1 'Di Davide.' Alef. Non adirarti contro gli empi non invidiare i malfattori.	1 [Of David] Do not get heated about the wicked or envy those who do wrong.
2 Come fieno presto appassiranno, cadranno come erba del prato.	2 Quick as the grass they wither, fading like the green of the fields.
3 Bet. Confida nel Signore e fa' il bene; abita la terra e vivi con fede.	3 Put your trust in Yahweh and do right, make your home in the land and live secure.
4 Cerca la gioia del Signore, esaudirà i desideri del tuo cuore.	4 Make Yahweh your joy and he will give you your heart's desires.
5 Ghimel. Manifesta al Signore la tua via, confida in lui: compirà la sua opera;	5 Commit your destiny to Yahweh, be confident in him, and he wil act,
6 farà brillare come luce la tua giustizia, come il meriggio il tuo diritto.	6 making your uprightness clear as daylight, and the justice of your cause as the noon.
7 Dalet. Sta' in silenzio davanti al Signore e spera in lui; non irritarti per chi ha successo, per l'uomo che trama insidie.	7 Stay quiet before Yahweh, wait longingly for him, do not get heated over someone who is making afortune, succeeding by devious means.
8 He. Desisti dall'ira e deponi lo sdegno, non irritarti: faresti del male,	8 Refrain from anger, leave rage aside, do not get heated -- it can do no good;
9 poiché i malvagi saranno sterminati, ma chi spera nel Signore possederà la terra.	9 for evil-doers will be annihilated, while those who hope in Yahweh shal have the land for their own.
10 Vau. Ancora un poco e l'empio scompare, cerchi il suo posto e più non lo trovi.	10 A little while and the wicked wil be no more, however wel you search for the place, the wicked wilnot be there;
11 I miti invece possederanno la terra e godranno di una grande pace.	11 but the poor wil have the land for their own, to enjoy untroubled peace.
12 Zain. L'empio trama contro il giusto, contro di lui digrigna i denti.	12 The wicked plots against the upright and gnashes his teeth at him,
13 Ma il Signore ride dell'empio, perché vede arrivare il suo giorno.	13 but Yahweh only laughs at his efforts, knowing that his end is in sight.
14 Het. Gli empi sfoderano la spada e tendono l'arco per abbattere il misero e l'indigente, per uccidere chi cammina sulla retta via.	14 Though the wicked draw his sword and bend his bow to slaughter the honest and bring down thepoor and the needy,
15 La loro spada raggiungerà il loro cuore e i loro archi si spezzeranno.	15 his sword will pierce his own heart, and his bow wil be shattered.
16 Tet. Il poco del giusto è cosa migliore dell'abbondanza degli empi;	16 What little the upright possesses outweighs al the wealth of the wicked;
17 perché le braccia degli empi saranno spezzate, ma il Signore è il sostegno dei giusti.	17 for the weapons of the wicked shal be shattered, while Yahweh supports the upright.
18 Iod. Conosce il Signore la vita dei buoni, la loro eredità durerà per sempre.	18 The lives of the just are in Yahweh's care, their birthright wil endure for ever;
19 Non saranno confusi nel tempo della sventura e nei giorni della fame saranno saziati.	19 they wil not be put to shame when bad times come, in time of famine they wil have plenty.
20 Caf. Poiché gli empi periranno, i nemici del Signore appassiranno come lo splendore dei prati, tutti come fumo svaniranno.	20 The wicked, enemies of Yahweh, wil be destroyed, they wil vanish like the green of the pasture, theywil vanish in smoke.
21 Lamed. L'empio prende in prestito e non restituisce, ma il giusto ha compassione e dà in dono.	21 The wicked borrows and wil not repay, but the upright is generous in giving;
22 Chi è benedetto da Dio possederà la terra, ma chi è maledetto sarà sterminato.	22 those he blesses will have the land for their own, and those he curses be annihilated.
23 Mem. Il Signore fa sicuri i passi dell'uomo e segue con amore il suo cammino.	23 Yahweh guides a strong man's steps and keeps them firm; and takes pleasure in him.
24 Se cade, non rimane a terra, perché il Signore lo tiene per mano.	24 When he trips he is not thrown sprawling, since Yahweh supports him by the hand.
25 Nun. Sono stato fanciullo e ora sono vecchio, non ho mai visto il giusto abbandonato né i suoi figli mendicare il pane.	25 Now I am old, but ever since my youth I never saw an upright person abandoned, or the descendantsof the upright forced to beg their bread.
26 Egli ha sempre compassione e dà in prestito, per questo la sua stirpe è benedetta.	26 The upright is always compassionate, always lending, so his descendants reap a blessing.
27 Samech. Sta' lontano dal male e fa' il bene, e avrai sempre una casa.	27 Turn your back on evil and do good, you wil have a home for ever,
28 Perché il Signore ama la giustizia e non abbandona i suoi fedeli; Ain. gli empi saranno distrutti per sempre e la loro stirpe sarà sterminata.	28 for Yahweh loves justice and wil not forsake his faithful. Evil-doers wil perish eternally, thedescendants of the wicked be annihilated,
29 I giusti possederanno la terra e la abiteranno per sempre.	29 but the upright shal have the land for their own, there they shal live for ever.
30 Pe. La bocca del giusto proclama la sapienza, e la sua lingua esprime la giustizia;	30 Wisdom comes from the lips of the upright, and his tongue speaks what is right;
31 la legge del suo Dio è nel suo cuore, i suoi passi non vacilleranno.	31 the law of his God is in his heart, his foot wil never slip.
32 L'empio spia il giusto e cerca di farlo morire.	32 The wicked keeps a close eye on the upright, looking out for a chance to kill him;
33 Il Signore non lo abbandona alla sua mano, nel giudizio non lo lascia condannare.	33 Yahweh will never abandon him to the clutches of the wicked, nor let him be condemned if he is tried.
34 Kof. Spera nel Signore e segui la sua via: ti esalterà e tu possederai la terra e vedrai lo sterminio degli empi.	34 Put your hope in Yahweh, keep to his path, he wil raise you up to make the land your own; you willook on while the wicked are annihilated.
35 Res. Ho visto l'empio trionfante ergersi come cedro rigoglioso;	35 I have seen the wicked exultant, towering like a cedar of Lebanon.
36 sono passato e più non c'era, l'ho cercato e più non si è trovato.	36 When next I passed he was gone, I searched for him and he was nowhere to be found.
37 Sin. Osserva il giusto e vedi l'uomo retto, l'uomo di pace avrà una discendenza.	37 Observe the innocent, consider the honest, for the lover of peace wil not lack children.
38 Ma tutti i peccatori saranno distrutti, la discendenza degli empi sarà sterminata.	38 But the wicked wil al be destroyed together, and their children annihilated.
39 Tau. La salvezza dei giusti viene dal Signore, nel tempo dell'angoscia è loro difesa;	39 The upright have Yahweh for their Saviour, their refuge in times of trouble;
40 il Signore viene in loro aiuto e li scampa, li libera dagli empi e dà loro salvezza, perché in lui si sono rifugiati.	40 Yahweh helps them and rescues them, he wil rescue them from the wicked, and save them becausethey take refuge in him.
