| 1 E Gesù, seguitando a parlare, disse di nuovo ad essi in parabole: | 1 And again Jesus spoke to them in parables, saying, |
| 2 Il regno dei cieli è simile ad un re il quale fece le nozze a suo figlio. | 2 "The kingdom of heaven may be compared to a king who gave a marriage feast for his son, |
| 3 E mandò i servi a chiamare gli invitati allo nozze, ma questi non volevano venire. | 3 and sent his servants to call those who were invited to the marriage feast; but they would not come. |
| 4 Mandò ancora altri servi, dicendo: Dite agli invitati: ecco il mio pranzo è già apparecchiato, si sono ammazzati i buoi e gli animali ingrassati, e tutto è pronto: venite alle nozze. | 4 Again he sent other servants, saying, 'Tell those who are invited, Behold, I have made ready my dinner, my oxen and my fat calves are killed, and everything is ready; come to the marriage feast.' |
| 5 Ma quelli non se ne curarono, andando chi al campo, chi al negozio. | 5 But they made light of it and went off, one to his farm, another to his business, |
| 6 Altri poi, presi i servitori, li oltraggiarono e li uccisero. | 6 while the rest seized his servants, treated them shamefully, and killed them. |
| 7 Udito l'avvenuto, il re pieno d'ira, mandò le sue milizie a sterminare quegli omicidi e a dar fuoco alle loro città. | 7 The king was angry, and he sent his troops and destroyed those murderers and burned their city. |
| 8 Quindi disse ai suoi servi: Le nozze son pronte, ma gli invitati non ne eran degni. | 8 Then he said to his servants, 'The wedding is ready, but those invited were not worthy. |
| 9 Andate dunque ai crocicchi delle strade e quanti troverete chiamateli alle nozze. | 9 Go therefore to the thoroughfares, and invite to the marriage feast as many as you find.' |
| 10 E usciti per le strade i servi di lui radunarono quanti trovarono, buoni e cattivi, e la sala delle nozze fu piena di convitati. | 10 And those servants went out into the streets and gathered all whom they found, both bad and good; so the wedding hall was filled with guests. |
| 11 Or entrato il re a vederli, vi notò un uomo che non era in abito di nozze. | 11 "But when the king came in to look at the guests, he saw there a man who had no wedding garment; |
| 12 E gli disse: Amico, come sei entrato qua senza la veste da nozze? E colui ammutolì. | 12 and he said to him, 'Friend, how did you get in here without a wedding garment?' And he was speechless. |
| 13 Allora disse il re ai servi: Legatelo mani e piedi, e gettatelo fuori nel buio; ivi sarà pianto e strider di denti. | 13 Then the king said to the attendants, 'Bind him hand and foot, and cast him into the outer darkness; there men will weep and gnash their teeth.' |
| 14 Perchè molti sono i chiamati e pochigli eletti. | 14 For many are called, but few are chosen." |
| 15 Allora i Farisei, ritiratisi, tennero consiglio per vedere come coglierlo in fallo nelle parole. | 15 Then the Pharisees went and took counsel how to entangle him in his talk. |
| 16 È gli mandarono i propri discepoli con gli Erodiani, a dirgli: Maestro, sappiamo che sei veritiero e insegni la via di Dio secondo la verità e non ti curi di nessuno, chè non guardi in faccia alle persone. | 16 And they sent their disciples to him, along with the Herodi-ans, saying, "Teacher, we know that you are true, and teach the way of God truthfully, and care for no man; for you do not regard the position of men. |
| 17 Dicci dunque, che te ne pare? E' lecito o no pagare il tributo a Cesare? | 17 Tell us, then, what you think. Is it lawful to pay taxes to Caesar, or not?" |
| 18 Ma Gesù, conosciuta la loro malizia, disse: Perchè mi tentate, ipocriti? | 18 But Jesus, aware of their malice, said, "Why put me to the test, you hypocrites? |
| 19 Mostratemi la moneta del tributo. Ed essi gli presentarono un denaro. | 19 Show me the money for the tax." And they brought him a coin. |
| 20 Ed egli domandò loro: Di chi è quest'immagine e riscrizione? | 20 And Jesus said to them, "Whose likeness and inscription is this?" |
| 21 Gli risposero: Di Cesare. Allora disse loro: Prendete dunque a Cesare quello che è di Cesare e a Dio quel che è di Dio. | 21 They said, "Caesars." Then he said to them, "Render therefore to Caesar the things that are Caesars, and to God the things that are Gods." |
