i popoli, e le sue lodi predicherà l'assemblea.	14 Give off a sweet smel like incense, flower like the lily, spread your fragrance abroad, sing a song ofpraise blessing the Lord for all his works.
15 Finché rimane [in vita], il suo nome è più celebre di mille, e quando riposerà [nella tomba], ciò sarà a lui di profitto.	15 Declare the greatness of his name, proclaim his praise with song and with lyre, and this is how youmust sing his praises:
16 Seguiterò ad esporre il frutto delle mie riflessioni, perchè come d'un [sacro] furore son pieno.	16 'How wonderful, the actions of the Lord! Whatever he orders is done at the proper time!' You must notsay, 'What is this? Why is that?' There is a proper time for every question.
17 Ascoltatemi, o divini rampolli, e germogliate come rosa piantata in riva alle acque.	17 At his word, the water stops and piles up high, at his voice, the watery reservoirs take shape,
18 Come incenso mandate profumo soave,	18 at his command, whatever he wants is done, no one can stop him, if he intends to save.
19 fate fiori come il giglio, e spandete odore e ricopritevi di amene fronde. E cantate un cantico di lode e benedite il Signore per [tutte] le opere sue.	19 He can see whatever human beings are doing, nothing can be hidden from his eye;
20 Date gloria al suo nome, e lodatelo col suono delle vostre labbra e coi canti delle labbra e con le cetre. E cosi direte celebrandolo:	20 his gaze stretches from eternity to eternity, and nothing can astonish him.
21 « Le opere tutte del Signore son buone molto, [e ogni comando si compie a suo tempo] ».	21 You must not say, 'What is this? Why is that?' for everything has been made for a purpose.
22 Ad una sua parola si stette l'acqua come ammassata, e a un detto della sua bocca [ci furon] come serbatoi d'acqua.	22 As his blessing covers the dry land like a river and soaks it like a flood,
23 Perchè, al suo comando, si compie quanto a lui place, e non c'è impedimento alla salvezza da lui [largita].	23 so retribution is his legacy to the nations, just as he has turned fresh waters to salt.
24 Le opere d'ognl mortale sono davanti a lui, e nulla è nascosto ai suoi occhi.	24 His ways are as smooth for the devout, as they are ful of obstacles for the wicked.
25 Da secolo a secolo egli stende lo sguardo, e nulla c'è di meraviglioso dinanzi a lui.	25 Good things were created from the beginning for good people, as bad ones were for sinners.
26 Non s'ha a dire: «Cos'è questo? a che prò questo?», perchè ogni cosa sarà ricercata [e utile] a suo tempo,	26 The prime needs of human beings for living are water and fire, iron and salt, wheat-flour, milk andhoney, the juice of the grape, oil and clothing.
27 La benedizione di lui inonda quasi un fiume,	27 Al these are good for those who are good, but turn out bad for sinners.
28 [e] come il diluvio Inzuppa l'arida [terra]. Così l'ira di lui s'impossessera delle genti che non l'han cercato,	28 Some winds have been created for punishing, in his fury, he uses them as scourges; on the day ofdoom, they unleash their violence and appease the wrath of their Creator.
29 come cambiò una ben irrigata regione in salato deserto. Le sue vie son diritte [e piane] per i pii: per gli empi, divengono inciampi a cagion dell'ira sua.	29 Fire and hail, famine and death, have al been created for punishing.
30 I beni furon per i buoni fin da principio: così per i malvagi i mali.	30 Wild animals' fangs, scorpions, vipers, the avenging sword for the ruin of the godless:
31 Le necessità prime per la vita dell'uomo sono acqua, fuoco e ferro, sale, latte, pane di farina, miele, il grappolo d'uva, l'olio e il vestito.	31 all of them exult in discharging his orders, ready on earth whenever the need arises and, when theirtime comes, not fal ing short of his word.
32 Tutte queste cose son beni per i pii, e si convertono in mali per gli empi e i peccatori.	32 That is why I was determined from the outset, why I have pondered and why I have written,
33 C'è de' venti creati per il castigo, e nel loro furore aggravano i loro flagelli.	33 'The works of the Lord are all good, when the time is right, he gives whatever is needed.
34 Nel tempo della distribuzione metton fuori la loro forza, e placano lo sdegno di colui che gli ha creati.	34 You must not say, "This is worse than that," for, sooner or later, everything proves its worth.
35 Fuoco, grandine, fame e peste, tutte queste cose son create [anch'esse] per il castigo.	35 So now, sing with al your heart and voice, and bless the name of the Lord!'
36 E così pure le zanne delle belve e gli scorpioni e le vipere e la spada vendicatrice a sterminio degli empi.
37 Ai comandi di lui si rallegrano, e sulla terra stan pronte al bisogno, e a suo tempo non ne trasgrediranno l'ordine.
38 Perciò fin da principio mi confermai [in questa idea], e dopo ponderata riflessione [la] misi in iscritto.
39 Tutte le opere del Signore sono buone, e a ogni bisogno basterà [nno] nel momento opportuno»
40 Non s'ha a dire: « Questa cosa è peggiore di quella »; perchè ogni cosa sarà riconosciuta buona a suo tempo.
41 E ora con tutto il cuore e la bocca inneggiate, e benedite il nome del Signore.
