1 In quel giorno si canterà questo canto nella terra di Giuda: «Abbiamo una città forte; mura e bastioni egli ha posto a salvezza.	1 On that day they will sing this song in the land of Judah: "A strong city have we; he sets up walls and ramparts to protect us.
2 Aprite le porte: entri una nazione giusta, che si mantiene fedele.	2 Open up the gates to let in a nation that is just, one that keeps faith.
3 La sua volontà è salda; tu le assicurerai la pace, pace perché in te confida.	3 A nation of firm purpose you keep in peace; in peace, for its trust in you."
4 Confidate nel Signore sempre, perché il Signore è una roccia eterna,	4 Trust in the LORD forever! For the LORD is an eternal Rock.
5 perché egli ha abbattuto coloro che abitavano in alto, ha rovesciato la città eccelsa, l’ha rovesciata fino a terra, l’ha rasa al suolo.	5 He humbles those in high places, and the lofty city he brings down; He tumbles it to the ground, levels it with the dust.
6 I piedi la calpestano: sono i piedi degli oppressi, i passi dei poveri».	6 It is trampled underfoot by the needy, by the footsteps of the poor.
7 Il sentiero del giusto è diritto, il cammino del giusto tu rendi piano.	7 The way of the just is smooth; the path of the just you make level.
8 Sì, sul sentiero dei tuoi giudizi, Signore, noi speriamo in te; al tuo nome e al tuo ricordo si volge tutto il nostro desiderio.	8 Yes, for your way and your judgments, O LORD, we look to you; Your name and your title are the desire of our souls.
9 Di notte anela a te l’anima mia, al mattino dentro di me il mio spirito ti cerca, perché quando eserciti i tuoi giudizi sulla terra, imparano la giustizia gli abitanti del mondo.	9 My soul yearns for you in the night, yes, my spirit within me keeps vigil for you; When your judgment dawns upon the earth, the world's inhabitants learn justice.
10 Si usi pure clemenza al malvagio: non imparerà la giustizia; sulla terra egli distorce le cose diritte e non guarda alla maestà del Signore.	10 The wicked man, spared, does not learn justice; in an upright land he acts perversely, and sees not the majesty of the LORD.
11 Signore, si era alzata la tua mano, ma essi non la videro. Vedranno, arrossendo, il tuo amore geloso per il popolo, e il fuoco preparato per i tuoi nemici li divorerà.	11 O LORD, your hand is uplifted, but they behold it not; Let them be shamed when they see your zeal for your people: let the fire prepared for your enemies consume them.
12 Signore, ci concederai la pace, perché tutte le nostre imprese tu compi per noi.	12 O LORD, you mete out peace to us, for it is you who have accomplished all we have done.
13 Signore, nostro Dio, altri padroni, diversi da te, ci hanno dominato, ma noi te soltanto, il tuo nome invocheremo.	13 O LORD, our God, other lords than you have ruled us; it is from you only that we can call upon your name.
14 I morti non vivranno più, le ombre non risorgeranno; poiché tu li hai puniti e distrutti, hai fatto svanire ogni loro ricordo.	14 Dead they are, they have no life, shades that cannot rise; For you have punished and destroyed them, and wiped out all memory of them.
15 Hai fatto crescere la nazione, Signore, hai fatto crescere la nazione, ti sei glorificato, hai dilatato tutti i confini della terra.	15 You have increased the nation, O LORD, increased the nation to your own glory, and extended far all the borders of the land.
16 Signore, nella tribolazione ti hanno cercato; a te hanno gridato nella prova, che è la tua correzione per loro.	16 O LORD, oppressed by your punishment, we cried out in anguish under your chastising.
17 Come una donna incinta che sta per partorire si contorce e grida nei dolori, così siamo stati noi di fronte a te, Signore.	17 As a woman about to give birth writhes and cries out in her pains, so were we in your presence, O LORD.
18 Abbiamo concepito, abbiamo sentito i dolori quasi dovessimo partorire: era solo vento; non abbiamo portato salvezza alla terra e non sono nati abitanti nel mondo.	18 We conceived and writhed in pain, giving birth to wind; Salvation we have not achieved for the earth, the inhabitants of the world cannot bring it forth.
19 Ma di nuovo vivranno i tuoi morti. I miei cadaveri risorgeranno! Svegliatevi ed esultate voi che giacete nella polvere. Sì, la tua rugiada è rugiada luminosa, la terra darà alla luce le ombre.	19 But your dead shall live, their corpses shall rise; awake and sing, you who lie in the dust. For your dew is a dew of light, and the land of shades gives birth.
20 Va’, popolo mio, entra nelle tue stanze e chiudi la porta dietro di te. Nasconditi per un momento, finché non sia passato lo sdegno.	20 Go, my people, enter your chambers, and close your doors behind you; Hide yourselves for a brief moment, until the wrath is past.
21 Perché ecco, il Signore esce dalla sua dimora per punire le offese fatte a lui dagli abitanti della terra; la terra ributterà fuori il sangue assorbito e più non coprirà i suoi cadaveri.	21 See, the LORD goes forth from his place, to punish the wickedness of the earth's inhabitants; The earth will reveal the blood upon her, and no longer conceal her slain.
