VULGATANEW JERUSALEM
1 In finem. Psalmus David, canticum Jeremiæ et Ezechielis populo transmigrationis, cum inciperent exire.1 [For the choirmaster Psalm Of David] Listen, God, to my voice as I plead, protect my life from fear ofthe enemy;
2 Te decet hymnus, Deus, in Sion,
et tibi reddetur votum in Jerusalem.
2 hide me from the league of the wicked, from the gang of evil-doers.
3 Exaudi orationem meam ;
ad te omnis caro veniet.
3 They sharpen their tongues like a sword, aim their arrows of poisonous abuse,
4 Verba iniquorum prævaluerunt super nos,
et impietatibus nostris tu propitiaberis.
4 shoot at the innocent from cover, shoot suddenly, with nothing to fear.
5 Beatus quem elegisti et assumpsisti :
inhabitabit in atriis tuis.
Replebimur in bonis domus tuæ ;
sanctum est templum tuum,
5 They support each other in their evil designs, they discuss how to lay their snares. 'Who wil see us?'they say,
6 mirabile in æquitate.
Exaudi nos, Deus, salutaris noster,
spes omnium finium terræ, et in mari longe.
6 'or wil penetrate our secrets?' He wil do that, he who penetrates human nature to its depths, thedepths of the heart.
7 Præparans montes in virtute tua,
accinctus potentia ;
7 God has shot them with his arrow, sudden were their wounds.
8 qui conturbas profundum maris,
sonum fluctuum ejus.
Turbabuntur gentes,
8 He brings them down because of their tongue, and al who see them shake their heads.
9 et timebunt qui habitant terminos a signis tuis ;
exitus matutini et vespere delectabis.
9 Everyone wil be awestruck, proclaim what God has done, and understand why he has done it.
10 Visitasti terram, et inebriasti eam ;
multiplicasti locupletare eam.
Flumen Dei repletum est aquis ; parasti cibum illorum :
quoniam ita est præparatio ejus.
10 The upright wil rejoice in Yahweh, wil take refuge in him, and al the honest wil praise him.
11 Rivos ejus inebria ;
multiplica genimina ejus :
in stillicidiis ejus lætabitur germinans.
12 Benedices coronæ anni benignitatis tuæ,
et campi tui replebuntur ubertate.
13 Pinguescent speciosa deserti,
et exsultatione colles accingentur.
14 Induti sunt arietes ovium,
et valles abundabunt frumento ;
clamabunt, etenim hymnum dicent.