| 22 E quelli udito ciò, stupirono, e, lasciatolo, andarono via. | 22 When they heard it, they marveled; and they left him and went away. |
| 23 In quello stesso giorno andarono a lui i Sadducei, i quali negano la risurrezione, e, interrogandolo, | 23 The same day Sadducees came to him, who say that there is no resurrection; and they asked him a question, |
| 24 gli dissero: Maestro, Mosè ha detto: Se uno muore senza figli, il suo fratello ne sposi la vedova, e susciti prole al fratello. | 24 saying, "Teacher, Moses said, 'If a man dies, having no children, his brother must marry the widow, and raise up children for his brother.' |
| 25 Or c'erano tra di noi sette fratelli: e il primo, presa moglie, morì, e, non avendo prole, lasciò la moglie al fratello. | 25 Now there were seven brothers among us; the first married, and died, and having no children left his wife to his brother. |
| 26 Lo stesso fece il secondo e il terzo, fino al settimo. | 26 So too the second and third, down to the seventh. |
| 27 Finalmente dopo tutti morì anche la donna. | 27 After them all, the woman died. |
| 28 Alla risurrezione, di qual dei sette sarà ìa moglie, chè tutti l'ebbero? | 28 In the resurrection, therefore, to which of the seven will she be wife? For they all had her." |
| 29 Ma Gesù rispose loro: Voi sbagliate, non sapendo comprendere nè le scritture, nè la potenza di Dio. | 29 But Jesus answered them, "You are wrong, because you know neither the scriptures nor the power of God. |
| 30 Perchè nella risurrezione nè s'ammoglieranno nè si mariteranno; ma saranno come gli angeli di Dio in cielo. | 30 For in the resurrection they neither marry nor are given in marriage, but are like angels in heaven. |
| 31 In quanto poi alla risurrezione dei morti, non avete letto quel che vi fu detto da Dio? | 31 And as for the resurrection of the dead, have you not read what was said to you by God, |
| 32 Io sono il Dio d'Àbramo, il Dio d'Isacco, il Dio di Giacobbe? Non è il Dio dei morti, ma dei vivi. | 32 'I am the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob? He is not God of the dead, but of the living." |
| 33 E le turbe, che ascoltavano, stupivano della sua dottrina. | 33 And when the crowd heard it, they were astonished at his teaching. |
| 34 Ma i Farisei, saputo come aveva chiusa la bocca ai Sadducei, s'unirono insieme: | 34 But when the Pharisees heard that he had silenced the Sadducees, they came together. |
| 35 e lo interrogò uno di loro, dottore in legge, per tentarlo: s | 35 And one of them, a lawyer, asked him a question, to test him. |
| 36 Maestro, qual'è il maggior comandamento della legge ? | 36 "Teacher, which is the great commandment in the law?" |
| 37 E Gesù gii rispose: Amerai il Signore Dio tuo con tutto il tuo cuore, con tutta l'anima tua, con tutta la tua mente. | 37 And he said to him, "You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind. |
| 38 Questo è il massimo e primo comandamento; | 38 This is the great and first commandment. |
| 39 il secondo poi è simile a questo: Amerai il prossimo tuo come te stesso. | 39 And a second is like it, You shall love your neighbor as yourself. |
| 40 Da questi due comandamenti dipende tutta la legge e i profeti. | 40 On these two commandments depend all the law and the prophets." |
| 41 Essendo adunque adunati i Farisei, Gesù li interrogò | 41 Now while the Pharisees were gathered together, Jesus asked them a question, |
| 42 dicendo: Che vi pare del Cristo? Di chi è figlio? Gli rispondono: Di David. | 42 saying, "What do you think of the Christ? Whose son is he?" They said to him, "The son of David." |
| 43 Ed egli a loro: Come dunque David, in spirito, lo chiama Signore dicendo: | 43 He said to them, "How is it then that David, inspired by the Spirit, calls him Lord, saying, |
| 44 Il Signore ha detto al mio Signore: Siedi alla mia destra, sinché io ponga i tuoi nemici a sgabello dei tuoi piedi? | 44 'The Lord said to my Lord, Sit at my right hand, till I put thy enemies under thy feet? |
| 45 Se dunque David lo chiama Signore, com'è suo figlio? | 45 If David thus calls him Lord, how is he his son?" |
| 46 E nessuno poteva replicargli parola: nè vi fu chi ardisse, da quel giorno in poi, d'interrogarlo. | 46 And no one was able to answer him a word, nor from that day did any one dare to ask him any more questions. |
