VULGATANEW JERUSALEM
1 In finem. Intellectus filiis Core.1 [For the choirmaster Psalm Of David] Blessed is anyone who cares for the poor and the weak; in timeof trouble Yahweh rescues him.
2 Quemadmodum desiderat cervus ad fontes aquarum,
ita desiderat anima mea ad te, Deus.
2 Yahweh protects him, gives him life and happiness on earth. Do not abandon him to his enemies'pleasure!
3 Sitivit anima mea ad Deum fortem, vivum ;
quando veniam, et apparebo ante faciem Dei ?
3 Yahweh sustains him on his bed of sickness; you transform altogether the bed where he lies sick.
4 Fuerunt mihi lacrimæ meæ panes die ac nocte,
dum dicitur mihi quotidie : Ubi est Deus tuus ?
4 For my part I said, 'Yahweh, take pity on me! Cure me for I have sinned against you.'
5 Hæc recordatus sum, et effudi in me animam meam,
quoniam transibo in locum tabernaculi admirabilis, usque ad domum Dei,
in voce exsultationis et confessionis, sonus epulantis.
5 My enemies speak to me only of disaster, 'When wil he die and his name disappear?'
6 Quare tristis es, anima mea ?
et quare conturbas me ?
Spera in Deo, quoniam adhuc confitebor illi,
salutare vultus mei,
6 When people come to see me their talk is hol ow, when they get out they spread the news with spite intheir hearts.
7 et Deus meus.
Ad meipsum anima mea conturbata est :
propterea memor ero tui de terra Jordanis et Hermoniim a monte modico.
7 Al who hate me whisper together about me and reckon I deserve the misery I suffer.
8 Abyssus abyssum invocat, in voce cataractarum tuarum ;
omnia excelsa tua, et fluctus tui super me transierunt.
8 'A fatal sickness has a grip on him; now that he is down, he will never get up again.'
9 In die mandavit Dominus misericordiam suam,
et nocte canticum ejus ;
apud me oratio Deo vitæ meæ.
9 Even my trusted friend on whom I relied, who shared my table, takes advantage of me.
10 Dicam Deo : Susceptor meus es ;
quare oblitus es mei ?
et quare contristatus incedo, dum affligit me inimicus ?
10 But you, Yahweh, take pity on me! Put me on my feet and I wil give them their due.
11 Dum confringuntur ossa mea,
exprobraverunt mihi qui tribulant me inimici mei,
dum dicunt mihi per singulos dies : Ubi est Deus tuus ?
11 This wil convince me that you delight in me, if my enemy no longer exults over me.
12 Quare tristis es, anima mea ?
et quare conturbas me ?
Spera in Deo, quoniam adhuc confitebor illi,
salutare vultus mei, et Deus meus.
12 Then you wil keep me unscathed, and set me in your presence for ever.
13 Blessed be Yahweh, the God of Israel, from eternity to eternity. Amen, Amen.
