1 - Chi pratica la misericordia, impresta al suo prossimo e chi gli dà una mano, osserva i comandamenti.	1 He shows mercy who lends to his neighbor, for he keeps the commandments by strengthening him.
2 Presta al tuo prossimo nel tempo del suo bisogno, e a tua volta restituisci al prossimo a tempo dovuto.	2 Lend to your neighbor in his time of need, and receive it again from your neighbor in his time.
3 Mantieni la parola e diportati fedelmente con lui, e in ogni tempo troverai ciò che ti occorre.	3 Keep your word, and act faithfully with him, and then you will find whatever you need in every time.
4 Per molti un imprestito è come roba trovata, e procacciali noie a chi gli ha aiutati.	4 Many have treated a loan like found money, and they offered trouble to those who helped them.
5 Finché ricevono, bacian la mano di chi dà, e in promesse umilian la voce;	5 Until they receive, they kiss the hands of the giver, and they humble their voice in promises.
6 ma al momento di restituire, [ognuno] chiede tempo, e dà parole di rincrescimento e di rammarico, e incolpa i tempi.	6 But at the time of repayment, they will ask for more time, and they will speak annoying and complaining words, and they will make excuses for the time.
7 E s'è in grado di restituire, ricalcitra e rende appena la metà della somma, e [il creditore] può considerar [quel poco] come tanto di trovato.	7 Then, if he is able to repay, he will turn away. He will pay barely one half, and he will consider it as if he had found it.
8 Se poi non è [in grado], lo defrauda del suo danaro, e quegli l'avrà come nemico, gratuitamente.	8 But if not, then he will defraud him of his money, and he will have him as an enemy without cause.
9 E con ingiurie e maledizioni lo ripagherà, e in luogo di onori e benefici gli renderà oltraggio.	9 And he will repay him with accusations and curses, and he will repay him with contempt, instead of with honor and kindness.
10 Molti non danno in prestito non già per malvagità, ma [perchè] temono d'esser defraudati gratuitamente.	10 Many have refused to lend, not because of wickedness, but because they were afraid to be defrauded without cause.
11 Tuttavia verso il tapino sii generoso d'animo, e non lo tirare in lungo nel [fargli] limosina.	11 Yet truly, be more steadfast toward the humble, and you should not delay in acts of mercy toward them.
12 A motivo del comandamento soccorri il povero, e per la sua indigenza non lo rimandare a mani vuote.	12 Assist the poor because of the commandment. And you should not send him away empty because of his dire need.
13 Perdi pure il danaro per il tuo fratello e amico, e non lo nasconder sotto una pietra [perchè s'arrugginisca e vada] In malora.	13 Lose your money to your brother and your friend. For you should not hide it under a stone to be lost.
14 Disponi del tuo tesoro secondo i comandamenti dell'Altissimo, e ti gioverà più che l'oro.	14 Let your treasure be in the precepts of the Most High, and it will benefit you more than gold.
15 Chiudi la limosina nel cuor del povero, ed essa t'impetrerà [la liberazione] da ogni male.	15 Store your alms in the hearts of the poor, and it will obtain help for you against all evil.
16 Meglio d'uno scudo potente e di [robusta] lancia, essa combatterà per te contro il tuo nemico.	16 Better than the shield or the lance of a powerful man,
17 -	17 it will fight for you against your enemy.
18 -	18 A good man offers credit for the sake of his neighbor. But one who abandons him to himself will perish in shame.
19 L'uomo dabbene presta mallevadoria per il suo prossimo; e chi ha perduto il pudore, l'abbandona a se stesso.	19 You should not forget the kindness of your benefactor. For he has offered his life on your behalf.
20 La cortesia del mallevadore non la dimenticare, chè per te ha esposto se stesso;	20 The sinner and the unclean flee from such promises.
21 è il peccatore e l'immondo che fugge il garante.	21 A sinner attributes to himself the goods of his loan. And an ungrateful mind will abandon the one who has freed him.
22 I beni del garante si appropria il peccatore, e l'ingrato di cuore abbandona il suo liberatore.	22 A man offers credit to his neighbor. But when he will have lost respect, he will abandon him.
23 Un uomo si fa garante del suo prossimo, e questi perduto [ogni] pudore, l'abbandona!	23 A wicked promise has destroyed many who had good intentions, and has tossed them like a wave on the ocean.
24 La mallevadoria imprudente rovinò molti benestanti, e li travolse come un'ondata di mare.	24 It has caused powerful men to travel around, and they have wandered amid foreign nations.
25 Uomini facoltosi cacciò lontano [dalle proprie case], e andaron vagando tra genti straniere.	25 A sinner transgressing the commandment of the Lord will fall into a wicked promise. And he who undertakes many things will fall into judgment.
26 Il peccatore che trasgredisce il comandamento del Signore incapperà in mallevadorie disastrose, e chi cerca far molti affari, incapperà in condanne.	26 Help your neighbor to recover according to your ability, but attend to yourself, lest you also fall.
27 Soccorri il prossimo a seconda delle tue forze, e bada a te stesso, che tu non abbia a cadere.	27 The primary need in a man’s life is water and bread, and clothing, and a house to protect modesty.
28 La prima cosa per la vita dell'uomo è l'acqua e il pane e [poi] le vesti e una casa per coprir ciò ch'è vergogna.	28 A pauper’s food under a roof of boards is better than a splendid feast on a sojourn away from home.
29 Meglio il vitto del povero sotto un tetto di tavole, che i sontuosi banchetti in casa d'altri, quando non s'ha la propria.	29 Let yourself be pleased with little instead of much, and you will not hear the reproach of being away from home.
30 Contentati del poco come del molto, e non udrai rinfacciarti d'essere un estraneo.	30 It is a wicked life to go from house to house as a guest. For wherever he is a guest, he will not act confidently, nor open his mouth.
31 Triste cosa l'andar peregrinando di casa in casa e là dove uno è ospite, non osa muoversi liberamente, non apre bocca.	31 He will entertain, and feed, and give drink to the ungrateful, and beyond this, he will listen to bitter words:
32 E' ospite e darà da mangiare e da bere senz'averne un grazie, e udrà per giunta parole amare.	32 “Go, my guest, and set the table, and let others eat from what you have in your hand.”
33 « Entra, il forestiero, e apparecchia la mensa, e se hai qualcosa alla mano, dà da mangiare [a me] e agli altri ».	33 “Depart from the honored face of my friends. For it has become necessary for my house to host my brother instead.”
34 « Vattene, [o forestiero], lontano da questo splendore riservato ai miei amici; ho bisogno della casa, m'è giunto ospite un mio fratello».	34 These things are grievous to a man having understanding: to take advantage of a household, and to reproach a lender.
35 Dure cose son queste per un uomo che ha sentimento: il rimprovero del [padroni di casa e il rimbrotto di chi ha dato in prestito.
