1 Nello stesso tempo Giuda separato da' suoi fratelli andò a posare in casa di un uomo di Odollam, per nome Hiram.	1 It happened at about that time that Judah left his brothers, to go down and settle with a certainAdul amite called Hirah.

18 Giuda disse: Che vuoi tu, che ti sia dato per pegno? Rispose: L'anello, e il braccialetto, e il bastone, che hai in mano. Concepì adunque la donna ad un sol atto:	18 'What pledge shal I give you?' he asked. 'Your seal and cord and the staff you are holding,' shereplied. 23 Disse Giuda: Se lo tenga per sé: almeno non può ella rinfacciarmi bugia: io ho mandato il capretto promessole, e tu non l'hai ritrovata.	23 'Let her keep the things,' Judah said, 'or we shal become a laughing-stock. At least I sent her thiskid, even though you did not find her.'
24 Ma di lì a tre mesi, ecco che venne chi disse a Giuda: Thamar tua nuora ha peccato, e si vede, ch'ella è gravida. Disse Giuda: Conducetela fuori ad esser bruciata.	24 About three months later, Judah was told, 'Your daughter-in-law has played the harlot; furthermore,she is pregnant, as a result of her misconduct.' 'Bring her out,' Judah ordered, 'and let her be burnt alive!'

29 Ma avendo egli ritirata la mano, uscì l'altro, e la donna disse: Per qual motivo si è rotta per causa tua la muraglia? e per tal motivo gli pose nome Phares.	29 Whereupon, he drew back his hand, and out came his brother. Then she said, 'What a breach youhave opened for yourself!' So he was named Perez.
30 Uscì dipoi il suo fratello, che aveva alla mano il filo di scarlatto: e lo nominò Zara.	30 Then his brother came out with the scarlet thread on his hand, so he was named Zerah.
