1 « Chiama pure, se v'è qualcuno che ti possa rispondere, ricorri a qualche santo.	1 Make your appeal then. Wil you find an answer? To which of the holy ones wil you turn?
2 Veramente la rabbia uccide lo stolto e l'invidia fa morire il piccino,	2 Resentment kil s the senseless, and anger brings death to the fool.
3 io vidi lo stolto con sode radici, ma subito maledissi la sua floridezza.	3 I have seen the senseless taking root, when a curse fel suddenly on his house.
4 Non vi sarà salvezza per i suoi figli, saran calpestati alla porta, e non vi sarà chi li difenda.	4 His children are deprived of prop and stay, ruined at the gate, and no one to defend them;
5 L'affamato divorerà la sua messe, l'uomo armato rapirà anche lui, gli assetati ne succhieranno i beni.	5 their harvest goes to feed the hungry, God snatches it from their mouths, and covetous people thirst fortheir possessions.
6 Niente avviene senza causa sulla terra, e il dolore non spunta dal suolo:	6 No, misery does not grow out of the soil, nor sorrow spring from the ground.
7 l'uomo nasce a soffrire come gli uccelli al volo.	7 It is people who breed trouble for themselves as surely as eagles fly to the height.
8 Per questo io pregherei il Signore, a Dio rimetterei la mia causa:	8 If I were you, I should appeal to God and lay my case before him.
9 a lui che fa cose grandi e imperscrutabili e maraviglie senza numero;	9 His works are great, past al reckoning, marvels beyond al counting.
10 che dona la pioggia alla superficie della terra e tutto irriga colle acque;	10 He sends down rain to the earth, pours down water on the fields.
11 che pone in alto gli umili e rinfranca colla prosperità gli afflitti;	11 If his wil is to raise up the downcast, or exalt the afflicted to the heights of prosperity,
12 che sventa le trame dei maligni in modo che non giungano ad eseguirle;	12 he frustrates the plans of the artful so that they cannot succeed in their intrigues.
13 che impiglia gli scaltri nelle loro astuzie e dissipa il consiglio degli empi.	13 He traps the crafty in the snare of their own trickery, throws the plans of the cunning into disarray.
14 In pieno giorno incontreranno le tenebre, e a mezzodì andran tentoni come di notte.	14 In daylight they come up against darkness, and grope their way as if noon were night.
15 Ma Egli salverà il meschino dalla spada della loro bocca, e il povero dalla mano dell'oppressore.	15 He rescues the bankrupt from their jaws, and the needy from the grasp of the mighty.
16 E vi sarà speranza pel misero, e l'iniquità chiuderà la sua bocca.	16 Hope springs afresh for the weak, and wickedness must shut its mouth.
17 Beato l'uomo che è corretto da Dio! Non sdegnare adunque la correzione del Signore,	17 Blessed are those whom God corrects! Do not then scorn the lesson of Shaddai!
18 perchè Egli fa la piaga e la fascia, ferisce e di sua mano risana.	18 For he who wounds is he who soothes the sore, and the hand that hurts is the hand that heals.
19 Ti libererà da sei tribolazioni, e alla settima il male non ti toccherà.	19 Six times he wil deliver you from sorrow, and the seventh time, evil wil not touch you.
20 In tempo di carestia Egli ti salverà a dalla morte, e nella guerra dal filo della spada.	20 In time of famine, he wil save you from death, and in wartime from the stroke of the sword.
21 Sarai riparato a dal flagello della lingua, e non temerai quando venga la sventura.	21 You will be safe from the lash of the tongue, unafraid at the approach of the despoiler.
22 Nella desolazione e nella fame riderai, e non avrai paura i delle bestie della terra.	22 You will laugh at drought and frost, and have no fear of the beasts of the earth.
23 Farai alleanza colle pietre dei campi, e le bestie della terra saran per te pacifiche.	23 You will have a pact with the stones of the field, and live in amity with wild beasts.
24 E vedrai la pace nella tua tenda e, visitando i tuoi beni, non peccherai.	24 You will know that your tent is secure, and your sheepfold unharmed when you inspect it.
25 Vedrai pure a moltiplicata la tua stirpe e la tua a progenie come l'erba del prato.	25 You will see your descendants multiply, your offspring grow like the grass in the fields.
26 Scenderai maturo nel sepolcro, come un monte di grano rimesso nella sua stagione.	26 At a ripe age you wil go to the grave, like a wheatsheaf stacked in due season.
27 Ecco, secondo le nostre esperienze, come e stanno le cose; or tu ripensa a quanto hai ascoltato »	27 Al this we have observed and it is so! Heed it, you wil be the wiser for it!
